How many people here during the quarantine suddenly realising it might be wise how to grow food?! Thank you for your excellent videos. I’m so grateful!
love your vids. very informative. my 4 year old daughter really wanted to do a garden this year. We have to much shade in our backyard, tried 2 years in a row and it never got enough sun, so everything ended up wilting. this year we are doing a bucket garden on the south side of of our house. we only have 10 ft to the property line, but so far we have a 30 gallon tote with carrots. a 5g bucket with green beans and another with cucumber (daughter got some random seeds from a local church). I got 2 more 5g buckets for tomatoe plants. and after watching your video I was inspired to do potatoes. so we got 2 30g buckets and some seed potatoes. We also love asparagus. my wife bought a plant and I'm in the process of building a 3x3x3 raised bed from pallet wood for it.
+Mitchell Villanueva Well done!!! You are not only growing your own food, you are introducing your daughter to gardening! Building memories together that will last the rest of both of your lives 😍😍. Containers were the answer to your shade problems. Excellent use of a small space. You may want to try some vertical gardening with cucumbers. You can get a large yield with a small space. I have a video coming up on that. Give radishes a try as well, you can grow a lot of radishes in 2 square feet! I have a video on that coming up soon as well. There are some shade tolerant plants as well. Keep up the good work Mitchell!! Post some pix on our Facebook page, me and Nancy would love to see your garden👍 Thanks for watching and commenting. Peace to you and your family😇
Hubby was curious about how many pounds you'd get in each one. I'm excited to see :) I'm going to make a little wattled cylinder-shaped raised bed about the size of your containers and try to get the same results!
I LOVE you two!!!! :) Your approach to gardening, your natural speaking, instead of using big fancy words ---- you make gardening a joy-filled adventure -- an adventure I love every growing season! I have garden since I was a kid, but I stll look soooooooo forward to spring and getting back to growing veggies!! I love your videos!! :) Thank you:)
:) As a Chef, truly appreciate FRESH vegetables--- I love growing my own, because that way I KNOW what is in them, and what is not!! I just love you two!!!!
I just found your channel and Im so grateful and blessed! GREAT VIDEOS, GREAT TEACHER!!!! Cant wait to start my own potato planting! When do you recommend to start planting?
+TwoMinuteGarden Awesome!! The anticipation is the hardest part. It is like waiting to open Christmas presents. Thanks so much for watching. Please let me know at the end of the summer how your harvest turns out. Have a blessed day my friend.
I really miss living in FL! I’m in the desert 🌵 I’ve learned a lot from your videos! We have to pump water from our creek to water so we have a different process to conserve water. We are at 6900 ft elevation so we have a very short growing season, so we have green houses to maximize our season. My doggies watch with me & they bark when they hear your dog! Very relaxing! Time together! God’s blessings !!
I love watching you two. I need to watch your first video on how to plant the potatoes from the beginning. I got my potatoes slips and the pots. You are a blessing 🙏🏾
Mr. Hollis and Ms. Nancy I love you guys! Thanks for teaching me how to grow in containers for my very first year. I still grow some in the ground but it is fun listening and watching Mr. Hollis and his enthusiasm. your respect for God is what draws me too! Love Yous! he he!
First video and this one is Excellent! I have one potato plant in a large flower pot. Tomorrow will add more dirt. The other potato plants are growing inside one side of the large compost bin. Looking forward to watching the big harvest, and can't seem to stop watching as it's 1:30 am now. One more part 3 of 3. Thanks to you both!!!
I've watched many videos from other sites and you two are the best by far. Thank you so much Hollis and Nancy for the great videos. Can't wait to start my taters. :)
THE BEST VIDEOS about growing potatoes in containers... Everything you need to know. Thank you for doing this... wasn't sure i should keep adding soil... but i will now!
Thank you, yes I found it. I just started growing in containers! Your channel will be really helpful. Thank you. Oh FYI our Home Depot sell broken bags for 50% off. You might want to check out your stores policy.
I covered mine completly and they have already came back thru again. I thought I might better watch your video again. Glad I did. I will cover 2/3 nextt time. Thanks again!
Thank you, For your time and knowledge You put in to your videos. Me and my wife subscribed and we can't stop watching, Actually we watch them after dinner and before you know it it's 12 A.M. lol. We're addicted and yes we are now growing Container Taters and a earth garden.
+Dave Throop Welcome to the family!! I will admit, there is not much on TV these days, may as well watch some TH-cam😍😍. Best of luck to you with your taters this year👍
Nice video. My husband and I harvested our potato last week. I thought it's a little early but the potato foliage started yellowing and drying up. The yield was relatively good, and I definitely can't complain about the flavor and quality after having our first meal of our home grown potato:-) Yours are off to a good start, wish you the best.
Hey there Hollis & Nancy. Thank You for blessing us lay people with your hard work and expertise! This will be my first time to grow potatoes so I have a few questions. 1. How wide & deep should containers be? 2. When do I plant the potatoes? & When is harvest time? I live in zone 7. Thank You again and continued blessings for a lifetime!!
+Miss B Thanks for watching Miss B!!! We are lay people too just trying to help folks that want to grow their own👍 1) I grow my taters in 20 gallon containers. These are available at LOWES. If you don't have a LOWES near you you can order containers online. I buy my containers from zenhydro.com 2)plant your seed potatoes when the lows are 45 degrees and above and all danger of frost has passed. It will take 85-110 days until harvest Best of luck to you with your taters❤️❤️
Thank you and Nancy for doing God's work in being good stewards of Life. My husband and I are going to grow our garden this year in containers and hay bales this year. Thanks for this series of videos and know that you two are an inspiration to many others. God bless!!!
hollis thanks for all the info. I have already planted the potatoes in the buckets and I did see the leaf's coming out and have followed step by step very excited to see the growth
this year is the first that I've ever tried potatoes. I planted them March 15th because in west texas it never frosts after Easter weekend. I actually didn't have good enough drainage in my buckets and my plants started dying a few weeks ago. I harvested 2 of my buckets today and it wasn't very good. I will try again next year though with better draining buckets and see how it goes. your video was very helpful though. I look forward to learning more from your other videos.
Thank you very much. Looking at retirement at the end of this year and am preparing to enjoy my retirement by urban farming. Hens, container based potatoes, strawberries, etc. Learning from you.
thank you explaining why and how you do things, I am going to do my own. Do not know exactly when - our seasons are different as I live in South Africa
I am trying to plant a few more containers this year after watching your videos. I am also trying my hand at lettuce and spinach in containers as you showed in an earlier video. I want to try potatoes also but am wondering if I am too late this year? We are in Missouri. Thank you. Many blessings, Linda Hardesty
+craftoncue Taters like hot weather so, no it's not too late. I would buy seed potatoes and let them chitt. Then I would plant the whole tater in the container. So glad you like our channel!!! We have an earth garden in addition to the containers. I like having both. Have a blessed day my friend😇
We used your method this year for growing potatoes for the first time and it works very well. We use big black pots and planted them in mid March and just pulled them up today. Colorado breed seed potatoes and do it again in the fall.
Lord bless you all! It is a blessing to know there are people who love the Lord Jesus all over this country still! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Gave me ideas for container gardening since I always ground plant!
Thank You! I live in Toronto Canada. Today I ate potatoes and wondered what kind of work it is for people to harvest potatoes. I have looked at a number of different videos that include everything from gardeners to huge farming machines, and, sizes in between. My question as a city dweller is, what kind of food do the people who grow food crops, have the safest, healthiest, most enjoyable time growing?
Wow,, you two have a Beautiful Hardy Garden,, Im going to try potatoes for the first time.. God Bless you Both and Thank you for sharing your Knowledge...
Interesting. While I have plenty of room to grow in the ground, unfortunately there are far too many ground critters to get any kind of harvest. Thanks for clearing up how much dirt to add throughout the growing process. I had been under the impression the leaves had to be covered as they emerged. Good to know only the stalks need it. Cheers.
gonna do this in a 55 gallon plastic drum. Got any tips for something that big? I was figuring about a foot of soil at the base, then go up about 18 inches from there to cover seeds. seems about the right ratio.I'v seen people put holes in sides as well as bottom. Do you add any fertilizer besides bone meal at the start? love your videos!!
we're following this series too and need to know this: what if it rains, should we protect the tubs from becoming saturated? you mention keeping the plants moist but not soaked...
Thanks for educating me on the growth stages of potatoes. Very interesting and helpful! I do have a question. I planted Yukon golds in containers this year. They have flowered and the flowers fell off several weeks (maybe 4weeks) ago but the plants are still very much green and growing some leaves. What is the time line generally for the plant to begin looking stressed and yellow after the flowers falling? Then is it about 10 days after the yellowing that the harvest occurs?
+Shelley Dixon Your Tater plants are ok. Let them continue as long as the plant leaves are green. They are still in tuber bulking (stage IV). They will turn yellow and begin to look weak. The stems will bend and look terrible but that is good. Give them about two weeks when they look like that. Take a close look at the plants on my Yukon Gold Harvest video to give you an idea of what to look for
Thank you young fella watching you n other vids I gotta bumper crop of veg this year. With my harvested whitetail we are looking good 🇨🇦 73+ Manitoba hunter expat
Great video. I stumbled upon your channel. I’m originally from South America and live in New York City. You give me a lot of hope that I can grown something other than tomatoes in containers. God bless.
Before I watched your video I planted a container of potatoes but I planted them at the top of the pot. I did that in Dec. Now, when should they be ready to harvest. It has been 4 months and no flowers yet. The plants are starting to turn a little yellow. As much advice you can give will be loved. Thank you🌴🌼🌺
I have to say, I have been watching videos on starting up my own food garden almost non stop for 3 days. Your videos are absolutely great. They give somebody like me with no experience confidence to do my own. I do have 1 question that I haven't seen as of yet. In the background in your garden, I see what looks like cd's and pie pans hanging. Is this to keep certain pest away from the garden? I live near woods and I have a lot of squirrels, racoons and even deer that I have to try and prevent from eating all my goods. Any tips on keep all of them out? Also, I have subscribed to your channel out of all the ones I have watched. I am glad to be apart of the family.
Hi! Love your videos! When you are covering 2/3rds each way as the plant emerges (before it reaches the top), are you also covering the new growth and then waiting for the green leaves to emerge? How long does that take approximately? Thanks!
Of all the videos I have seen so far about potato growing , yours are the complete guide . Thanks for the same and may God bless you . I am only confused about which type will be suitable for our climate here in Kashmir , temp usually goes to 32 degree Celsius max .
For someone on an incredibly tight budget, what would you recommend trying to grow first. In an apartment bulding but I do have a bit of an outcropping that I can use.
+The Weekend Medic I would grow some of your favorite salad ingredients in containers on your balcony provided you have full sun. Lettuce, radishes, determinate cherry tomatoes, etc
I really appreciate y’all’s videos. I might have missed it but do you keep water the potato plants. If not, do you ever stop watering them. I’m 70, have limited space and new to gardening. Thanks so much. May God watch over and protect you both.
How many people here during the quarantine suddenly realising it might be wise how to grow food?! Thank you for your excellent videos. I’m so grateful!

I live near woods and I have a lot of squirrels, racoons and even deer that I have to try and prevent from eating all my goods. Any tips on keep all of them out? Also, I have subscribed to your channel out of all the ones I have watched. I am glad to be apart of the family.
Got my taters in (March 9), and am now awaiting the emergence to the Green Point. Thanks for all the tips and insights!
Should be popping up in a few more days👍👍👍👍👍

I water each morning that it doesn't rain.
I’m so doing this!!!!! Sweet potato and Pontiac Red!
For someone on an incredibly tight budget, what would you recommend trying to grow first. In an apartment bulding but I do have a bit of an outcropping that I can use.

I would grow some of your favorite salad ingredients in containers on your balcony provided you have full sun. Lettuce, radishes, determinate cherry tomatoes, etc
you folks are great. thank you and may God bless.
Thank you!!❤️❤️❤️
I really appreciate y’all’s videos. I might have missed it but do you keep water the potato plants. If not, do you ever stop watering them. I’m 70, have limited space and new to gardening. Thanks so much. May God watch over and protect you both.
Stop watering completely during stage 5
