Four CrossCountry Class 221s have just four carriages. The main difference is that the Class 221s were designed to tilt (later disabled on CrossCountry’s Class 221s) and the Class 220s don’t tilt. Because of this the Class 221s have bogies that incorporate tilting whereas the Class 220’s have inside frame bogies, meaning that the two types have different ‘run sounds’.

If u want to tell the differance between the 220 and 221 remember the 220 has 4 coaches and the 221 has 5 coaches
