    Clicked on a random video for seasoning a Dutch over and of course, you pop up!! :) Pajama Mama for the win! Thank you for another incredibly easy video to follow. My MIL got me a set of two Dutch ovens for Christmas (LAST YEAR!!) which I unboxed and reorganized one of my cabinets to fit them in my kitchen but I have been intimated to try "seasoning" it. (I'm such a baby!) Then along comes your video! Boom! Now I just need to buy some grapeseed oil and I'll be in business! Question(s) ...If I don't have grapeseed oil, is there another oil that I can use? ...Once done, does this process need to be repeated? and if so, how often?

    • @coreilove
      @coreilove  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello there, you can use any oil with a high smoking point, Vegetable Oil, Peanut Oil, Avocado Oil... I don't season my Dutch Oven that often, and as you saw I only had to season the rim, on my other brands of enameled cast iron that are more pricey, I don't do the oven seasoning. The more expensive brands ( Le Creuset & Staub ) do not require that step...tfw 😊

    When baking bread do I need to oil the bottom of the pot? Also the directions say not to exceed 400 degrees for the 6.5 QT enameled cast iron pot but the sourdough recipe says to bake at 425…is that ok? Lastly the knob on mine isn’t steel- it looks like a hard plastic type material…should I worry when baking with that? Unsure why the new ones don’t have stainless steel knobs

    • @coreilove
      @coreilove  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't bake bread except biscuits, so I don know the answer to that question. As far as the stainless steel knob, most of my Enameled Cast Iron came with, and for the one that I did purchase without the stainless knob, I purchased one separately. I wouldn't put non stainless knob in the oven on a very high heat, you can purchase a stainless knob for about $20 - $25 dollars through whatever company you bought your Enameled Cast Iron cookware...tfw 😊

    The top oven rim and lid rim is not raw cast iron actually. It’s also enameled with a clear glass coating. In the manufacturing process, the entire pot is first covered with the clear glass coating and then the colored enamel is added afterwards to its respective parts. You can season the inside if you really want to in order to enhance the non-stick surface, but you don’t need to season the rims. I got this information from Le Creuset.

    • @coreilove
      @coreilove  2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Your absolutely correct if this was Le Creuset or Staub Enameled Cast Iron, this is not, this cast iron enameled Dutch Oven is by TRAMONTINA, a less expensive alternative which does require seasoning the rim per the instructions in the box, the TRAMONTINA website, and customer service, I did do my research before making this video. Guess what….it had rust spots all around where there is no enamel coating. I use it ONCE! So disappointed. I had saved to finally get this and returned to Sur la Table. The salesperson told me that this happens and I should have rubbed oil on it. This has been 5 years and I’ve lost confidence in LC.

Using your finger is way too much oil to season just the edges, use a paper towel to just very lightly run on edge and you’ll eliminate those mess.

      Seasoning of raw cast iron I can understand, it is plain Iron open to atmosphere and water , so without oil you cannot prevent rust and oxidization.
      Seasoning, oiling over enamel, which is baked paint over iron can be only to make your cookware shiny and slippery.

      Hello there, I do have Lodge traditional cast iron that I've seasoned but do not have their enameled cast iron, but I do have Staub & Le Creuset enameled cast iron and your absolutely right, I don't season those, but for this particular brand ( TRAMONTINA ) it does need to be seasoned, this comes right from the company and the Use & Care Instructions provided with the cookware. Thank you for pointing this out so people know there is a difference. Most of the higher end brands you don't need to do this... tfw 😊

      I just went on the Staub website and it states: We recommend before using your product for the first time to wash it with warm water and let it dry thoroughly. Brush a little vegetable oil to the inside of the surfaces of your product, heat at a low temperature and after a few minutes remove any excess oil. So…a gentle seasoning? That’s what I get from it. Martha Stewart says no seasoning needed for her enameled cast iron. Seems each brand has their preferences🤔

      There is ZERO reason to season the lip of an enameled pot. The company can say what they want. If you dont want any discoloring of the pot due to not using it regularly, just brush in some oil I guess. But a reason...ZERO to maybe aesthetic if you dont use it much and its a bare metal. Many are already sealed with clear enamel.

      I just purchased a Dutch oven, it came with instructions saying they recommend I season it EXACTLY like this video described. I'm confused now... 🥴

      @@LatinaChapina83 you failed to mention if it has an enamel coating ... enamel should not be sessoned ... pure cast iron needs to be seasoned ... that is according to Lodge and Staub....

    Enamel Dutch oven doesn’t need seasoning.

    I am sorry but I would never season an enameled cast iron skillet with a light interior as the one in the video nor Le Creuset would ever recommend it. The only enameled cast iron skillet that could or should be seasoned is the interior of those pans that have a black enameled coating. Seasoning a light color interior would only in the end cause the oil to burn. Just add oil to the pan when you use it and that's it.

      Well good thing for me this is not a Le Creuset or a Staub Dutch Oven, this is a more affordable brand called Tramontina, this particular brand calls for seasoning exactly how I did in the video, per the Instruction manual, customer care service, and the website. I did not film this video before doing my research and reading the literature that came with the Dutch Oven. I do have Le Creuset and Staub which I do not season...tfw 😊

    I wouldn’t do this with enamel because in the book and doesn’t say to do this. Now the regular not enamel yes but not these!

      I have know idea what book you're referring to, but in my booklet that came with the Dutch Ovens that I purchased from TRAMONTINA, it Does say to do so. The TRAMONTINA website says to do so. The TRAMONTINA customer service says to do so. The Manufacturer says to do so. I do not make blanket statements before I do my research. Now for my Le Creuset and Staub Enameled Cast Iron this process was not necessary...tfw 😊

      Because that's what the manufacturer of the pot said to do, it's the only raw cast iron thats not covered in enamel on the pot...tfw 😊

    Wow, there's 10 minutes of my life, completely wasted. You never seasoned the enamle, you only seasoned the raw rim of the pot.

      Your not supposed to season the enamel, only the raw rim, per the instructions from the Tramontina website and the manual. The enamel is already non stick...tfw 😊
