We had NO IDEA California was hiding this gem of a National Park (and that it offers some of the same features you’d find in a more crowded Yellowstone! Since we were camping two hours away, we tried to pack in as many stops as we could in one day.

11 years ago I lived about 2 hrs away from Lassen and would make weekend trips up there. I can almost guarantee there was snow on the summit. I have photos of hiking thru snow in June and sledding on the summit in June, July and August.
    It’s a hidden gem of a place.

It really is sooo pretty. We went in 2022 and that year it was carzy how little snow there was everywhere around there. A friend and I hiked the summit of Mt. Shasta with no snow gear at all - something I didn't realize isn't really a normal experience for Shasta. -J

Hi kids. I was out there in 2017 and planned to stop at Lassen on my way around Oregon / Washington / N. Cali and ran out of time, because I had to see the air races in Reno. Went very near it and darn I didn't see it. I might go back, but here's why probably not. I have a great grand that loves her papa and papa wants to see her and play almost every morning.

There are some really nice lava tubes in Hawai'i as well--not meant to distract from this one. As others have already said, you've done a nice job of introducing us to this park. Thanks.

Love your videos. Keep up the good works and your channel will continue to grow. Thank you for all your hard and time consuming work.

Thanks so much for the encouragement. It can be disheartening sometimes to look at the stats, but we'll keep plugging away. We really enjoy watching our own videos when we're done so if all else fails, we'll have a fun "photo album" to look back on.

Ape Cave, near Mt. St. Helens in Washington is the longest unbroken lava tube in the continental USA.

OOO! We'll have to check that out! We stopped by Mt. ST. Helens later that year but only did the Johnston Lookout. -J

Wonderful video, but watching Kaylen’s shoulders growing more and more pink was anxiety-inducing! 😅

We just came from Yellowstone so seeing Lassen is pretty familiar looking. We weren't able to get there last fall because it was closed due to wildfires in the area.
Congratulations on hitting 500 subscribers. PS We have officially now been to the Grand Canyon, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania
Update later in the video I see that you drove through where all the wildfires were. That's incredible. 69% of the park was burned.
PS quote of the video. "I'm concerned about that cancer"

Re: quote of the video - 😂 Yes! I (Joseph) completely agree. There was no way that was getting edited out.
Re: Fires - We were amazed at just how much was burnt. There is already new growth beginning in many of the areas though!
Re: Subscribers - Thanks so much! We hovered at like 497-498 for what felt like an eternity.

You could spend a whole week in Yellowstone and not see all the thermal areas. Lassen has a half hour walk around some mud pits and not a single geyser in sight. Its a really cool place but nothing like Yellowstone.

Nope it wasn’t in 1917 when lassen erupted it was in 1914 my mother has pictures that her parents had they were married that same year it erupted

    • @OpenRoading

According to my research it erupted May 22nd 1915 (the big one) but continued to have minor eruptions through 1917. I don't have any photos of it happening though. -J
