  • If you enjoy watching trains, even small ones, then join me as trusty shunting pal, Rodney, helps me with a small yard project. The Crow's Nest Railroad is a 5" narrow gauge ride-on railway around our small urban home in the Arizona desert.

Rodney and the rail cars are so much more fun than a wheelbarrow. Nice work. Stay safe and COOL !!

Very cool thanks Stan. When this first started I honestly was thinking I’d be good to see more of the yard and spaces, a bit more than just the track and that was great to see.
    Thanks

Hey Scott! I'm thinking of doing a video that shows some 'then and now' footage of the yard as it was before the rr and what it is currently. My small yard is not much to write home about, though. 🤣

@@StanFerris yes please do! That would be great!!
As you drive arround I watch the sides just to see get a feel for the surroundings. Tho a morning was a nice view and to have a bit of history would be great.
      Question
When I saw you put the second stone on the car I was thinking wow springs ok? But quickly thought oh, no springs on these.
Do any commercial rails cars have any suspension systems?

Scott, because the size of my equipment is a bit larger than typical 1:12 scale for 5" gauge, the trucks under the cars are not well exposed. But not only are the trucks 'flexible' in a way that allows them to follow variations in the rails, but the trucks have small coil springs in them for suspension as well. Each car can easily hold the weight of an adult human.

Very nice Stan! I agree with the weather since I live in the Phoenix area. Does your railroad go around your entire property or just the backyard?

Hello! I have a few sections of portable track that connect the two ends across the driveway making a complete loop. I don't leave them up, as folks could trip over them and also the HOA would most likely not approve. Most of the time I just run point-to-point. Our property is quite small, but where there's a will there can often be a way. If you are ever over in the Tempe area, let me know if you have an interest in stopping by for a look.

@@StanFerris okay and I most definitely will let you know. I used to be a member of the Arizona model railroad society at the Adobe mountain railroad park

So you are probably familiar with MLS activities and what's going on with the 15" gauge equipment up at the museum. I have my 7.5" gauge train up there, and have been doing some work on the 15" gauge.

@@StanFerris very familiar with it. One of the MLS members works at one of my schools in the Peoria School district can't seem to remember his name but he drives a white 2 door Chev Silverado truck with a ladder rack you might know him. He's been trying to get me over to the park for a while but due to personal life and work I haven't been able to.
