Peaceful protests in public places where they are not causing any harm to anyone is okay. Disruptive protests of any kind is not okay and the laws should be changed so regular people are allowed to remove protesters from roads, entrances to buildings etc. And for the people that does not respect the laws and organize or participate in such illegal protests time after time. Give them a 1000£ fine and double it each time they repeat the same or a similar crime. Crime should have a reasonable punishment and then the problem would be solved by itself. Great work by the police in the video! But the punishment for repeated crime is obviously lacking when people can do the same crime many times a weak....
What’s the punishment after being arrested? That guy got arrested 31 times and he’s still turning up to cause more disruption!! He’s laughing!! Why aren’t they tossed in jail for increasing amounts of time?? How about this: 1st arrest: 1 day in prison 2nd arrest: 1 week 3rd arrest: 1 month Each subsequent arrest add one more month. For example, 4th arrest: 2 months in prison. 5th arrest: 3 months in prison. And so on. There will be few employers willing to wait on an arrested employee after a month. If these eco-terrorists keep getting arrested they’ll also have to lose their jobs.

Second arrest, one full week in jail. third arrest, one full month in jail, fourth arrest one year in jail, all of these to be served in cells with NO Oil based electric lighting, climate control, clothing, electronics, etc. If these people think they can live without oil, might as well start now! Let them prove their devotion to an oil free life!
That bloke that has been arrested 31 times needs to stop and think. You don't get points to spend in a shop, he will come up as an habitual offender and should be dealt with like that. You can protest all you like, but others have rights as well.
I still find it pathetic. They get released the same day. The guy said he was arrested 4 times this week. What's the point. Keep them locked up for a few weeks and increase it everytime they do it again. and I garantee they'll soon stop.

has nothing to do with the right of protesting , their actions effect the safety of those using the roads, this is why they got arrested and not for protesting, but for impeding traffic flow , thus endangering road users lives as well as their own , thus they also get arrested for duty of care issues, , a tail back is proven to cause secondary bump and shoves or worst at the rear of the tail back , and if these laws were not adopted ,protest would of grown in intensity of size of conflict resulting in deaths, imagine , 50+ protesters getting charged for contributing too that persons death .and yes there were only 4/5 here, other events were to the point of en-sighting a riot thus these laws prevent that illegal act ,,,
these people are obviously getting paid. You don't get arrested 31 times and have a normal job. It's also really interesting just how normal the police are there, and the sheer number of them.
Since green energy is not going to even come close to supplying all the UK's power for a long time yet, oil is going to be required for a long time. The protests are only about stopping the UK producing oil (be interesting to see them fly out to Saudi and try sitting in the middle of the road!) so the countries requirement would have to be imported instead, none of them seem to be able to explain why oil imported from abroad is so much better than oil produced in the UK.
yes, let's drive to the protest site using a car that uses oil directly or indirectly while wearing clothes made with oil, so that we can hold signs written with oil about how using gas/oil is bad for the environment. and once we're done, we go back to our AC home which uses gas. makes perfect sense.
It's about time. 1st offense should be a fine. 2nd offense 5x the fine. 3rd offense 3 months in jail plus the fine. 4th offense 6 months behind bars with 3 additional months added for each subsequent arrest. Gotta nip these losers and their stupidity in the bud.
5:11 yes, you were arrested on a green person, but you sat down on the road. I would be absolutely fine with anyone who thinks they should sat down on a road crossing tobe taken in for a psychological assessment because I‘m worried about that person. It‘s not a normal behaviour.
As long as you're not threatening people or physically stopping people from being able to avoid/ignore you, there shouldn't really be an issue with protesting.
So since physically stopping people in the road and not allowing them to move on or ignore them as JSO does there should be an issue then?. Glad you agree with the new laws to remove protestors breaking the law.
The police have always had the power to request anyone stationary on the public highway, including the pavement, to move on or risk arrest but this man appears to have been moving until the police stopped him. This reminds me of the miners' strike when the police stopped vehicles with a northern number plate getting to the colliery in Kent; at that time, I wondered if we had become the USSR where people needed a visa to travel within the country.
Section 137 of the highways act states it is an offence to willfully obstruct the highway. The draconian measures have been put in place because idiots attenpt to obfuscate the right to protest legally with acts of civil disobedience. How can you compare the act of arresting someone for breaking the law with USSR tactics?
Under s24 PACE an officer may make an arrest if they suspect a person to be "involved" with an offence. The term "involvement" legally covers anyone "who is about to commit an offence or is in the act of committing an offence", amongst other things. The protestors intention was clear. The officer reasonably believed the protestors were about to become involved in/commit a public order/highways offence. A warning was issued and an arrest made. The arrest was necessary to 1) prevent the unlawful obstruction of a highway and 2) effect a prompt and effective investigation. Wilfully obstructing a highway is an older offence, and would seemingly have to be balanced against the right to protest in some cases. The new public order laws make it clear that highways are specifically entirely off limits for protests and enable the police to take swift and effective action without the 5 steps previously required to prove the obstruction was "wilful". Not saying I agree with the new laws necessarily as they slowly erode our ability to be democratic and protest, but the disruption to the public was becoming insane so they've ruined it for us all. If it had been a few one-off protests, the government wouldn't have felt the need to amend the laws so drastically.
I can agree with your point until your right to protest impinges on my right to move freely in a public place. In the end protestors have a cause that they are promoting & for that cause to gain public support they need to keep the public on their side & not alienated from it.
@@normanlazarus1836That's not the point of a protest. You being slightly inconvenienced while out and about shouldn't mean we have these Draconian measures.
I've said this before - give the police the necessary powers to deal with these incidents and they will do the job. The next problem is the courts - they could remand in custody on the basis that they are likely to commit further offences .... but they don't. They admit them to bail and, not unexpectedly, they commit further offences. The ball is now in the court's jurisdiction.
"Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well, certainly, there are those who are more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable. But again, truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. They were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic, you turned to those who promised you order, who promised you peace, and all they demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent."
I hate that our liberties are being curtailed, BUT, the ability to totally disrupt peoples normal lives is being completely disrupted by these idiot protestors. For once, I agree that curtailing the peoples liberty to disrupt the ordinary public NEEDED to be done. I fully support this law.
In a modern democracy, a minority which has not managed to get majority support has the right to speak and lawfully protest in order to try to persuade others to their cause - that's a part of our broader concept of democracy. They do not have the right to try to impose their will on the majority through coercive tactics, even non-violently. (Blocking a roadway and not allowing traffic through is coercive, not persuasive). The alternative is chaos, with every minority trying to coerce the society in support of their cause.
Pretty brave to perform these criminal acts in a western country, protected by western laws. Let's see 'Stop Oil' activists try this in the heart of Oil, the middle east. What do you think the results would be if they did this in a museum in Islamabad?
I wonder if these SO activist have considered what their future may be. If charged I assume when found guilty they will then have a Criminal Record therefore the likelihood in the future of landing a job or emigrating abroad is highly doubtful.
I reckon most of them don't have jobs or they'd be there instead of in the road. They're most likely mostly layabouts living on social welfare or conversely old family money. They're certainly not productive members of society.
You can protest but you need to do it on the sidewalk and not disruption traffic. One day the fines will increase , then the next step is longer jail time and you maybe gather your own food , water , shelter from the weather.
And what fossil fuel lobby is going to bribe- sorry, I mean "fund" their campaign? The oil and gas industries have their fingers in the pies of Parliament, and the police are just Parliament's paid force of thugs. Through the police and army, Parliament has the monopoly on violence and the threat of violence.
I dislike the British police like the next guy but, I would like to thank them for keeping the public order from the clearly not delusional just stop oil protesters.
No matter how badly the police are treated by a government, in particular a tory government, they will do their bidding in the harshest way and enjoy doing it.
Awesome. This is the way. If only this new power is used against all protesters like Palistinians and other hate groups. Legal public protesters and demonstrations need to do so lawfully. They need a permit and they need to stay off roadways. Likewise, police need to NOT shut down lawful and peaceful demonstrations, which they continue to do.
They should have used different tactics then. They literally have made many people change sides in the issue because they are harming normal people. They should be protesting parliament, not messing with other people. Wonder why they don't....
@@adamgrimsley2900 no I'm not saying that, JFK said that. That's why it says JFK under the quote. History has time & again demonstrated that this happens. When peaceful options are denied to an organisation/people they are forced into illegal/violent action.

This is a form of terrorism. btw. What material are orange vests & banners made of? Does oil need to be produced?
Useless people that need to get jobs. Need to go to school and become engineers and figure out new energy sources to take the place of oil. The ones they have now are more destructive than oil.
How about this:
1st arrest: 1 day in prison
2nd arrest: 1 week
3rd arrest: 1 month
Each subsequent arrest add one more month. For example,
4th arrest: 2 months in prison.
5th arrest: 3 months in prison.
And so on.
There will be few employers willing to wait on an arrested employee after a month. If these eco-terrorists keep getting arrested they’ll also have to lose their jobs.
This is great. They blocked ambulances, fire engines, and police.
All those actions are indeed violent as they all lead to potentially immediate and unncessary loss of life.
1st arrest, NO BAIL, one full day in Jail.
These idiots should be locked up without electricity for a week at least.
I still find it pathetic. They get released the same day. The guy said he was arrested 4 times this week. What's the point. Keep them locked up for a few weeks and increase it everytime they do it again. and I garantee they'll soon stop.
Exactly....
These thugs should be treated with more rough handling. Put in jail if second arrest for a month.
Noticeable that they aren't out protesting in the freezing weather in the UK. No doubt they are all home in the warmth, brought to them one way or another by oil and other fossil fuels. I wonder if the Getty woman and her relatives pay them for time off due to weather? Holiday pay, probably, or at least a retainer.
has nothing to do with the right of protesting , their actions effect the safety of those using the roads, this is why they got arrested and not for protesting, but for impeding traffic flow , thus endangering road users lives as well as their own , thus they also get arrested for duty of care issues, , a tail back is proven to cause secondary bump and shoves or worst at the rear of the tail back , and if these laws were not adopted ,protest would of grown in intensity of size of conflict resulting in deaths, imagine , 50+ protesters getting charged for contributing too that persons death .and yes there were only 4/5 here, other events were to the point of en-sighting a riot thus these laws prevent that illegal act ,,,
I didn't complain about JSO protesters being arrested as I was not one of them...
these people are obviously getting paid. You don't get arrested 31 times and have a normal job. It's also really interesting just how normal the police are there, and the sheer number of them.
Why is nobody pointing out that fishy sunak put through all those new licences! Whilst back peddling on green energy. I know which side im on here
He has done the correct thing here. Stick your green energy.
Give them $10,000 fine and 1 year jail and see how quickly they disappear.
1 year for 1st offense, 5 for 2nd... 10 for 3rd.
they can protest as long as they DO NOT DISRUPT OR DAMAGE PROPERTY .
yes, let's drive to the protest site using a car that uses oil directly or indirectly while wearing clothes made with oil, so that we can hold signs written with oil about how using gas/oil is bad for the environment. and once we're done, we go back to our AC home which uses gas. makes perfect sense.
It's about time. 1st offense should be a fine. 2nd offense 5x the fine. 3rd offense 3 months in jail plus the fine. 4th offense 6 months behind bars with 3 additional months added for each subsequent arrest. Gotta nip these losers and their stupidity in the bud.
WHO is paying them? And supplying the identical signs, vests, even backpacks?
5:11 yes, you were arrested on a green person, but you sat down on the road. I would be absolutely fine with anyone who thinks they should sat down on a road crossing tobe taken in for a psychological assessment because I‘m worried about that person. It‘s not a normal behaviour.
Great to here the British police are taking action, I hope the protesters get criminal records.
If he's been arrested 4 times in a week why isn't he in prison? 1 year prison
Any law is welcome. How would they like their lively hood s and their personal lives disrupted
As long as you're not threatening people or physically stopping people from being able to avoid/ignore you, there shouldn't really be an issue with protesting.
Which is not the case with JSO. Just in case you thought that comment is supportive.
So since physically stopping people in the road and not allowing them to move on or ignore them as JSO does there should be an issue then?. Glad you agree with the new laws to remove protestors breaking the law.
Here's the answer for them: send them to a country that doesn't use gas or oil!
The police have always had the power to request anyone stationary on the public highway, including the pavement, to move on or risk arrest but this man appears to have been moving until the police stopped him. This reminds me of the miners' strike when the police stopped vehicles with a northern number plate getting to the colliery in Kent; at that time, I wondered if we had become the USSR where people needed a visa to travel within the country.
there was never a visa inside USSR.
If stupidity would hurt, the hospitals would be full to the brim.
A right to protest?
Not anymore..
Rights for people to go about their business?
Over there, not here... 😅
@@alwoo5645 You can't go on about your business when the food chain collapses.
@@---Tre--- the food chain has not collapsed .
They can protest but they can't break the law while protesting. Why is that weird?
As much as I despise the stop oil protests and their tactics it is a bit disturbing for our rights to protest.
If I was a conspiracist I would say JSO are government backed.
Well noted
I can agree with your point until your right to protest impinges on my right to move freely in a public place.
In the end protestors have a cause that they are promoting & for that cause to gain public support they need to keep the public on their side & not alienated from it.
I think there's a difference between protest and disruption
@@normanlazarus1836That's not the point of a protest. You being slightly inconvenienced while out and about shouldn't mean we have these Draconian measures.
Just make it part of their bail to not be rearrested.
Arrested again? Held until trial.
You can protest in jail.
well done the Police
I can't wait until the food chain collapses.
V for Vendetta amazing movie 👍 starting to be reality in today's England
yeah its like the x files
I hate that our liberties are being curtailed, BUT, the ability to totally disrupt peoples normal lives is being completely disrupted by these idiot protestors.
For once, I agree that curtailing the peoples liberty to disrupt the ordinary public NEEDED to be done.
I fully support this law.
This isn't about Just Stop Oil, it's about civil rights.
what about the rights of people getting work and taking children to school
@@boscinet mind numbing response...

JSO wanted a response. So they got one. Don't blame anyone else. Blame the culprits.
@@supertouring22 I'm sure your mind is easily numbed... 😂
You can protest LAWFULLY with no issues at all.
It'll soon be like a Margaret Attwood novel in this country.
More likely to be speakoing in Russian and following an ISIS manual actually.
@@simontemplar404 that's not far off what she wrote.
The just stop oil is not protesting it's blatant law breaking.
Love that, immediately.
Fascism 101
Stay out of the road. Use the foot paths. So easy....
You can protest but you need to do it on the sidewalk and not disruption traffic. One day the fines will increase , then the next step is longer jail time and you maybe gather your own food , water , shelter from the weather.
They have the right to campaign, get elected and change the law just like the rest of us.
And also like the rest of us, if you obstruct people from moving around a free space you will be arrested.
Protesting should always be allowed but not when it causes disruption to other people doing about their day
I dislike the British police like the next guy but, I would like to thank them for keeping the public order from the clearly not delusional just stop oil protesters.
I will trade you police forces. I get the British police and you get the American police.
Follow German method of restraining them,
No matter how badly the police are treated by a government, in particular a tory government, they will do their bidding in the harshest way and enjoy doing it.
Authoritarians become one of two things coppers/security guards or landlords /torys
Technically that's four things. But I think you get my drift.
put these idiots in jail for a minimum of 10 years
1 person, 31 arrests... Just leave 'em in jail next time.
I think in 20 or 50 years, people will look at Just Stop Oil protesters very differently..
Yep! On a hill top in a fire suit due to flooding & scorching heat

Totally...there's so much ignorance it's unbelievable
They should have used different tactics then. They literally have made many people change sides in the issue because they are harming normal people. They should be protesting parliament, not messing with other people. Wonder why they don't....
@gomahklawm4446 target their protest, how then?
Apparently arrest isn't working. Now implement a fine that increases with each subsequent arrest.
Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.
