Man, I grew up so poor I couldn't even afford the yearbook. I could barely buy the pack with the graduation gown and such. These kids today are something else.

Just because you're against a genocidal army doesn't mean you're anti-Semitic because they happen to be Jewish. But at the same time my high school never had any type of essays like this in our yearbook. It was school photos and then clubs and sports and Senior superlatives and photos from homecoming and prom. That was it.

No, it's not about that, it's about content that belongs in a yearbook and content that doesn't. If this person wanted to publish their opinion piece it belongs in the school newspaper and not the Yearbook. You obviously have no clue what yearbooks are for...there to preserve our memories of the time we spent in school, not for political rhetoric. And no, you're definitely not a scholar since you know so little.

Describing this as a free-speech issue is as nonsensical as the decision to place this political essay in the yearbook. Comes across as someone using a yearbook of all things as an opportunity to force-feed ideology to other students and their families. Incredible that this decision was able to get cleared and approved. It's not about free speech, its about respect, and choosing the appropriate mode, time, and place. Teacher(s) who thought this was a good idea have a screw loose in the head.

Yeah good luck with that at a private workplace or a school. See if you can say bigoted or offensive things to your peers at your job and not get suspended or fired, Mr. Freedom of Speech. FoS only exists in a public place, and even there you might face consequences for speaking your opinion. Most business and a lot of schools are privately owned, meaning they can control what you can or cannot say.

What was the school board thinking? What was the positive outcome of such a one sided view of such an article, bulling, harassment and division ? This article should have been in the school newspaper so kids with opposing views could debate it. This article does not belong in any high school yearbook. It has nothing to do with free speech.
