1:03 I had no idea about Nick Cave being inspired by Waits. But it seems so obvious now. I was just listening to Waits “A Little Rain” and thought Nick could do an amazing cover of this.

This was my very first Tom Waits experience!! I was in middle school when one of my dad's old buddies (who was kind of a nomad), came over to hang out. I was in my room when I heard singing from a guy that sounded drunk. I couldn't stop laughing!
Years later, I own albums from early years like Nighthawks at the Diner, up to Orphans. Love the guy! Can't imagine music without him!
* Forgot to add, I believe the track I heard back in 89 was "I'll take New York". Still my favorite Tom Waits song of all time! 😁

My first Wait experience was my older brother gifting me a dubbed copy of Rain Dogs for my fourteenth birthday. Made my year and possibly damaged my parents' sanity.

@@BestFriendsGang Hahahaha!!! Yeah! I had those moments too where family members asked me to turn the music off. I think every Waits fan has run into moments like that.
My crowning achievement, was being able to play Waits' The Black Rider in a mall store I was assistant manager of. God... How the hell did I get away with that?
One time when the track "Oily Night" came on, this one old woman said, "This music is making me physically ill" before walking out. Lol!

Oh man, I can relate-having managed a coffee shop in my twenties, I'm sure I turned a lot of people off to the music of Fugazi, Gallows, and Hot Snakes by playing them in the most inappropriate setting.
