Great thing about English pubs is that you meet all kinds of people. About 30 years ago I began talking to a most jovial spirit, lovely guy. I must have got around to asking what he did for a living to which he replied: "What does every schoolboy want to be?" "Astronaut?" Turns out he was a train driver. A really sweet guy without a bad bone in his body. On a subsequent endeavour into the mutual caress of lady ale, he told me that he'd found this track - Aces High, although he didn't know its name or origins. He was so pumped up by its vigor that he was almost in tears describing it. He said that friends & family were calling him a Nazi for playing it - how dumb they were... Ron Goodwin was an absolute genius and easily out-nazied the Nazis. I swear that if this is played on my deathbed, I'll sit up straight, shoulders back and proffer a salute: "Heil Goodwin!" It is not the Luftwaffe march. Aces High is the title theme for a British Film by a great British Composer. The "Aces" were the gallant British and Commonwealth fighter pilots who day by day demolished the German Airforce in the skies over England.
Funny, because the scene in the movie in which it is played clearly shows a Ju 52/3m bringing luftwaffe generals to inspect all the new French bomber bases in newly captured France, after your guys got recalled by Churchill to defend your island home. If you care to look at the actual statistics, your fighters shot down more bombers than fighters, the Me109 kill ratio on fighter vs fighter combat was between 2 and 3 to one. Anybody can shoot down a poorly defended bomber going 100 mph slower than a fighter, keeping formation, and lumbering under the weight of bombs. Had attention not quickly gone to other areas in Europe by the Germans, and the game handed over to submarines, the outcome would have been vastly different. Sealion couldn't possibly be stopped by what little you had in 1940. Luckily, Hitler said you weren't Germanys natural enemy. The war was the result of the international financiers clique, as NS Germany tossed them all out. Churchill said this in his own memoirs. It was a " crime" the bankers couldnt let Germany get away with. If it had truly been over Poland, why did he hand it over to the Soviets? 🤔🤔🤔
That wouldn't be the same glorious British whom ran from the Beaches at Dunkirk or whom wouldn't have won without the help of other Commonwealth nations backing them in every fight from the Boer War on down to WWII would it? The reason for the sarcasm is because my Grand Da fought at Gallipoli in 1915 and you limeies utterly muddled that fight good. So do us a favor. Your bloody sunset empire is dead without the other Commonwealth nations backing you up.
Under the YT video of a single rendition of this, someone said Ron Goodwin could out-German the Germans when it came to German WW2 music. I agree to the point that I am surprised it hasn't been banned in Germany, it is so idolizing, catching, and alluring. Or is it just a little pretentiously mocking? 😉
