The "Zombie Cars" With Two Tanks of Gas a Year Finally Wakes up During the Chinese New Year!

  • Recently, many Chinese bloggers have been talking about these so-called "zombie cars". These cars can be seen on the roads around cities like Guangzhou and Shenzhen or in remote wilderness areas, where they have been parked for a long time. Some are covered in dust, some are draped with tarps, and some have grass growing around them up to two meters high. These cars come in various shapes and sizes. Some still look very new but have been parked by their owners in the wilderness for a long time.

"Five years ago, Congress passed a law, a law which set off 1,500 million dollars, to train Western journalists in writing negative stories about China. That's done by the state agency or media in the United States. Now, those of us who go to China, or Westerners who live here and see the complexities and the broadness and try to understand China on Chinese premises see it differently. But that is where they are." -- Jan Oberg ( Director of the Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research)
$1.5 billion was used by this US government, to train journalists how to write negative stories about China.
$300 million a year, just being spent of the free press to teach them. All right, how to be biased against China?
Now, it seems unbelievable, Imagine if China was doing that, all right, You in the US would say, see, this is an attack on the freedom of the press of information!

The irony is parking outside all year round isn't a problem. Just go to it once a month and drive it around for half an hour. Run the AC and heating system, air out the interior while you're doing that and give it a quick wash. You could probably do that for 1 tank of gas a year. You're losing your hundred 50-100k vehicle not to the elements but to simple neglect.

The horror of not using your car.
If you use your car more regularly it gets so much easier.
    If you do the minimum:
20min rides every 2 weeks for the battery,
    5L anti-freeze / clear view 1-2 a year for the pumps,
change engine oil once every 1-2 years,
go to the car wash 2-3 times/year (post autumn, post winter, after dessert winds) a 10€
If you wait to long you have to:
    exchange the battery,
have the tank cleaned because of sediments,
    pumps renewed/exchanged,
    new motor oil every year,
pay high premiums at the car wash.

BUT! .. I went 4 to 6 times a year, and started it, let it idle for an a tie, then took it for a short drive around the farm. I even geased the suspension a couple times, refilled the tires with air, and added some fresh gas and stabilizer, several times! :)

Some were tarped. At last I figured out these were 'zombie cars' and the cops cleared them from some other vacant lot where they usually sit all year. Finally, just as Spring Festival started up, many came and drove them away. Many needed battery boosts, tinkering etc before they left for the holidays. Yes, there is a large migrant population here and they found this section is unfinished buildings so they just crammed the place. At one point, they so filled the street that a team of police had to show up and move half of them.

It used to be that if a Chinese man were to even consider getting married they had to have a job, a bicycle, & a refrigerator, but these days the bride's family expect a prospective husband to have a job, a car, a nice state-owned apartment, & an overseas property!
Many Australians can't afford to buy their own homes as non-Australian citizens buying property over the last 30-40 years have been driving up real-estate prices to absolutely ridiculous levels. In the process, rents have risen way faster than wages, meaning saving for a deposit becomes impossible, even for many with two incomes!
Also adding to the current housing crisis is the abysmally low availability of affordable rental-accommodation, which causes rents to rise even more, but there are many of those Chinese (& other Asians) who leave their properties vacant creating areas of 'zombie' apartments in much the same way as all those zombie-cars!

The strategy that the Chinese manufacturers employ when entering a new market is self-defeating.
When starting to sell into a foreign market, they just go whole hog and attempt to overwhelm the competition by dumping cheap products in huge quantities. This backfires and brings tariffs and sanctions on the imported goods.
No domestic suppliers will stand still for predatory marketing of products designed to bankrupt local business owners.
Because China 🇨🇳 always wants to dominate a business, they lose all the opportunities if they just start small and prove the products value. Then, if more are in demand, they can expand or partner with local business for distribution purposes.
China 🇨🇳 is greedy, and ox like in dealing with trade and markets, and that's why they fail over and over.

If you let a car sit a year in the US, it will likely need thousands of Dollars in repairs to the gasoline system. US gas is absolutely terrible. it has a large amount of ethanol in it. It turns to jelly and rusts any metal it comes into contact with because ethanol sucks water out of the air. Between jelly and rust, it can destroy the entire fuel system so that you need to replace the tank, all the fuel lines and the injectors and pump. Once jelly forms, there is no real way to get rid of in small fuel lines and injectors.
