This song is very special to me.I would sing this song to my dad. Right before he passed I held him and sang this song to him…. I cry every time I hear it.
Reading your comment makes me cry so hard, my father passed away of Covid 10 months ago, we used listen to this song together, I came back to listen to this song to remembering him.
It is a great shame. This is so beautiful. The cut and thrust nature of theatre I suppose. Once she moved to shopping tv I wondered if she dressed it up as a career ambition but actually didn't get musical roles.
the best version, I think. Her voice is beautiful and well controlled. so heartfelt. So glad i found this. saw this on TV many years ago and never forgot it,
@Barbi520 I think you'll find that the best version of Whistle Down the Wind is by Tina Arena, You must listen to Time's version because it is breathtaking.
It's so clear and rare!!! touches me every time I listen to, even 10 times per day)) Thanks for so beautiful voice and nice lips)) Best wishes from Ukraine! !
I'm very happy their are people like you to give back so very much,to the world, whom, listens on many levels to your most lovely music that touches so many hearths around this on wold we all share, please continue being you my be I can see you in concert one day
Thank you so much ‘Sing Your Style Studio’ for posting the passionate, introspective lyrics to this song composed by the commensurate artist, Andrew Lloyd Webber. Lottie Meyer sings it with an angelic voice. 🥰👍
Whistle down the wind Let your voices carry Drown out all the rain Light a patch of darkness Treacherous and scary Howl at the stars Whisper when you're sleeping I'll be there to hold you I'll be there to stop The chills and all the weeping Make it clear and strong So the whole night long Every signal that you send Until the very end I will not abandon you My precious friend So try and stem the tide Then you'll raise a banner Send a flare up in the sky Try to burn a torch And try to build a bonfire Every signal that you send Until the very end, I'm there So whistle down the wind For I have always been right there Howl at the stars Whisper when you're sleeping I'll be there to hold you I'll be there to stop The chills and all the weeping Make it clear and strong So the whole night long Every signal that you send Until the very end I will not abandon you My precious friend So whistle down the wind Let your voices carry Drown out all the rain Light a patch of darkness Treacherous and scary Every signal that you send Until the very end, I'm there So whistle down the wind For I have always been right there
I saw this when it came out and it is the best version of this song. The look on her face at 1:45 is so illuminating and inspiring. It is so on the last word she sang. Andrew Lloyd Webber could tell that too when the song was finished.
SHE HAS A VIBRANT,BEAUTIFUL VOICE. I WAS AT INDIANA UNIVERSITY AROUND ALL THE GREAT VOICES FOR 5 YEARS: ONLY ONE APPROACHED HER WONDERFUL SOUND: SYLVIA MCNAIR,WHO LATER SANG WITH ROBERT SHAW AND WON 2 GRAMMY AWARDS. LOTTIE HAS THE SAME WONDERFUL EXPRESSION. WE WONDER WHERE SHE HAS GONE? SHE PERFECTLY PERFORMED AT THE RIGHT MOMENT. WE CAN NEVER FORGET HER. 30.
Oh wow Lottie i knew you could sing, but that was absolutely beautiful!!! you are so wasted on C&C although i love your presenting too as you have such a passion for everything you see, hugs always Vick xxx
So weird that she went from this to some at-home shopping network. I can't find even one video on youtube of her singing other than Who Are You when she was 15. How is that possible?
It's been years since I've seen the performance or even listen to the recording, but I believe this song was written to be sung by someone playing the part of a young teenager. Tina sings it's more like she is doing a modern performance than a Broadway show, so I think that it probably attract people who are not as attracted to Broadway as more mainstream performances. Just a thought on the difference.
I have listened to Lottie's version since the show aired. And I have only now, in 2022, discovered the vrrsion of Tina Arena. I love them both so much, yet they are almost like 2 different songs.
I gave a thumbs down to this comment, not because Sarah brightman did not do a great job, but because I think Lottie Mayer does a much better job. Regardless, it's still a beautiful song and both women sing it very beautifully!
Someone may have answered this already, but was this song done twice at the 50th birthday party? In the playlist here,Tina Arena sings this, but when I saw this on TV I remember this being sung by Lottie Mayor (whose rendition I enjoy much better).
Every time I hear the name Trump I think of this song! Thanks!

Why oh why did she give up singing and lower herself to the point of utter embarrassment and become a presenter on Create and Craft and Ideal World? What a real pity. Gorgeous voice and gorgeous looking! Come back to singing Lottie!
I cannot get this video to play - so frustrating! It keeps cutting off after a few seconds :( I have seen it before though and I think it is possibly the most beautiful song ALW has ever written. Does anybody know who wrote the lyrics?
Listen up everyone, there's only one star that sang Whistle Down the Wind the best, and that's none other than the brilliant Tina Arena, Lottie's version was just awful.
Sam Lee It's really not. She sings through consonants e.g. every signal that you sennnnnd until the very ennnnd. You're not meant to sing through these words as making an N (or most other consonants) causes your tongue to go to the roof of your mouth and will force you to sing through your nose. In order to properly dictate lyrics you sing through vowels to insure that the air always comes up through the throat and mouth rather than singing through your nose. One way to test this is if you pinch your nose while singing, the sound shouldn't be any different than not pinching your nose, but if you sing the way she is you will discover that it is impossible to hold on to the N while holding your nose. I don't want to argue with you, I'm just passing on what I have learned through studying voice as an instrument.
Beccar Well, ALW likes her anyway and that's good enough for me mm...mmmmm! Oh and btw... You've got a very nice voice too, Beccar! Like the "There's A Fine, Fine Line" cover... not as screechy as some on here.
This song was the VERY BEST part of Sir Lloyd Webber’s birthday celebration!
I agree.
@@lisakwaterski6707me too
@@lisakwaterski6707 I agree !
I love Lottie's version. She makes it so sweet and clear.
I don't understand why you love it, Listen to Tina's version, she sang it a million times better than Lottie.
@@meridian2000 why? Both versions are in the same concert, and I still remember Lottie's version better...
@@meridian2000people are allowed to have different opinions. I also prefer Lottie’s version. 🙄
I remember seeing this special years back on PBS. This was a stand out preformance. What a stunning clear beautiful voice. - a fan in Ottawa
Why isn’t Lottie singing more? She has such an ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL voice!!!
It is a great shame. This is so beautiful. The cut and thrust nature of theatre I suppose. Once she moved to shopping tv I wondered if she dressed it up as a career ambition but actually didn't get musical roles.
@Alaina Ramsey Because Tina Arena want Whistle Down the Wind much better than Lottie.
Yep!
Stunningly elegant, crystal clear, beautiful rendition of one of my favorite broadway numbers.
What a terrific voice she has Allen
the best version, I think. Her voice is beautiful and well controlled. so heartfelt. So glad i found this. saw this on TV many years ago and never forgot it,
Yes! I never forgot it either!
I just saw it...six years from your experience...proving it's truly a timeless performance! Beautiful...
@Barbi520 I think you'll find that the best version of Whistle Down the Wind is by Tina Arena, You must listen to Time's version because it is breathtaking.
I am still mesmerized by Lottie Mayer singing. This most. Beautiful song
Never have to sing another song! This was as perfect as it gets!
Revisiting this clip after the full show on TH-cam.... this is a beautiful, clear, uncomplicated and pure version
this version touched me the most, her voice expressed the song in such a delicate way.
Oh, you are so right. I absolutely loved Lottie Mayors performance.
There are various support groups and therapist who help people who have been touched. Get the help you deserve, you are not alone
Voice of an angel. Perfect!
And that goes to Tina Arena, not Lottie Mayor
The themes in this song are tremendous….and she conveys those themes in a lovely and elegant way.
Total perfection, in every way!
Musical theater and the genius of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber! Please support it at every given opportunity so it never dies.
especially children's musical theater. I run sound and do lights for the local community theater, we try to do at least one children's show a year.
It's so clear and rare!!!
touches me every time I listen to, even 10 times per day)) Thanks for so beautiful voice and nice lips))
Best wishes from Ukraine! !
This clip from the Anniversary show brought me so much joy as a child. I am thrilled and happy to see that others enjoy it as well.
why isn't she in mainstream? voice of an angel
To me, she sings through the stars in the Sky
She gîves the best of light
Still enjoy this song tremendously Lottie sings it the very best
No, Tina Arena sings it the best.
The the ultimate voice for this song - stunning. Would loved to have seen her play this part.
Perfect!

THIS IS MY ALL TIME favorite song have been listening to this constantly for years ,
My grandson and I watch her almost everyday.
Absolutely Exquisite!
such a great live performance! enjoying it every time I watch!
Thank you so much ‘Sing Your Style Studio’ for posting the passionate, introspective lyrics to this song composed by the commensurate artist, Andrew Lloyd Webber. Lottie Meyer sings it with an angelic voice. 🥰👍
Thanks. I never saw the show as I had moved to the US before it was produced. The original movie was one of my favourites as a child though.
Whistle Down the Wind is such an unsung gem...
Gorgeous. Love her voice.
What a voice The best version Thanks Lottie Allen
This is sooooo good. Lifted up my spirit!
MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG LYRICS AND BEAUTIFUL MUSIC. I have never heard anything more about Lottie Mayor.
Wow she was amazing!
This song sung by lottie mayor still touches every par of me
Whistle down the wind
Let your voices carry
Drown out all the rain
Light a patch of darkness
Treacherous and scary
Howl at the stars
Whisper when you're sleeping
I'll be there to hold you
I'll be there to stop
The chills and all the weeping
Make it clear and strong
So the whole night long
Every signal that you send
Until the very end
I will not abandon you
My precious friend
So try and stem the tide
Then you'll raise a banner
Send a flare up in the sky
Try to burn a torch
And try to build a bonfire
Every signal that you send
Until the very end, I'm there
So whistle down the wind
For I have always been right there
Howl at the stars
Whisper when you're sleeping
I'll be there to hold you
I'll be there to stop
The chills and all the weeping
Make it clear and strong
So the whole night long
Every signal that you send
Until the very end
I will not abandon you
My precious friend
So whistle down the wind
Let your voices carry
Drown out all the rain
Light a patch of darkness
Treacherous and scary
Every signal that you send
Until the very end, I'm there
So whistle down the wind
For I have always been right there
Love it! Awesome!
only version of this song I like. Perfect
Rare talent indeed. X
Lovely Lottie, what a beautiful voice, we miss you on create and craft, hope your doing well

Perfection is wonderful to see and hear.
My favorite version of this song.
I heard this song in my classroom
I love her version!
Hell yeah! I remembered this from PBS too...Lottie's voice is inspiring, this entire special was cool. I love Bonnie tylor as well...check it out.
Agreed, a very cool birthday celebration for Andrew Lloyd Weber!
just perfect; wow, to be there live........
Lottie is great, a really down to earth fun person on telly. She looks fabulous in this and sings like an angel.
Oh wow Lottie i knew you could sing, but that was absolutely beautiful!!! you are so wasted on C&C although i love your presenting too as you have such a passion for everything you see, hugs always Vick xxx
Wow - such a perfect performance.
ALW is so in the zone. Almost like he doesn't know where the hell he is. I love it!!
Love this song ♥
My favorite song of all.
No one sing this song better than her
hypnotizing voice. how enchanting! @_@
Lottie is a true talented singer as well as a great tv host, never saw her singing before, when was this recorded.
Thanks your a star, you would never think it our Lottie off Quizmania. JAMES IRELAND
I love both versions. It does not hurt that they are both done by two beautiful women.
she is unspeakably delicious to see and listen to at the same time.
its sooooooooooooooooooo relaxing :D
So weird that she went from this to some at-home shopping network. I can't find even one video on youtube of her singing other than Who Are You when she was 15. How is that possible?
Fabulous 👌
Lottie Mayor, Sarah Brightman and Tina Arena all perform this beautiful song very well.
Tina Arena sounded a little bombastic on the video that I saw, but I am not that familiar with her and her music. This version is perfection.
Whatever happened to Lottie Mayor? She deserves to be a bigger star.
Last time I saw her she was a presenter on a home shopping channel
I like her MUCH MORE than Tina Arena singing this!
+Patricia White So do I
+Patricia White Nah, Tina puts more emotion into it... this sounds a little like a child singing.
It's been years since I've seen the performance or even listen to the recording, but I believe this song was written to be sung by someone playing the part of a young teenager. what happened to this beautiful and talented singer? did i just see her in a shopping channel video?
Anyone have this backing track at all?
Beautiful version. There are plenty of them out there. Have a listen to guitarist B.J.Shoston doing this. It is also very very nice. Cheers
VERY TOUCHING i'VE BEEN TRYING TO BUY THIS SONG BY lOTTIE MAYER CAN'T FIND IT
Lottie now appears as a presenter on Ideal World and Create and Craft shopping channels.
Is there an instrumental of Lottie Mayor's song of Whistle Down the Wind as im only finding the ones of Tina Arena
❤❤❤
singing this for my singing exam tomorrow :L
She is wonderful, comparable to Petula Clark. I truly hope that she records or performs soon.
..at 2:15 Webber looks like Mr Bean
agreed here.....I mean, weak and plain does not equal tender/gentle....
Yeeeeah! stage fright my ass! Speeed Round!
I think I like the quality of Sarah Brightman’s voice singing this piece.
You asked this 11 years ago and got no answer. I am here to ask that question, in 2022.
Yes it was done twice. The piano version was at the very end when ALW got on stage. Kind of an encore.
Hello
Do you know her (Lottie Mayor)? You have the same name
Haim Noy
I have to perform is for something solo 4 this thing but mines a lot higher
Is this from Lloyd Webbers 50th birthday?
This
Did herman goering not have that same haircut?
Haha 😄 🤣 😂 😆
WHAT A STRANGE JUXTAPOSITION??? I THINK YOU MISSED THE TRUE BEAUTY OF THIS SONG. KINDA SAD. 30.
So much better than silly sarah brightman :)
Yeah I know. Tina's is too pop- not the style that works for such a sweet song. Also, Tina Arena looks like Debra from Everybody Loves Raymond.
I cannot get this video to play - so frustrating! It keeps cutting off after a few seconds :(
I have seen it before though and I think it is possibly the most beautiful song ALW has ever written. Does anybody know who wrote the lyrics?
The plot (premise) of the play is just stupid. As is most of the music. This fine song is the gem among the dross.
s i g h .......
Much more understated rendition than Tina Arena's version. Not bad, though.
Shut up
Listen up everyone, there's only one star that sang Whistle Down the Wind the best, and that's none other than the brilliant Tina Arena, Lottie's version was just awful.
Both versions have their own merits. Why do people have to compare them??
she sounds good BUT Tina sounds better.......
the lyrics of this song are a bunch of nothings all rattled off
She has a good voice but over-articulates the words far too much.
Really !... Really !... sounds just fine to me ! ; - )
But then I'm just a man so what would I know. : - (
it's called musical theatre, that's what you're supposed to do with the diction

Well okay :) And thank you very much, I appreciate that.
This is terrible. TAKE IT DOWN.
