    Purist Motorsports is a Saleen focused owner/TH-camr that might have good info. I like the idea of keeping the tubs.

    YES! Build a Saleen/DECH hybrid and leave the mini tub. SSC is also my favorite. BIG congrats on that and the new shop.

    Keep the tubs and get radical. Brings some interest and variety to the stable. JMHO. Either way, you will do it with class and attention to detail.

    That's a tough one, but its such a rare bird I'd personally like to see it back to stock (even rear section). Regardless it's a beautiful machine

    I think you really only have 2 options. 1. Finish out the drag build, clean up and replace all the interior bits or 2. 100% restoration.

    If the right rear framerail (passenger side) is still in tact. There will be a stamp directly above the axle that has the year and chassis number on it. It would read 88 0519. It's on the bottom of the frame rail. This stamp became more standard starting in 1987. Prior to 1987 there are some different locations for the stamp.

      The rail was cut for the mini tub. I don't believe this is an SSC car. Rather an 88 Saleen numbered 519 that was later painter in an SSC theme with custom door panels.

      @@TheInfamousProject all of the SSC’s were 1989 chassis. So it is unlikely this was an SSC. As you said, it’s an 88 with SSC appointments added.
      Stinks the frame rail was cut into. Still an amazing project and with your talents it will be awesome no matter what path you choose. Feel free to hit me up for anything you may need.

      Frame rail stamp is the first thing I told him to check on. To much cutting for the tubs and it was gone. Cool car for Infamous to put his touches on.

    Car is a 88 Saleen. 88-519. Also the Saleen tag on a 89 is on the firewall and will say SSC ruling out any clone questions. Also 89 SSC cars are all sequential. The last SSC WAS 89-186SSC. Cars a cool clone but not sure any value doing all that metal work to a 88 Saleen. 88-519 was sold new in Texas also.

      Completely agree. Kinda weird to see an ‘88 Saleen turned into an SSC Clone? Not to pick it apart, but there are zero SSC parts on this car. I’m not sure what I would do with this car, it has a huge identity crisis. 88 Saleen, SSC or race car? Can’t be all 3. If it were mine, I’d make it a really nice, high HP 88 Saleen driver. 🤷‍♂️

    Not sure if a Marti report would break down Saleen, but that would be another thing you could look into to get the history of what it started out as before it was converted to a Saleen. Maybe contact Saleen for info on it too. Then convert it back to what it actually came as from Saleen but leave it mini tubbed. Do a Saleen rebuild with your own TIP touch.

    I think it would do the car more justice going back stock. I’m a friend of Davins. Cool iou guys worked out a deal. Have to get you up to Foxfest this year. Event the NTFC puts on annually.

    I would put a big deep dish wheel on it and leave it mini tubbed. I think it looks good like it is but to each their own 😂.
    I think just DA T. I. P. needs more radical cars in the stable instead of stock camshaft and stock iron headed motors. Just my two cents etc. 🤔🚫🧢💯💪🌮👊🚐💨 Rock on 🤘🤘🤘 brother

    nice standard Saleen to start with. Does not look like a SSC missing the strip along the bottom of the side skirts and the front spoiler is off a 91 up.

    Hey Chris! According to the Saleen registry it is 88-0519 from Texas, last 3 of the vin should be 024 p41 chassis/hatch and yes, no ssc’s in 88 only 89

    If it’s a real SSC definitely restore it. Either way though I’d turn it back into a Saleen and get rid of the cage and mini tubs myself. If you decide to restore it let me know I might have some parts to get it back to original

    Also SSC we’re numbered 1 thru I believe 128 according to The Saleen Book.

    I say do a tutorial on how to bring this car back to as stock as possible. You've done a great job in the past on giving information on return-to-stock stuff, but this one looks like a BIG opportunity for content. But, it might also be cost prohibitive with no +ROI, and I understand that too.

    Unfortunately that car is too far gone to bother putting back stock. I'd keep the tubs and build a nice boosted street car with a road race vibe. Keep the overall look stock as it came from Saleen but with modern suspension and brakes, boosted 331 with a nice pump gas tune, A/C, clean interior, etc...and then you'd have a really cool comfortable cruiser...take it on road trips and such.

    Seats are actually Flofits in the early cars, not Recaros. Better off to sell those and get a used set of Flofits to recover. Sure there are quite a few people who would be interested in those seats for a resto or a clone.
    And i have a set of the SSC seats and they look great, but not the most comfortable for longer drives compared to Recaros.

    Keep the tubs. The work involved to bring it back to factory tubs would be serious and difficult to make it look nice. It's easier to go to mini tubs than back

    DONT RECOVER THE SEATS its near impossible to find the grey/red piped seats! Sell them and buy a beat set to recover!

    Looks good but I could never get down with that saleen spoiler… it’s too much for me. Lx hatch or cobra spoiler for me. Aside from that sick looking hatch. Don’t see many clean saleens
