    This is a neat compilation. The 90's era of DNB will forever be a very pure sound and a good example of creativity assisted by technology. When you consider that someone may not have the space or home to play instruments, creating music seems impossible. You can close your eyes and enjoy these tracks, but when you consider that it's all sampled, you begin to understand how the composer was feeling at the time.

    • @lostmagicdude888

      this is a beautiful comment

    • @Cooltrix
      @Cooltrix 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Considering these are essentially sections of other existing tracks that have been modified and stitched together, this gave me a whole new level of appreciation for early drum and bass and is why I love exploring it. I love fresh ideas that are built from scratch, but being able to fuse multiple genres together in such a smoothly flowing way is brilliant. Nothing but the highest respect to these early pioneers.

    • @Dr_Xyzt
      @Dr_Xyzt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@Cooltrix I have a major soft spot for the "Amen Break". It's an old track with NO LYRICS. The original composers just enjoyed the beat. Later, someone with time going through records heard that beat, and said, "That's a great sounding drum kit. Let's sample it." It taught me that you don't need to know how to play an instrument, or understand music theory. Music just needs to make you feel good. You have to love what you do. Same for "The funky drummer" and "The funky donkey". It helped me learn that school doesn't teach you right and wrong. You just need to see patterns and enjoy them.

    • @cd2220
      @cd2220 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I've always had this argument with my brother about EDM in general. He has this obsession with the purity of someone playing an instrument and having a talent for it. That's fine and all and there is a place for that but it doesn't have to be a hard rule for creating music. Music is an art and there is no right way to do it. The product of it is all that matters to me, even if I have a great appreciation for talent. Writing a song in a music production program is still a talent and you still need to know how music works to do it anyway. Even then that is not necessarily required.
      The early years like the 90's definitely had a beautiful mix of people figuring out how to use things like samples and software to make music and have a lot of beautiful eccentricities to go along with that.
      Composing music is an art all by itself, regardless of musical talent.

    • @Dr_Xyzt
      @Dr_Xyzt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@cd2220 Big time! Another thing about sampled music is that it showcases more than the composer. The sound engineer has to capture the sound, which then has to be particularly good. A good sample shows off all of that.
      -- I like traditional musicians too, like Chris Botti, Billy Kilson, Stan Getz, Hank Mobley, etc.
      -- In music, I have what I call "the chef effect". A chef has all kinds of prepared stuff on-hand ready to go. If you hang out with a chef, they might give you a taste of everything. "Yeah, I can do all kinds of things with this stuff. Sometimes, I just have to relax, give it a taste, and go from there."

    i feel like this music is embodient of the peak of our civilization in terms of balance between technology, common sense and just being. Now we're out of balance and everything is slowly decaying, we can't comprehend the tech and is beginning to do more harm than good. I speak of tiktok, "AIs", COVID situation, meta fuckverse and NFT-bubble, instagram "it's all about me" pandemic, and, of course climate, logistic and production problems caused by wanting more, more and more. And obesity and, man, the list goes on and on. Numbers ain't on our side. But i believe in people anyway. Let's do good

      This hits home, man.
      In the end, you do what you love, because it is your purpose and the assembly needs you.
      Help people understand the value of drifting away on a mix.
      Help people see that they are not alone even if they are by themselves. Their experiences in their mind are witnessed by the universe. Once they realize they have to go a long path of coping, the journey will show its amazing value in their book of life.
      There is no right or wrong. Once people see that, everything you mentioned will just get washed away as a faint memory and become a picture in time we use to learn from.
