Thank you! I will eventually write a book to collect all the good stuff in 1 place. Right now it isn't a priority, but yes, there will be a book (or several books) at some point.
I love it Shreyas, very connected with my current situation. would love to get good recommendations of resources for following: - Structured communications (Found pyramid principle, MECE will be helpful here) - Contextual expertise
As always good stuff, Shreyas! Love the part on contextual expertise and nuances on good vs great execution. Look forward to video on other aspects apart from execution you alluded in the video!
Levels of Execution: Basic, Very good, and Great Basics of Execution: project management, process orientation, and structured communication. Structured communication is crucial for clearly conveying project details and expectations. For very good execution, product managers need to cultivate problem-solving skills, contextual expertise, and goal-setting skills. Contextual expertise involves understanding organizational dynamics and how decisions are made within the company (documented vs practice) People's decision making mechanism. Creativity in Execution To reach the great execution level, creativity, foresight, and persuasion become essential. Resilience Across Execution Levels Regardless of the execution level, resilience is a key trait to navigate challenges Execution as a Translation of Steps Effective execution involves translating detailed project plans into coherent actions. This requires thoughtful craftsmanship and rigorous thinking to ensure impactful outcomes.
Product Execution Pyramid OK Level - Project management - Process orientation - Structured communications (multi-modal, all forms) - verbal, written, public speaking, reading, listening Really Good Level - Problem solving skills (critical thinking) - Contextual expertise (broader business understanding) - Goal setting skills Great Level - Creativity (creative problem solving) - Foresight - Persuasion Most Product Managers / Product Owners, especially in emerging markets, are actually just glorified Project Managers, often stuck at the 'OK Level'
Another great video that I personally can relate a lot. Information is so condense that I think I definitely need to watch this severeal times. Thanks Shreyas! Quick comment about structure communication, I've always think that a lot of the time bottom neck of communication is actually cognitive skills. One can not structure their communication if they can not intercept, process information, organize their thinking in a clear and structured way. And I find it hard to define clearly what is communication skill, because it is never the skill of listening and speaking skills alone, it is also the skill of thinking and perceiving(or sometimes described as listening).
I found this helpful. Also, I clicked on the video's thumbnail quickly because I thought it was Lenny's Newsletter content at first. Creative decision if intentional.
Again a great video! It would be even better if the sound was less flat. Is it a compression issue? Considered getting a real microphone? Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
This was from a session I did 3 years ago, when I did not have a real microphone and no real TH-cam channel. I then got a Shure mic which is what is used in some other videos of mine. All of them are still not very high quality because they are recorded in Zoom, from my live conversations with people i.e. I don't sit down to record the videos. So glad you liked the video.
Shreyas, you should write a book! Not sure if that ever crossed you mind, but I’d hurry to buy it! Your content is absolutely top notch! Great video
