Great to see women doing CS. Never be discourag, always encourage!

Super helpful for any student who got into CS at Cal Poly Pomona and confused about making the decision.

Wonderful video! I’m a rising senior and already stressed about college 😅 this was very informative! Would you be able to share your high school stats? I fear that im not qualified for Cal poly :/ it would be awesome if you could have a few of your other CS friends share their stats too so that there’s more data in the pool 😂

Hi Sophia! That's a great idea! I wouldn't be able to film it until September because we are on summer break. Keep an eye out for it then! :)

Hi there, they have a game development concentration for the computer science major: catalog.calpoly.edu/collegesandprograms/collegeofengineering/computersciencesoftwareengineering/bscomputerscience/game-development-concentration/

What are your thoughts on software engineering major?

Hi Luis! I was actually planning on making a video about the difference between the 3 majors: computer science(CS), software engineering(SE) and computer engineering(CPE). The main thing about software engineering is that you take fundamental computer science courses as well as courses that are geared towards working in groups, individual software development and the overall process of software development more. Software engineering has less on theory and the in-depth courses such as compilers. I struggled with deciding between the two majors and personally am drawn towards more product management/managerial roles (in which software engineering would have been a little bit better) BUT computer science gave me a very in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals. Also (as of right now) the introduction classes are pretty much the same for computer science and software engineering so you could wait until your 2nd year at Cal Poly to decide to switch your major if you really wanted to. I hope that helps! :) Ah! And if you want, you can take a look at the flowchart for the software engineering courses and see their descriptions if you are still curious (this is the 2017-2019 catalog but there shouldn't be too many differences from the 2019-2021 catalog). flowcharts.calpoly.edu/downloads/mymap/17-19.52SEBSU.pdf

do you think doing CS at cal poly slo hinders your chances of getting into a good graduate school compared to the UC’s?

Hi! Sorry for getting back to you so late. I am not sure if doing CS at Cal Poly SLO hinders your chances of getting into a good graduate school compared to the UC's.
I do have a few friends that applied to the CS graduate program at Cal Poly while in their final year of undergrad at Cal Poly. I think already being at the school for undergrad helps you funnel into the grad program a bit easier.
Your best bet would be to email graduate advisors at UC schools and ask them what schools their grad students typically come from and other stats.
Hope that helps. Good luck! :)
