For a classic car, which this basically is, the best solution is a simple Bluetooth head unit with hands free, then just your phone in a good bracket. I've learned this after lots of experiments.
I know this is the sensible thing to do, and it's what I did with my Lotus Elan because I didn't want to ruin the classic feel of the cabin, but in L322 is designed around a double-DIN touchscreen unit (albeit one with a fraction of the features of a modern unit) which is why I persevered with this. Anything else looks pants. At the time, it was an utter ballache to install, but it was so worth the pain longer term.
Cheers - didn't have much choice re the cable route. It wasn't long enough (which is crazy because while RR's are tall they're not actually that long. Love the E39, especially one with the same M62 engine!
I had to take out the dash display as could not read anything as the pixels had gone but I had to take off the side vents, the centre speaker and then the leather top dash panel, I noted at the time access to the radio unit from the top. Mine has the original system but is not playing when driving and the screen goes funny, it is really annoying. Wow the rear compartment is really empty!!
I had to do the same to replace a bulb. Replaced them all while I was at it because I didn't fancy the palaver all over again. Replacing the old stereo makes a big difference (and there are ways around the functionality you use which I'll share in a later video).
Thats me caught up with the l322 series so far and looking forward to the rest to come, great work so far 👌🏼
Thank you, mate. There's a bit to get through yet (I've owned it now for a year) so no shortage of waffle to come!
Great to have you back Conor. Enjoyed the Lotus and Fiesta series previously and some great progress made on the RR already.
Cheers, James. More to come, plus the hindsight of a year's ownership.

Did something like this on a BMW e39. Hours and hours of head scratching but the result was worth it in the end. Like the reverse camera cable route!

Nope, hats off to you as usual. I’m good with mechanical work but this stuff, electrics, it’s witchcraft.
I usually don't mind car electrics but I had to work for this one. I think it took three months in total to get it where I wanted it.
