I'm a Manta 42 owner so I thought that I would clear up a few items. While at anchor you can raise the jib using a halyard to allow easier deck crossing. I usually don't bother and just cross the deck in front the forestay and along the big crossbeam. That crossbeam is another nice feature that is characteristic of many Eric Lerouge cats (which the Manta is based on); it's robust and no maintenance vs the aluminum spar used in most cruising cats. The carpet liner on the walls looks dated but I've grown to like it. It helps to reduce the sounds in the boat and is easy to clean since it's synthetic. If steam cleaning doesn't work you can hit it with chemicals if needed. The water stains on it are a good thing in my opinion as it gives you an early alert to a water leak that a panel would have hidden.
A few things about the Manta. While at anchor you raise the SELF TENDING JIB and it's out of the way. While sailing its always off to one side or the other and you can get around unincumbered. This boat is single handed easily and safely offshore from the cockpit. The engines under the beds have great access as can open the frond door and/or the bed lifts without removing cushions and is held up with pistons.Working on them is easy and cool since your inside with the AC blowing on you! We only run one or the other if we can't sail and rest one the non-motoring side for the quietness and it a bit cooler. The box they questioned in the locker was indeed a next gen 5.5 which will run one AC no problem all night. The wiring and mechanicals on the Manta is easily accessed. The monkey hair on the walls in the bedrooms actually wicks moisture away and provides some noise insulation. The fridge and freezer are air cooled and are very reliable. The helm seat is well protected from the weather but was a little stiff so I put a nice captains chair in that reclines. The bridge deck clearance isn't the best and I thought it would slam a lot but the design is well thought out and I find it doesn't really slam...its more of a slap if that make sense and I only hear that when beating straight into a headwind. I've yet to see a Manta with crazing. This is one tough boat. 40 degrees upwind is about all I've been able to do and 45 degrees is even better. The downwind sail is like a magic carpet ride.... quiet and smooth. I looked at a lot of catamarans before buying this Manta and there is a reason the following is cult like.... the quality, comfort and safety on the Manta is hard to beat. I would not put a roller fuller up front. the boom jib is great and very easy to handle. As you walk towards the starboard steps behind the tv which swings out, there is storage and also below the tv in the cabinet.
Thanks, I was just looking at this boat on line and investigating Manta Catamaran yesterday. Great timing. Your video shows that the boat needs a bit of love which the photos did not show. And yes this an affordable owner versions catamaran. It is not old. it is a 2006. For that price you usually get a 30 years old bit up up charter boat with 4 cabins and 4 heads, a useless layout for live abord. I will put Manta on my chopping list now.
One thing most people neglect to inspect is the condition of the sails. This can be a huge expense when preparing to make way. Just an observation. A new suit of sails can easily cost $10,000.
You are so right about carpet as a headliner. All the warning signs go up when I see that because it says a lot about the builder. It collects dirt and moisture. You can steam clean it but often that is the beginning of hidden mild and mildew problems. There are many better alternatives but carpet is cheap and covers a lot of transgressions.
Looks to be in good order with a few DIY repairs/upgrades. Change the genoa to a furler. I like the layout and sturdy feel. I especially like the covered cockpit area - that wouldn’t be cheap to replicate. And the wiring looks to be in good order. You’d do well to seriously consider this, at the right price of course.
Manta catamarans are very unique and have quite a "cult" following. Current and former owners absolutely love them and you'd be hard pressed to find an owner that has anything negative to say about them. I've always been impressed with people's loyalty to Mantas and compare their passion to Harley Davidson owners.
@@brianballard1729 Not necessarily. Harleys aren't considered great bikes by anyone who doesn't ride them... they're gas guzzlers and they're noisy. Mantas may be loved by their owners and still not great for anybody who isn't the type for them, like Harleys.
Folks, enjoy the boat tours, watch each one. Thanks for doing these, I think they're very helpful. One thing I would ask to change is to let us know what the price is, in the video. A simple disclaimer of, the price as of May 24, 2020 is $X, is sufficient, and I'd bet those that are in the market for a sailboat are watching on their TVs. We certainly are and it's an irritation every time to have to go through looking it up. Of course, the benefit is that it gives those actually considering a sailboat, and who are the bulk watching, what the prices are, and what they can expect, whether they need to adjust their expectations, etc.... Those that are serious about inquiring can engage with the broker and begin the negotiations. Thanks again, KWL
K.W. Landry , for crying out loud! , watch the entire video! They carefully explained why the put the details in the description and not on screen! It's very simple to check it out . If you watching on the TV then just grab your smart phone and look up the details! And if your are looking for a boat by searching on your you tube feed on TV you can't possibly be serious! Please! Cheers Warren
I truly enjoy watching you're videos and I'm truly not trying to be negative. I just would really like to see you two do a refit on a newly acquired boat and see you guys do some long passages.
Hi Folks, Nice have you back. Is Freebie out of the Keys yet? If so, I guess I can discard all that info Don gave me on boat movers. These boats were initially built by Endeavor employees in Largo FL. After a series of ownership and location changes they closed shop at Sarasota in 2008. Used Mantas of this vintage can have some electrical wiring issues. Apparently not so on this boat though. I am impressed you are looking behind the distribution panel. The batteries look especially well configured and installed. You are getting better. Go to the places that are not readily visible and obvious. That will tell you a lot about the builder and the owner(s). Layup was pretty good on these boats with lots of vacuum bagging to reduce resin and weight, but use caution. Not all Mantas were created equal.
Hey Ed, thanks for the kind words! It looks like the new owner has his own truck and trailer and will come and pick the boat up when the keys open up here soon.
Dont agree at all with the Nav station criticism. And on my boat I have a PC HDMI module (turns tv into pc). That is more than adequate. The wiring in that boat is Epic! Beautiful boat, would buy it in ONE SECOND if I hadn't moved to San Diego... The owner must have loved that vehicle...
The locking compartments are a great concept. You only want to use them for stuff you randomly need. You can make a jig that plugs into a cordless drill that will open them quickly and easily.
Never, ever, ever "compound and wax non-skid deck." Only smooth gelcoat. To bring non-skid back to life, use non-skid deck cleaner and if any stubborn stains, use Barkeeper's Friend.
From some non-skid maker: YES, do wax the non-skid. It seals & protects. But only use a light coating on non-skid wax (similar to surfboard wax, for real) not regular deck wax. If you use too much, it builds up in the "valleys" and traps dirt. But done right--yes it works.
I watched your Seawind 38' 1160 rental review prior to watching this. Hands down I liked the Seawind much better. Congrats on the baby. Keep your videos coming!
haha, fascinating to see newbies first unguided walk-around on a Manta. BTW the way you get from one foredeck side to the other is to swing around forward of the forestay. And only a few were built by Endeavor, most were built independently and to a much higher quality standard.
Very few people use a nav station for navigation anymore. It went out with paper charts. Now it remains as a useless relic of a bygone era. It is included because boatbuilders know men still think they are the ancient mariner. (Silas Mariner...Ancient Marner. I get them mixed up. It is a teacher's joke.) Now the nav station is usually a gathering place for poorly stored and organized gear, and usually not an efficient use of space. Think about where you are really going to spend time. I guarantee you will not stand watch at a nav station. I have over 50,000 miles underway and do not recall ever doing nav work at the nav station. If I am using paper charts or chart books I use the dining table. Use that wasted space for galley storage, etc. Take care of the cook and the cook will take care of you. In the age of chartplotters, autopilots, handheld remotes, and radar, a nav station is a waste.
Unless like he mentions, its a place to do watch in foul weather. Also many people use the nav station as a work office, working remotely (or editing their YT videos ;), where you don't have to stow the computer and what not for each meal. Yeah its the first thing to go as length shrinks or if you need space during a refit, but it still has its use.
Very disappointing. It seems like they try to not offend the broker so they can still work with him in the future. This is maybe at the range of $120000 to $140000.
Welcome back guys! Really enjoy the boat tours. That’s a nice cat for a newbie sailor who wants to mod it out the way they want. Hopefully you can do more cat tours for us. Cheers from Australia!!
Practically designed boat. The carpet is protection from bumps and scrapes? And maybe extra insulation? I’m assuming they can enclose the helm, judging on how they designed the rest of it.
The Danish Marine Authority considers tablet, smartphone, and PC/computer as even more unreliable than yacht-level auxiliary navigation equipment.(chart plotter) with *ERC* charts. Maybe the US counterpart to The Danish Marine Authority are of the same opinion.
Nice tour guys ' what's up I know it's been a while' it must be a learning the lines tour! 😂👍 I guess you missed that the manta was made by Endeavor , they also made some power cats too ( same hulls?). Defiantly good quality builder from Florida.. it has that american made look ... not sure what it is but a more 'stick built' less interior molding . Better in the long run for maintenance , hence the carpet liner etc. Cheers Warren

Hello, I was wandering if y’all would consider a hardship case on freebie. I have a friend that’s a old sailor, but just middle age. He has had an unfortunate turn in his life. Anyway he is now homeless but not destitute and has the money to follow your needs of moving and restoring freebie. He just can’t buy one that he can live on and restore it. I understand that isn’t what your asking for, but I just wanted to ask. Thanks
If you make over a certain amount one house payment kills you on your taxes. Buying something else actually helps you on your taxes and that average cap for most families is over 200k a year. 250k for a boat is just another house payment. Easy peasy.
@@kennethcombs429 Yeah cuz school teachers, police, firefighters and service men/women are all lazy since they get paid crap and cant afford a 250k house. Amazing.
If you want to have that carpet cleaned them the absolutely best & most thorough cleaning would be a truck mounted steam cleaner. A good friend of mine who owns a carper cleaning biz, actually lived in a houseboat on Lake Lanier in Georgia. Kings Carpet Cleaning!! Lol. Portable units and other types of professional cleaning services do NOT come close to a truck mounted steamers. Its more expensive but does the job the 1st time. Its gets deep penetration with a pressurized hot water blasted into the carpet fibers and then is immediately extracted by a powerful vacuum hose connected to a wand or handheld upholstery unit. A annual cleaning @ a cost of $200-$300 professional cleaning will make your carpet look brand new and last years & years. Be sure to purchase a few cans of 3m scotch guard teflon spray after each cleaning. The pros will offer this at an additional charge but do it yourself for half the price and a better coating. This is key to maintaining new looking carpet in high traffic areas or where spills might occur. The stain will not penetrate the teflon coating so when you do your annual cleaning, all stains come right out leaving you with carpet that will last a decade or longer. On walls, you could probably do every 2 - 3yrs. Its well worth the cost of the cleaning. We've tried every cleaner you can buy at the national big box stores, walmart, etc... and they may suck up some dirty water but even after you went over it thoroughly, a truck mounted unit can come behind you and still pull black water out of your clean carpet. These home appliance type units are good for spot cleaning spills and mud tracked in... i dont own a carpet cleaning biz or work for any companies in the biz, ive helped my buddy occasionally and seen 1st hand the difference it makes. So, im not a salesman... just passing on the info to help anyone who decides to give this a try. You will be so happy you did. If u live in the Atlanta, Ga. area, look up Kings Carpet Cleaning. Mike King has been in biz for over 30yrs and stays slammed without any advertising just on repeat biz and referrals. I dont know of anyone that has ever been unhappy with the results. He may be a good friend of mine but he's the best in the biz hands down and i say that on a purely professional level, not personal.
Glad ya’ll are back making videos. I must be super tight because I have not seen a boat yet that seems worth the asking price, or maybe it is just not in the cards for me to own one. Happy ya’ll are back though and hope to see a lot more videos, maybe the right boat and price will come along. Thank you and stay safe.
The white thing ..Think it’s a generator ..the high door step is called “freeboard “ .. A higher freeboard is better for ocean sailing Carpet walls are insulation to prevent moister build up. A bit old style but it works well. Price wise .. I like it a lot. Nice and cozy
Monk Petite hi , actually the high coaming At the forward end of the cotpit used to be called a bridge deck on a conventional boat , a very important safety factor in an offshore boat , largely forgotten on coastal cruisers and most catamarans these days .....making the interior to exterior flow as one , great for dock queens or anchor bound boats but for serious work a good high bridgedeck is important , you only have to get pooped once and fill the cockpit and you will know why you want one. For offshore racing the requirement is for the companionway to be capable of being locked closed . The modern so-called offshore capable catamarans with their huge sliding doors, while unlikely to be pooped in most situations but if they get into trouble they might be quite susceptible to flooding especially if they did not close the doors! Cheers Warren
While I enjoy your boat tours, it's just not the same as walking the decks. I've been interested in boating for a couple years now and since I'm starting to see a little light at the end of my tunnel I'd like to start looking at boats to find the features that work for me. What are the best ways to dig through boats like you guys do for your videos, knowing that it's still going to be a good while before I'm ready to spend money? I live around Baton Rouge La if that makes any difference. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. 😎
I wish we had cats on the market in Canada. Because it sucks to have to pay $2000 to be locked up for 3 days, then stuck at home for 11 days just to get it to BC. It's all mono hulls up here. There is probably a reason, but that config of a boat could be well suited for northern waters being easier to keep airtight.
Well kids, I felt that this particular cat was kind of small and cramped both outside and down below. The stay sail boom really is in the way up forward and that would be one of the first things a new owner should fix in some way. The carpeted walls remind me of an old Bayliner power boat. It looks cheap and really did need a good steam cleaning. One would think that the seller would have taken care of that before putting it on the market (curb appeal)! Far too few decent size windows giving the interior a shaded or darker than necessary look. On the plus side is the galley and the ample refrigeration/freezer space. Installing a window above the vent hood a must! Happy that is has an AC system, especially if it stays in the Florida area. Did not see or hear you mention a generator. All in all a fairly nice boat but it will take some serious work to put it right.
I have been looking at the Privilege 39, seems like a well designed boat for the $$. They do have two characteristics that put me off, the helm is near the stern of the boat and not protected from the weather. Also they are a galley-down design, but you can get one of these for much less money than the popular cat brands.
Enjoy your boat tours. First time commenting been Subscribed since I seen yall on Sailing UMA. If you see this question do you think someone that is mobility challenged could operate a cat like this from the wheelhouse area??? I can't move around fast and have trouble being on my feet for anytime over about 10 minutes.
Thanks for the boat reviews, I have been enjoying them. BTW the device that you. Were wondering about is a more modern Life Sling type rescue divice in a hard case. ( good). Lots of comments on price. Don’t worry about the price. The boat is worth exactly what some is willing to pay for it. I never get hung up to much on price when I’m looking for a cruising boat. Don’t get too emotional about it, (a common error). Negotiate negotiate. I have bought and sold 6 serious live aboard cruisers In my life. And worked in the marine/yacht industry. Make me an offer, I won’t get insulted, I will simply counter your offer. Back and forth, it works or it doesn’t. Next offer please. Same on the buying end. The people that bought my last boat, a cruise ready Tartan 38. Got a great deal. I was ready to sell. The 2 boats before A KP 44 and a Cal 2-46 I did well on. The buyer of the Cal is still out cruising the world Baja Mex, HI, Vancouver, South Pac. back to Vancouver. He emailed me a few thousand miles along and said “ this boat is everything that you said it was”. That’s what you like to hear! That boat is 47 yrs old now and still crossing oceans. It;s all about maintenance and quality of build more than age. And the buyers got great boats. So, go for it. See what happens. And
If you find a boat that your serious about, the best advice anyone can give you is, hire an experienced marine surveyor!. You will learn more about the vessel in one day that most in years!
That boat is listed for over $300 000 USD on yatchworld.com, I don't see how that's affordable for the average Americans let alone for Canadian or anybody else since the conversion is like half a million dollars Cad.
Overall a nice boat and appears to be a good value. Would change the self-tacking jib to a furler and even though it's a royal pain in the ass, I would seriously think of taking on the project to take out the carpet headliner and hull liner. That would modernize the boat tremendously. The wiring and mechanicals look well done. It's not a contemporary layout salon-wise, but if you want it to be a bluewater cruiser for two people, ti could fit the bill. Not great for entertaining, but could work well for live-aboards.
greetings i watch your video's a lot, however, i watch your videos on Roku on my big screen tv and i cannot scroll down for a description and if i want to see the price i have to boot up my laptop and go to youtube and find your video to find the price why not just say the price? it would it would solve me from being annoyed!
Very nice cat, question was there front and side protection for the cockpit?? You kept saying it was protected, but I just did not see it. It had a nice top, but if you caught in a blow your getting soaked from what I can tell ??
Not that I saw. It was protected in that it was well covered from above and inboard enough that you'll be out of most rain and ocean spray. The hard top would make it easy to make an enclosure out of vinyl and sunbrella if you're worried about being too exposed.
Glad you are back, I enjoy your videos. Tell us the secret.. how did you get past the police checkpoint to get into the keys? I belong to the Upper Keys sailing club in Key Largo and I have not been able to get there since the lock down started. I have been looking for a cruising cat so this was good info.
I'm a Manta 42 owner so I thought that I would clear up a few items.

Most important comfort related thing is bridgedek clearance. This boat has poor clearance and would slam and slap.
YOU SHOULD DO A VIDEO OF HOW MANY BOATS HAVE SOLD AFTER THE BOAT TOURS YOU DO,
Or flights to Charleston SC cancelled
You're looking very pretty today Randi😊, nice to see you guys again.
Great video. Definitely looking into Mantas. Glad you guys are back doing boat tours.
Until our adventures cross, fair winds and full sails.
I really enjoy your boat tours, thank you both. Please bring your baby when possible that really makes it special. Be safe 🙏
Always need a big compartment to keep your hos in. Or hose?
$219,000... we have very different definitions of affordable.
Have to agree with that!!
That is a lot for this boat. But not a lot for a Cat. Absolutely more affordable than your average cat.
Very disappointing. It seems like they try to not offend the broker so they can still work with him in the future. This is maybe at the range of $120000 to $140000.
@@Rockingoodman Sure is a lot when you can get a similar Leopard 45 or Lagoon (much better for blue water also) for 30-50k less.
Archer Well!🧐La dee fuckin daa....
😋
Great seeing guys again, I wonder if after you give away freebe your considering another boat?
The jib boom is to facilitate self tacking from the cockpit. Notice the jib is smaller than on most boats with roller furling.
You guys do good work thank you for taking the time to share with all of us!
Welcome back!
I am glad to see you are well.
Thanks Kevin!
I think that style of being more boatworthy and looking less like sn appartment in a protected marina is very appealing.
You made a very good point about the unused seacocks. A turn of the valve will sink the boat. Unused seacocks need a pipe plug or cap as appropriate.
They pointed out the washing machine isn’t hooked up,, so the sea cocks aren’t really unused. When the new ones are hooked up, problem solved
Welcome back guys! Really enjoy the boat tours. That’s a nice cat for a newbie sailor who wants to mod it out the way they want. Hopefully you can do more cat tours for us. Cheers from Australia!!
Nice to see you back. Also noticed you are using different camera angles. You improve with each video.
Practically designed boat. The carpet is protection from bumps and scrapes? And maybe extra insulation?
I’m assuming they can enclose the helm, judging on how they designed the rest of it.
Its like a more seaworthy gemini - nice. Looks like a great first liveaboard for the right couple or small family
With everything going to using tablet computers as remotes the Nav station might not be as big a deal as it once was.
The Danish Marine Authority considers tablet, smartphone, and PC/computer as even more unreliable than yacht-level auxiliary navigation equipment.(chart plotter) with *ERC* charts.
Maybe the US counterpart to The Danish Marine Authority are of the same opinion.
Definitely a really solid boat
Keep these tours coming !!!!!!!!!!!

Mantas were the last cats built with interior joinery. That makes it a bit heavier but also infinitely more maintanable.
I've been very impressed with the amount of livable space on these cats
Nice to see you back.
OMG so excited for you guys!
Not bad. Some cosmetic stuff but how many Hours on the engines and inquire about reliability of those Volvos. Thank for sharing.
non-opening forward ports in the salon and smaller door means very little ventilation in the tropics.
That white box on the port aft rail is a M.O.B. Man Over Board module. Pull the pin & a self-inflating vertical marker and life sling is deployed. www.switlik.com/marine/mom8/features?hsCtaTracking=4d61597b-b3f8-4980-9deb-eb2d5167e483%7C4c96fb6b-ab03-4328-a6f9-7930717c7fdc
The black triangle is a boom break with the red & white line. boom-brake-walder.com/
The main sheet is end boom attached to the arch you can see it when you're looking at the solar. 0:6:22
I really love this boat. It's weird, but very cozy
How cute. Matching scarfs
The thing on port aft quarter that you were unsure of,is a man overboard module.hop you never require its use.
Great Video guys.
Thanks
For 90% of people 250,000 is something they will never, ever have.
@Will H are you really that out of touch?
If you make over a certain amount one house payment kills you on your taxes. Buying something else actually helps you on your taxes and that average cap for most families is over 200k a year. 250k for a boat is just another house payment. Easy peasy.
really sucks to think about that, but it just makes me save more and work harder.
Because 90% of people are lazy and know absolutely nothing about money...
You didn't show how the lines come back.
Are they all accessible from that protected cockpit?
Glad ya’ll are back making videos. I must be super tight because I have not seen a boat yet that seems worth the asking price, or maybe it is just not in the cards for me to own one. Happy ya’ll are back though and hope to see a lot more videos, maybe the right boat and price will come along. Thank you and stay safe.
If a boat is listed with a broker, it's going to be over priced.
I was just wondering when you were going to be back and here you are...Good to see you are back 😊👍
Nice video guys, keep creating .... BIG LIKE
Good observation about the raised "bridge" at the aft companionway door.
The white thing ..Think it’s a generator ..the high door step is called “freeboard “ ..
A higher freeboard is better for ocean sailing
Carpet walls are insulation to prevent moister build up.
Thank you. 😎
Love your reviews, glad you are back making vids. Could you please tell us the headroom in the cabins when you do your reviews? Thanks.
I have read through all the comments and cannot find the price
That unit looks like a heater/furnace and the tank on the port rail looks like a day-tank for diesel to pour into the diesel heater.
thats a great cat, i wish. looks like a lots been spend on it some point in the past! great to see you uploading videos again
Omg. I worried you guys had thrown in the towel. I'm rooting for your success.
Thank you! We're not going anywhere!
You guys do a great job. I share your goals, except I've decided to do it at 60 on the hook. :)
P.S. I'd like to see you tour an affordable Privilege if you can find one.
I wonder if boat funk is like RV Funk?
Welcome back, hoping you will become active again.
Welcome Back! Great looking Cat.
greetings i watch your video's a lot, however, i watch your videos on Roku on my big screen tv and i cannot scroll down for a description and if i want to see the price i have to boot up my laptop and go to youtube and find your video to find the price why not just say the price? it would it would solve me from being annoyed!
I'd use the single berth as a storage/ food storage instead of the bed....2 double berths is enough...extra storage on a live aboard is essential
