म्यूनिख, 1972. ओलंपिक खेलों की शुरुआत हो चुकी थी. ओलंपिक विलेज शांतिपूर्ण था. लेकिन फिर 5 सितंबर की सुबह को फिलिस्तीनी आतंकवादियों ने इस्राएली टीम के 11 सदस्यों को बंधक बना लिया. ओलिंपिक गांव की बालकनी में नकाब पहने खड़ा फलस्‍तीनी आतंकवादी जैसे पूरी दुनिया को मुंह चिढ़ा रहा था। खेल गांव में खिलाड़ी बनकर घुसे आतंकियों ने रक्‍तपात से अपनी मांगें बनवानी चाही थीं.
यह फिल्म इस घटना की त्रासदी और उसके बाद हुए असर का पता लगाती है जो गुस्सा दिलाने वाला और जानकारी देने वाला दोनों है. यह चार महिलाओं पर केंद्रित है, जिनमें मारे गए फेंसिंग कोच आंद्रे स्पित्सर की विधवा आंकी स्पित्सर और मोसाद एजेंट सिल्विया रफाएल शामिल हैं.
1972 के म्यूनिख ओलंपिक में फिलिस्तीनी आतंकवादी समूह ब्लैक सितंबर ने इस्राएली एथलीटों के क्वार्टर पर धावा बोल दिया जिसे दुनिया ने टेलीविजन पर लाइव देखा. आतंकियों ने 11 लोगों को बंधक बनाया, और सभी को मार डाला। चार महिलाएं - एक एथलीट, एक विधवा और दो अंडरकवर एजेंट - इस त्रासदी की गवाह बनीं. इस घटना ने उनके जीवन को हमेशा के लिए बदल दिया.
