OMG, many, many thanks for this video! I actually researched Zoom cameras like the Q2N 4K, but they are not accessible. In the comments of one video I read a very good suggestion: use the H1N as a USB microphone for the iPhone and record videos on the phone with the Zoom recorder as audio input. Brilliant idea! And I got my H1N Essential today. I already learned some things thanks to your video. I am sad to confirm that the time and date issue is real. I live in Germany where we order the date in day, month, year. In this setting I was unable to change year and day, it just wouldn't change. I changed to the default year, month, day and then changed back to my familiar setting after setting the date. However, when pushing a recording over to my Mac, I found the date to be incorrect. Well, I will have to leave it in the default setting. Also, using it as a USB microphone on my Mac works fine while using it on my iPhone 14 in the app Just Press Record is not working yet, neither as an audio input in the Camera app. Maybe I'll find a way around this as this was the reason I purchased this recorder. Again, many thanks for your video.
Just so everyone knows the help screen actually brings up a QR code so you can just scan it on your phone and access the product page which has a bunch of videos and pDFs. The only problem is the guides have graphics that represent what buttons you need to press instead of telling you which buttons are used for what as I understand it. Jonathan Mosen did an in-depth demonstration of all three recorders in his podcast The Blind Podmaker, which I highly recommend.
I got the Zoom H1N last year. The only minus in my book was no voice guidance like my friend's older Olympus. Since I can see some, it was no big deal to use my phone's magnifier to read the screen. However, this voice guidance is awesome!
Thanks for doing this introduction. do you have more tutorials? Just got my H1 Essential and the second thing I managed to do was turn off the Guide screen reader. Whew. Glad for this tutorial!
I believe the recorders from Zoom released here in 2024 use pre-recorded TTS. The Olympus recorders used pre-recorded clips from a woman that spoke in a British accent for a majority of the recorders. The DM7 was one of the Olympus ones that did use TTS.
@@micahgrauel8770 I mean, it’s obvious. If it sounds like it has a not so clear quality to it, it most likely was pre-recorded. However, the eltrinex probably is the same way, because every time I hear the voice guide on that, I hear a hissing sound in the background, most likely meaning that it was also pre-recorded speech.
Could anyone please tell me how many seconds it takes from turning the device on from cold before you can start the recording? For my old Olympus DS50 it was 5 seconds. For the Eltrinex it's 8 seconds which is a lot. Thank you!
The only problem I see with this recorder is that it did not tell you whether it was paused or unpause that is a small issue that needs to be taken care of, but other than that and the other menues that didn’t speak nice job for the first time of this recorder being released
I love the sound of this recorder. Please make some more videos about it. I might get one. I know exactly what you were talking about with those Olympus ones. Those were my go-to for years, and they were pretty good, but I like this better.
This was a great demonstration video. I might look for and or try to get one of those zoom recorders. but I might get the more advanced one. Could you do demonstration videos of the other zoom recorters? Hope this makes sense.
Thank you! Maybe I missed it but can I record in MP3 on Zoom H1 Essential? Regardless a 128gb sd card should be good. Also wondering if you know of good lithium battery to try?
I was also wondering this. I typically like to record an MP3, because they are smaller than WAV files, but if I can't record an MP3 with this, then there might be no point for me to put down any money on it.
@@musicalmaycie Fortunately though, if you use one, you should be able to record for quite a few hours without any issue, thanks to the larger storage of SD cards
I understand this recorder cannot record in MP3 format at all, it only records 32 bit float audio in Wave format. I understand you can export the audio recordings you make to 16 bit wave or 24 bit wave, but you can't export to MP3. If you want to make MP3 files from recordings you make on this recorder, you'll need to do that using audio editing software.
To bad about no feedback for pause while recording. I understand why. Don't want beeps in the recording. Still, would be frustrating to miss something because I pressed pause and didn't know it. Can you tell if it's paused while recording? It doesn't have to beep, just mute headphone monitoring during pause to let us know. Beep would be better.
cool. have my dm720 for about 5 years now, but the USB connection seems to be acting funny now when I connect to my computer when I transfer files. guess over time it seems to tries to connect and disconnect when showing the folders. very annoying. lol.
@@micahgrauel8770 Oh...wow. I didn't know that. People are total idiots for asking for devices that can be rechargeable so they don't have to buy and use a separate charger. People.... absolute idiots!
@@thesocialartsclub9095 coming from someone who owns this recorder, I think that’s the main downfall about it. Also I wish that the rechargeable AAA’s you can get could charge in the actual recorder themselves, similar to the Olympus. At least that’s what makes sense to me.
I hope for the people with poor eyesight, the use of a mobile phone, with an AI based app, can improve the Zoom H1 essentials and there will be no need to buy this extra device.
One of the best best best reviews on TH-cam, wish I would’ve found this months back, I love this recorder so much, really appreciate you
Well done thank you!

Does anyone know if the microphone jack has phantom power (for condenser mics)? Thanks in advance. BTW, thanks for the demo. Nice job.
can you do a video of showing the update firmware process on the zoom h1 e and the micro sd card? thanks.

There's a hold position on the power slider that sets all buttons out of function, so no unwanted pauses...
