Ouch. That thing where Hawke realizes at the end of an episode she (and a bad tram run end point) soft-locked herself twenty minutes ago with two minutes left in the episode....that'll be fun to fi in Part 2. I had a suspicion, but...ouch, the level design shouldn't have allowed that I think.
Ahhh I was wondering if that was a softlock based on what Ross said. Well, either I'll find a way out of it, or just replay that part. It's not so bad. It's this kind of thing that make mods (especially older ones) kind of charming. And I mean hey, at least it didn't eat my save like Black Mesa did a bunch of times lol.
Eh, I don't think it's so bad to allow the player to brute force their own path to their detriment, as long as the game actively discourages the path. It's not like an old school Sierra adventure game that screws you 3 hours down the line without knowing it. You know off the bat it's a bad idea. No clear place to land without massive damage, massive obstacle in way of tram... I think it's fine to allow players to make those sorts of mistakes, it's rewarding to finally come up with the solution on your own. I think it's quite clever the tram has to be backed up to the station, it's something Half-Life never touched on. And with the trademark lack of handholding, lots of levels with intended paths can be brute forced the wrong way. So redoing it, especially on a small as scale as this and knowing the path already is fair I think.
You know, it's crazy, I rarely leave comments because I'm just that type of viewer but I've been watching you for half my life now (pun not intended). It's cool the way you upload kind of rarely, because your videos are always a nice surprise, the way they pop up when I'm not expecting. It's always a strangley nostalgic escape watching your videos, because I've changed so much since I started watching your half life lets play at the age of 12, and I l've been through a lot. I have many fond memories of watching your lets plays throughout different stages of my life, like childhood and xmas, which has offered escapes throughtout othertimes like addiction and depression. I'm not the only one either, i bet there's plenty sielnt viewers just like me.
@@SoldierHawke By the way, Half-Life is playable in widescreen! You'll be kicking yourself, but here's how: In video options, change "normal" to "widescreen". Then before confirming anything else, immediately change the resolution to either 1290 x 720 or 1920 x 1080 (depending how big your monitor is), then hit apply. HUD size will change as well, so choose the most comfortable one. A quirk is that the widescreen Half-Life FOV wasn't patched, so the intended view has to be manually changed. You can open the console with ~ and type "default_fov 105" and hit enter for the intended angle. From there, you're all set!
Congrats on the figure skating! Yeah, starting you off without the HEV suit wasn't one of my brighter ideas. It just confuses people. I also apolgise for all the backtracking you sometimes need to do. But I can't take the blame for you forgetting you have a hand grenade when you were on the ladder over all those headcrabs. That jump isn't supposed to be hard, in fact you're not supposed to need to make it at all. Did you forget that trams can go backwards? We can both agree on cursing the damn ladders though.
Oh don't worry. You're not to blame for like 99% of the things I'm going to screw up, forget and just plain fail at. Ahh. I shouldn't have parked all the way out there. I...wonder if that's a recoverable mistake. I guess we'll find out lol. I am sort of amazed I managed to bumble my way through actually landing on that scaffold!
The corridor transition into the room about 26 minutes in is really nifty geometry.

I don't know for sure it's a softlock, it just seems likely to be with that jump the way it is.@@SoldierHawke
@@rwdavidoff Yeah. I'll poke around a bit to see if there's another solution. There may be. We'll see.

It is amazing how much we've changed over the years, isn't it?
No way. This is literally my favorite Half-Life mod behind They Hunger. I am so ready for this.
So glad! Enjoy the hel out of it!
