- This series features a complete beginner's guide to Subnautica in 2023, with the Living Large update live on a PS5. Subnautica is a fantastic survival adventure and I have played through the entire game on the channel with a Let's Play, but was so curious to see the new tweaks to the game with the update that I decided to create a guide for players completely new to Subnautica, or those just starting out.
In this guide, I will start a brand new game and walk you through the basics of the controls, the UI, and tips and tricks to help you survive in the beginning of the game. This is a completely non-spoiler guide, meant only to help you learn the fundamentals so you can explore and enjoy the surprises the game offers on your own--which is the real magic of Subnautica, in my opinion.

Only just decided to buy this game in Sept 24 so very late getting started, found your beginners guide and what a great guide it is taking you step by step unlike some so called beginners guides which over saturate your brain in 10mins!

All the other beginner guides I could find just rapid fire a bunch of tips at you while jump cutting from footage of different playthroughs.
Twenty minutes into this video and you're still explaining stuff inside the pod. This is the nice slow introduction I needed.

If the thirst and hunger depleting while you are crafting is too stressful, you can toggle on something like "Pause in menu".
The open ocean is terrifying, but the predators in this game at least aren't too aggressive

Despite me having played this game for several years and having completed it many times over, I still loved watching the video. I have seen some comments say that it is too slow, and despite it feeling like that from time to time, it is only because, like I said, I have already seen all this game has to offer. This is perfect for a completely new player, and I wish I had this on my first time playing. Basically, great video!

OMG thankyou so much for this tutorial. I bought the 2 subnautica games on special in Steam but was struggling to make a start. This is the guide I needed, the clueless newbs guide and done beautifully at such a relaxed pace including all the info I needed such as which buttons to press. LOL you are my saviour!

If you're having trouble getting them by charging and mashing X at the very beginning, peepers run out of energy after a short chase! Keep close enough that they maintain speed trying to escape your clutches, but not so close that you lose them, and they'll completely stop after two or three turns, in exhaustion. Plenty of time to line up the button to get yourself food so you'll live to practice the zoom approach another day.
Also, is the amount of information in the video a lot? Yup, in the best way! Thank you for making it, it's impressive how fully you explained the essentials of the game without spoiling anything. Plus you have a voice that is both engaging and relaxing, a rare find

Great beginning guide. Just what I was looking for. Every other video just gives general tips with minor explanations. They don’t actually breakdown the mechanics of the game so I can learn what things do and how to do them

Dude is explaining things slower than it would take you to figure it out yourself 😂 as a guide I would rate it at 3/10. However as a narrative playthrough 9/10. That is the pace you want to give yourself when playing this game. Great video. I would probably do one or the other. Explaining you press this and press that on your pad etc. kind of takes it away from the experience a little bit.

I just found out that i'm afraid of going water at night, dude i was terrified when i jumped to the water at night, holy jesus..
I am not a fan of night swimming... especially if there are other living beings of considerable size in the water... haha

Yes! Thirst is one of the biggest killers when you first start because it's a little harder to figure out how to get water ;) I hope you are having fun with the game! ;D

I'd be down give hardcore a go, but on my last play through I was teleported out of my prawn by a warper and literally got 1 shot, now my prawns stuck down there
Ufff--I had this happen too! I got ported out of my prawn in a VERY deep very HOT location by a very BIG fish and it took forever to get it back haha. Needless to say I died quickly.
Im not sure if its just me but why is he talking like its gonna be my first game ever? Has anyone not seen a reticle before? 44 minutes for a subnautica guide is wild asl.
I tend to be very thorough in my guides and explain everything, so they are quite long haha

@@DrIncompetent My ultimate Subnautica fishing-for-food tips: 1) fish at night, they swim slower & are easier to see because of the bio luminescence; 2) once you have the propulsion canon use that to fish (right-click to pull them in, left-click to grab them into your inventory); 3) once you have built an alien containment tank put two or more of whatever fish you want to farm into the tank, they'll breed & make more, then just pop into the tank & grab a few for food, no more fishing! Just be sure to leave at least two of the fish so they'll make more; 4) best fish for food: Peepers to start, then Reginalds when you get the fish tank.

Is there a way change the game mode after you start a game?
this constant, menu diving (more than actual water diving) is f'ing annoying.
I am not sure about this! But you can certainly set it so the game pauses in the menu screen so you don't use oxygen and water etc.

I only watched this to figure out how to get clean water lol didn't realize you could cook the fish to remove the -H2o though, but cmon, I was hammering the fast forward for 3/4 of your video and I'm not even 30 minutes into the game. Great question! It definitely is playable with Keyboard and Mouse, as it has a dedicated PC version, but I always use controller for it so I am going to ask if anyone else reading this has played it with Keyboard and mouse and can comment on how the experience is with that control setup. Thank you!

You got a good voice, too bad the mic quality is horrendous. I don't know if this has something to do with you playing on a console, but it's unwatchable. The visual quality of the video is also very low and compressed. It might be time to get a good PC, because you've got potential.

I love Subnautica but my CPU (AMD Ryzen 5600) gets very hot despite massive air cooler. Still playable but runs at 90*

Thanks for your comment. Actually, in addition to being on PC, Subnautica is available on all consoles: XBox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. I am playing on a PlayStation, so I am using a controller to play the game. I do not own a mouse and keyboard for my PlayStation, nor would I use it if I did.
@@DrIncompetent There's no reason to use a controller or Playstation. Simply sell it. This can be played on a basic PC with KBM.
