I was working as a Sous Chef in 1989 when the GM said hey stop by the office on the way out. We usually would talk about the day and taste several wines for various reasons or occasionally a 21 yr Macallen a customer gave us. This night he had a Blanton’s and we decided to add it to the list. He was more impressed than I was as I remember. I thought it drank hot and lacked complexity. Our well bourbon was Weller Antique 107 so we tasted them side by side and I finally saw the added complexity of the complexity and the differences in the 4 bottles of Blantons the rep left for samples. Still I was unimpressed. So that 1989ish fast forward to today and I am an avid Bourbon drinker (shake my head at the crazy prices) and I now love some Blanton’s.
Missed this Live but my question would have been - if these whiskies have the same mashbill what differentiates each single barrel brand, is it just a flavour profile that each barrel develops accidentally?
It isn't accidental. They have been collecting an incredible amount of data about their barrels throughout all the rick houses, locations (down to the exact slot), and complete meteorological records. For over three generations. By monitoring and tasting of barrels aging across their campus (the number is close to or slightly above a million at time of writing and will go up when their expansion is complete in 2023/24), some barrels stay put an some barrels get moved around for the conditions required to develop the flavors and characteristics that fit into the envelop of what each single barrel brand is intended to be. Sometimes they fail, sometimes they come up with something unique. And they have a ton of experimental barrels, rooms, controls, etc. If you go on a tour at BT, it's a great question to ask and they can explain it in quite a bit of detail. Make sure you see the enclosed Double Eagle Rare chamber.
As someone just getting into Bourbon, i really "hate" that I can never find any of these bourbons. Buffalo Trace is even hard to get a hold of and it doesnt help that I'm in Virginia (state controlled) so the hopes of me getting any of these at shelf price is not happening. Can anyone recommend a good delivery that doesnt dig your wallet by 400%?
BT distillery doesn't ship direct to VA. The ABC controls every drop that comes in. If VA could ever dislodge the communist, power & money hungry leftists from State legislature, maybe that would change but don't see it happening anytime soon.
I've never once seen Ancient Age, Hancock's, Rock Hill, or Elmer T Lee in a store between eastern PA, MD, DC, and VA. Blanton's became unobtainable in the last three years. These ABC stores claim they do lotteries and limited releases, but never caught one or seen one at any of my area shops. Nice to see but kinda pointless when it's impossible to get the product.
Ancient Age is on the shelves in VA now. Haven't seen Hancock or Rock Hill anywhere in the mid-Atlantic either. Actually haven't seen them in Kentucky. There are some stores in DC that can special order but you pay a premium.
This is comical, of course this guy is going to say every one of those bourbons made by the company he works for are great! Let’s have this character do a blind tasting. Also, he conveniently does not bring up age on any of these!
11:22 for your age comment. Did you watch the whole video? He's not trying to promote these. They are already hard to find. This is an informational video for someone who might run into one in the wild and might want to buy a pour at a restaurant. This helps you decide which one you want to try if you are presented the chance. Or if you have a bottle you can drink it in unison with the video and try to test your palette against his.
No wonder I can't find any of these. He's drinking it all. Cheers! Happy Thanksgiving!

When I started getting into Bourbon around 2015, Hancock's was readily available as a substitute for hard to get Blanton's
Love the content! Thank you Drew!
Glad to have these details, really helps to enjoy the experience of drinking these. Can I have some Wellers?
Great story!
Love these videos! Am curious about the print of the buffalo crossing on the right-hand side... Anything you can share?
Can we come and visit? Have the COVID restrictions been lifted?
Curious to know how many barrels of mash Bill #2 compared to mash Bill #1 since #2 is so much harder to find.

Proof, warehouse and age.

Which rickhouse , where it is in the rickhouse, weather/seasons all will change flavor.

I wish I could still have hair at Drew's age.

DRew said Elme ris 100 proof? I thought it was 90?
It is 90 he misspoke.
Second n has an apostrophe after it.
I believe it's a colon
Of these 5, only the bulk produced AA is ever seen in NC. So sad. Allocation SUCKS.
Yep. Need to vote out these communists who just want more power, control, and money.
These would be good if liquor stores didn’t charge 200-400 bucks. Scam

I think the point of the video is tasting mash bill 2 at different proofs .
