- I own a few pairs of Oakleys and after buying a new pair of Radar EVs for cycling, I decided to also buy a couple of pairs of fake Chinese 'Oakley' Jawbreakers for shits and giggles.
This is a review of the fake Jawbreakers and how they compare to a comparable genuine Oakley product.
Let me know in the comments if I've missed off anything else you'd like to know and I'll probably do an update in a couple of weeks time.

Great comparison. I also got myself fake Radar EV Path glasses. The name Oakley was nowhere to be found in the ad. I expected them to only resemble the real deal, so I was surprised by how close the fake is to the original in terms of outer looks.
My mirrored lenses have the same deep blue tint you mentioned and I doubt I will use them.
I got photochromic lenses, but their material is irregular/inhomogeneous enough that putting them on makes me feel as if I had a vision problem. I would say it is not worth paying the extra few $$ for those.
The dark polarized, orange, yellow and clear lenses all seem to do their job fine and for the price I still find them worth the little $$ whole thing costed.

Thx for the review, can u show some details on the fake jawbreakers, for ex the style/sku numbers if they are present on the fake ones and also the Jawbreaker logo on the arms as well. Cheers.
+falcondrgn No SKU numbers are on the arms. The Jawbreaker logo is moulded on the inside of the left arm, but not very well.
One good rule of thumb is that Oakley DOES NOT make a lens that ranges from blue to orange for the Jawbreakers. The ones in this video have blue and orange on the same lens, which is a dead giveaway that they are fake.
Dennis have you tried, fitting original Jawbreaker lens on the fake Jawbreaker you have?

I bought foakleys for $30 frame and 5 lenses. It looked legitimate. Everything was just as in real ones. I went to the store and had them keep the lenses and check them for UV. They were exactly like real lenses. After the inspection I asked them to check the frame and exchange for a different color. After multiple inspections they didn't spot any difference. Apparently I got real oakleys that were stolen by a factory worker.
I would say don't ever use fake lenses. Everything else doesn't matter

+Ian Gardner Thaks for the kind words. One of the physical properties of polycarbonate, is that it blocks UV, so I'm sure you're quite safe.

Additionally a mate went thru a few pair of them as he wasnt getting on with the seperation of the lens process, the nose piece kept snapping on him and now has the Genuine Oakley Radar EV which he seem satisfied with.
Fogging up? I had an old Radar Pitch model and they fogged up a lot.
Oakley sunglasses are comfortable, replacement lenses fit well and save much.
My wife and I have real Oakley radars, purchased from Oakley and they came with a black bag, so the bag doesn't really make a difference with regards to real or fake.
+aaron matthew It does make a difference in this case. Genuine Jawbreakers come with a white bag and these fakes come with a black one. Also, the drawstrings are different and the material isn't as nice, so it will be more abrasive on the lenses. I certainly wouldn't dream of using one of the fake bags on the lenses on my genuine Oakleys.

aaron matthew I really don't see your point here. You said that just because your standard Radars came with a black bag, it can't be used as a differentiator between real and fake Oakleys, which is incorrect. Even if the real Jawbreakers came with a black bag, you'd still be able to easily tell the difference.

You pointed out that the Jawbreakers came with a black bag, pointing out that the Radars came with a white bag. I was pointing out that not all Radars come with white bags. I a friend of mine has real Oakely Jawbreakers and they also came with a black bag.
Thus this means, that the white bag or black bag doesn't really matter.

I'm well aware that I'm not comparing like for like and never claimed otherwise. With regards to Radars coming with black bags, are you referring to the older Radars or the EV versions?
I used to have some radars (lock - copies) and compared them to originals to the extent the shop keeper couldnt tell the difference. Tho the detail is finer on the originals. I sold them on only due to fit, for a longer lens'd set of glasses. Tho would've kept them as they where very good !

You'll also find that most of the fakes are genuine UV 400 too. I have some Racing Jackets and Radarlock, they are excellent! I'll never buy another pair of genuine one's again! They're simply over rated and over priced! I agree for most of the time you do get what you pay for, not in Oakley's case I'm afraid!
I'd actually argue that oakley is one of the only brands where you actually get what you pay for.

+mokotramp Yeah they look similar, but they lens design is different. Oakley put a ton of technology in to their lenses to reduce eye fatigue and improve clarity. Also oakleys double as safety glasses, incase anything gets kicked up at your or shot at your eye you'll be ok, whereas with the fakes, bye bye eyesight when the plastic shatters into your eye.
+Finding_Xeno I take what you're saying, still not worth the money though! Oakley are great talking mumbo jumbo tech crap to baffle people with science! They scratch as easily as any glasses and their frames break as easily too! And remember, they're made in China like most things today! I'll sell you a pair of fakes for 30 quid! +Finding_Xeno While I would agree that Oakley's optical properties of their lenses are fantastic, I don't agree that fake Oakley lenses would shatter when exposed to impacts. They're still made from polycarbonate.

How are Oakley not cracking down on these fake products, I guess it would be the same as cracking a drug plant only for another to open up two days later, like a Hydras head?

Marcus Maher actually counterfeiting provides good advertising for the originals. The genuine ones have superior materials and lenses so you get what you pay + ofc a good sum for their marketing. When it comes to my eyes I wouldn't want to go cheap.
Because oakley is already selling their products on 100% profit. Thats the reason they cant crack down on counterfiet products.

I own a few pairs of replica Ray Bans I bought from DHgate that I had shipped from china for $11. Bought some replica wayfarers and aviators. They are absolutely flawless and look identical to the real. I have no idea if the lenses are the same but as far as I can tell they are the same. The size codes are the same, the logo on the lenses is right on..etc
The only thing a little off is the case they come in. $11 vs $130..Ill pick the replicas every time when the quality seems to be exact same

Nice job on that review and comparison. FWIW I have some fake Oakleys and the arms adjust fine. The lenses seem similar to yours. I've owned genuine Oakleys in the past but find their idiotic marketing invented names mind-numbingly stupid and clearly designed to appeal to people with deep pockets and low IQs. Just how many words ending in xxxium that sound impressive but actually mean nothing can a company cram into a marketing spiel. It's a shame, as the product is good, but not worth the absurd prices asked in my opinion. At the end of the day, sunglasses are made of cheap plastic, and the lenses are polycarbonate. No idiotic terms required, just make good product like Julbo, sell it at reasonable prices, and spare the world yet more marketing BS.

It would certainly be interesting to see how much Oakley's R & D budget is, compared to how much they spend on marketing!

Hi Fe You're welcome. At the end of the day, the lenses are still polycarbonate which blocks the vast majority of harmful UV and the tint takes care of the rest.

Hi everyone I owned some oackley sunglases with the blue iridium lens when this lens worn and start to peel off the blue iridium I opted for a replacement lenses polarized from cofery brand on ebay for $5 bucks. Im really impresed for the optical clarity of this lens. So there is no reason for waste $70dollars on a pair of oem lenses when you can obtain a better product at the fraction of of the real ones...

Depends which vendor you get them from. Usually around $20 - $30 or even less.
Legitimate pairs of Oakley's are from 100$-200$, I buy from Oakley direct. (SI)

I've seen 2 different channels doing these videos, and both forget to discuss the fake oakleys having the reproduction of the rubber on the earpiece failing. The fake "unobtainium" is the weak point, and not discussed.
The real Oakleys certainly brag about the "unobtainium" rubber on contact points. Reviews glazing over, actually omitting altogether, that point is a fucking joke.

Honestly I’ve seen Awsome fakes before. U have to really look at them next to an authentic pair and certain details just are not as sharp. But other than that u wouldn’t know. If u wear them a lot compared to authentic u will notice the lenses and images are better with real Oakleys.
just be advised..there are already 3rd GENS knockoff Jawbreaker ... so what he shows here is 1st and 1st upgraded version..2nd Gen is quite a bit there..3rd Gens handles all the problems he stated except the nose and lense parts;...

i just got the latest version.... it seems quite well made..
the hindge where u guys got the squeeking sound might due to the ear stem ESP on the upgraded version.....pull both out one step ,lock it and try again..the sound might goes off.. reason is the head of the ear stem where fully inserted had some sharp edge where they forgetton to sand off to make it smooth... Hope you will do the new vidz on it real soon...........

Great until you get hit by road debris/crash and you get a shattered lens in the eye...... 😐
The lenses are polycarbonate, the same as real Oakleys. Polycarbonate doesn't shatter. You could argue that they aren't the same 'magic' blend as Oakley's, but they're still polycarbonate.
As for actual road debris, I've been riding for a long time and do around 3000miles a year. The most dangerous thing I've ever had hit my glasses are insects. :)

I have to say this. I have a " real " pair and I just bought a " fake " pair. I can say with almost absolute certainty that their is really no difference! They are basically exactly the same. The only difference I notice is the nose piece is a little looser. Meaning when I change lenses it doesn't snap in as hard but that is no big deal. And the lenses are exactly the same. I didn't believe it until I bought these off dhgate! Don't get scammed do your research!

@@rhys6685 but the thing is your comparing to different style of glasses. You can't compare ev's to jawbreakers or vice versa. You have to compare jawbreakers to jawbreakers which I have and like I said they are exactly the same and same with the lenses.
@@rhys6685 and on top of this dhgate and aliexpress sell 3 dollar ones and 30 dollars ones. If you go with the 30 dollar ones those are the authentic ones not the 3 dollar ones. Plus they are all manufactured in China anyway but the " real " ones are sold in USA, CANADA etc..... lol!

@@94SexyStang Fake lenses? No such thing. They are all the same. Just some are thicker and some are thinner. If your getting a headache that has nothing to do with the lenses but everything to do with your health. I've never had an issue with this or anything from alixpress. Almost everything is made in China.

Bad advice to use fake cycling glasses. If you happen to get in an accident, hit a branch or a rock flies in your face from the tires of a passing car and end up with an eye full of cheap chinese plastic, you won't be so happy that you saved money. If you don't have money to buy oakley, buy something else from another reputable manufacturer that is cheaper but still offers a fair amount of protection. Cycling glasses are not just about looking cool, they are also about the protection.
+ClySuva Oakley make great claims with their 'Plutonite' lenses, but they're only polycarbonate at the end of the day, as are the fake Oakleys. The latter will protect your eyes just fine from anything you'll encounter while riding as they're not going to shatter, although they won't have the same optical clarity.
Talking out of own experience, cheap chinese "safety glasses" shatter as well as the frames break. They are just not designed to be safe and use a lot cheaper and less durable materials throughout the design. If you care about your eyes, don't buy one of those copied products, just get a cheaper brand glasses that are actually designed and tested to be safe on the road.
ClySuva Well, talking out of my own experience and knowledge as an ex-materials engineer (and now a science teacher), these fake frames and lenses will not and do not shatter when exposed to the impacts and stresses to which they'll be exposed to in riding. They are no less safe than 'cheaper brand glasses'.

In a pair of plastic Oakleys, there is probably less than £5 worth of materials in them, with the vast majority of the rest of the cost devoted to marketing and sponsorship. Fair enough, without resorting to analytical chemical techniques, I can't be 100% certain they are made from polycarbonate. But if something looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, flies like a duck and swims like a duck...you can be pretty sure it's not a penguin.
