Had the pleasure of playing a couple songs with Dave at his nephews wedding. We knew he would be there, and my band was playing the reception. So we brought an extra Amp and guitar and invited him up. We were out of his league. But it was an honor to play with him. One of my highest moments in my local musical career.
was that at cache creek casino in California? I seen them there on Dave's birthday I just don't remember the year his birthday is 12/7 he played cache creek on his birthday it was my neighbors birthday to that's why I remembered that date because I got fk up Dave invited everyone to his room I had to go to work at 4am ouch but a coworker that was at the show went Dave's party he said he was really down to earth and really cool just to bad I had to work the next day because I play guitar and would of been cool to ask some guitar questions
Dave looks like a million bucks. The slings and arrows of outrageous rock and roll fortune didnt get him down. Glad i had a chance to see him but once wasnt enough
Best band around those times, seen em 3 times and they never put on a bad show ever! Met the band too and they couldnt have been nicer! RIP Joey, Leonard, and Phil! God bless em!
I grew up in San Francisco in the 60s and 70s. I had a Herb Alpert album. Whipped Cream and Other Delights. First album I bought with my own money. .... Led IV.
Dave, you are still the man, underrated at best. I met you and your wife at the canyon in Agoura, dude the best show I've seen and you and your og drummer were so real and no bs. You still sound like you did from day one, you rock Mr meniketti!
My mom and dad had that same Herb Alpert album! We used to think how cool that cover was with the girl covered in whipped cream. My first album was Olivia Newton John's Totally Hot. The music was okay, but that album cover is what got me! After that, I started getting into more rock music. Y&T has always been one of my favorites. They never got enough recognition as far as I am concerend.
Dave has the greatest and most underrated voice in rock. So much range. I never miss an opportunity to see Y&T at the Catalyst (or the Boardwalk) and I saw Meniketti at Moe's Alley. I've never been disappointed.
Still need to see U all n concert.. Hopefully someday.. Jealous that My brother always sees U n concert, lol.. Love U, Ur lyrics & voice.. Keep on Rockin😘💞🌹
I was only 4 years old growing up in the South Bay when you guys formed, but by the time I was 12 in '82, I could play a mean air guitar to all of Y&T's hits and have been listening to you guys ever since....
It would be so awesome to meet and talk to Dave! Y& T is one of my favorite bands! They could rock the house down!!!!He seems like a really nice guy! Maybe I could get him to sign one of my guitars!
I have seen Y&t more times than any other band, I saw them every halloween at the Concord Pavilion back in the 80's, S.F. civic auditorium, day on the greens, Mystic theater Petaluma, at least ten times total..one of Dave's back stage right hand men, and friend of mine Jeff Kehr was going to meet me to Dave personally at one of the Mystic shows but ultimately I wasn't able to make the show so an incredible missed opportunity.
My Top five guitarist of all time! My band opened for Yesterday and Today in Antioch, CA at the Fairgrounds I think in was 1977... that same week my band learned a couple of songs off the 1st album....we were envious of you having a record deal. We were playing at the Stone in SF and the OMNI in Oakland....just hoping to get some label interest.... and we would use the song " 25 hours " as a encore song for our gigs....lol good times, good interview thumbs up for this
What a great guy. I was lucky enough to live in the Bay Area in the late 70s and 80s. I saw Y&T numerous times and they're still one of my favorite bands to this day. Just amazing. Always tight and professional. "Black Tiger" produced by Max Norman is amazing. I also thought "In Rock we Trust" was one of their best. Dave is an amazing musician.
I fucking love this band. I finally got to see them live at the Fillmore in SF in 2017. I had seen them many times at this point, but never on their home turf. I'll never forget it.
I seen Y&T a million times in from Fremont I seen them the first time before the first album came at the center theater in Fremont. Then my friends band won the battle of the bands at the band that wanted was here after but they were the guest band. I live in Oroville Ca, Y&T played feather falls Casino and Dave and the new members where great. For that on night I was blessed with Y&T again
I was at the show at the Santa Monica Civic with Kiss and Jo Jo Gunne. Dave got it wrong as Jo Jo Gunne was the headliner. We walked out of there wanting to find out more about this ‘Yesterday and Today’. Completely blown away!
I remember hearing about VanHalen getting booed off the stage at those Yesterday and Today shows, bazaar! Good for you Dave, classy. Eddie, well... nuff said, you dropped down into 3rd grear and blasted by, hope you guys are friends. Y and T
Great guitarist and vocalist right there....Yesterday and Today (Y and T) was a killer live band....Actually saw Metallica open for them one time......Leonard Haze was a monster...his right foot was epic....Listen to Earthshaker
Man oh man! I used to listen to so much Y&T in college my ears bled. I still have a heavy dose in my playlist that makes me nostalgic for the days of my youth! God bless Dave! My younger brother is seeing them in St. Charles mo right now dammit! When are you coming to KC?!?!
@FloodyBoy Randal haha! Yep when my brother told me he was going and had meet and greet with band (which didn’t happen btw) I shat myself. In the end he said that it was a sad event. He said the band sounded great and did their best to put on a show but he said there were probably less than 200 people at the bar. Very sad to see a band that filled auditoriums in their prime play at a bar in a suburb. He said that Dave literally bumped into him as he came inside from the front door of the bar after waiting for the show time to start. Dave has to actually walk thru the damned crowd to get to the stage.
@FloodyBoy Randal I’m 55 and he turns 50 in 3 weeks. He’s a hard core rocker (thanks to me of course!) I’ll bet Foghat was a great show. He enjoyed the show and was only expressing how sad he was that it was poorly attended and how crappy the venue was. Insulting for a band with that history. He just sent me the video from the show he recorded (mean streak) I’m gonna try to post it and will send you a link if I’m successful.
Great story,! I started playing guitar in '86 watching tapes I made of Mtv Metal Shop, Headbanger's Ball and a broadcast Y&T concert (Dave wore a pink jumpsuit but dedicated his solo to Jimi)!😎 Haha! Kreske's became K-mart!
Good story Dave. I remember seeing you at Winterland when I first started seeing shows. It was a good time then, a very different time and one of my ex's loved you. I had her up on my shoulders at a day on the green, right up front so she could see you. I'm very surprised you didn't get bigger but you've always been consistently playing somewhere and keeping it together after you lost your band mates. Cheers, Rock on Y and T.
I remember checking the Sunday calendar section for Y&T at the starwood. Fortunate to see them numerous times including the crues first show. Actually was in the balcony. Used to love when Dave played solos and people would tap on his guitar. I remember at Costa Mesa they opened for hagar. Sammy really screwed them cutting the p.a power in half. Our band still plays nasty Sadie earthshaker and my favorite hurricane. Still catch them when they're in town. I'm sure Dave couldn't believe how inaccurate the movie the dirt was. The place was packed no fight. If Vince jumped in the crowd he would have got his ass kicked
Wow, can't believe he name checked Herb's "The Lonely Bull". I loved that tune. Also, it's been decades since I've heard any one mention JoJo Gunne - not saying they were great just that they were an early-mid 70s staple act which spun out Jay Ferguson. Anyway, always liked Y&T
DAVE do YOU remember SPIDER KELLY the original one from SAC.CA thay moved to L.A. starwood whiskey rainbow bar n grill ? ?????? Thats my big brother s. Band thay HEARD of you long ago YOUR AMAZING DAVE you SHURE KEEP YOUR PIPES chrome polished YOUR voice hasent LOST NUTHING
well Dave I have an accordion + a les paul and a marshall I can't plug the accordion into my marshall it was my dad's from the 50's so no jack maybe a good thing lol
If he grew up in a neighbourhood as tough as he suggests I totallly get why his parents tried to keep him out of it. I'm on their side, sad it has to be that way, but....
I mean no disrespect but when you say you opened up for queen for two dates night at the opera tour can you just let us hear something did you meet them did you meet Freddy did you meet Brian it would just be wonderful to hear
Lol. Umm guessing most headliners do not socialize with opening bands especially ones without yet an album released lol...that said. Ill listen to Y&Ts catalog any day over Queens for sure. Totally Overrated vs underrated in this case as well as just sheer output and talent of great vocal as well as killer guitarist. Freddy not so much
When I was young I thought "Chicago" were pretty pathetic, but the ORIGINAL Chicago with Terry Kath, were absolute Rock GODS! If anyone who likes rock music learns nothing from this little stupid post - look up EARLY chicago!
He's such a gentleman... & humble to boot
What a legend this man and Y&T are, pioneers of 80s rock without a doubt.
Big legend
queen should be honored to have Y&T open for them.
Legend. One of the pioneers of hard rock that hardly anyone acknowledge. They deserve way more recognition. I wish Dave a speedy recovery
Had the pleasure of playing a couple songs with Dave at his nephews wedding.
We knew he would be there, and my band was playing the reception.
So we brought an extra Amp and guitar and invited him up.
We were out of his league. But it was an honor to play with him.

Absolutely brilliant guitarist and artist! ONE OF MY VERY FAVORITES OF ALL TIME. THANK YOU DAVE. Y&T IS MYTHICAL BAND! 👍👍👏👑
Great singer great guitarist and effing underrated but he is a monster!!!! God bless Dave! And even into his sixties he still kicks ass!

He's such a Rockstar so good one of my favorite bands.
I grew up in San Francisco in the 60s and 70s. I had a Herb Alpert album. Whipped Cream and Other Delights. First album I bought with my own money. .... Led IV.
Herb Alpert rocks!

@FloodyBoy Randal it was actually a small bar in Ofallon. Close enough.
@FloodyBoy Randal just clarified with my brother. St. Peter’s. Diamond Billiard Hall.

Dave, everyone in our age group had Tijuana Brass in our dad's record collecting. "Whipped Cream & Other Delights" cover was.... well....
CCR , Canned Heat , Hendrix and Chicago . Quite an introduction to live music
Great story,! I started playing guitar in '86 watching tapes I made of Mtv Metal Shop, Headbanger's Ball and a broadcast Y&T concert (Dave wore a pink jumpsuit but dedicated his solo to Jimi)!😎
