    PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU COMMENT. When we went to get pizza and when I went to the gym we were past the quarantine and contagious period. We didn't leave our apartment until after we were both in the clear. Jonas didn't get his taste and smell back for a very long time. That doesn't mean he was still contagious that entire time.

    That someone as fit and young as her can get pneumonia from the virus is a testament to how serious it really is.

    • @mw9686
      @mw9686 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mykayla is no just “fit”, she is an elite athlete which is a whole different ball game. Elite athletes are likely to experience a compromised immune systems due to their intense, regular training loads. Their training may compromise their resistance illnesses. Heaps of peer reviewed studies on this and just one of the reasons why the Olympic athletes deserved prioritised vaccines, they are vulnerable!

    • @stevel9627

      Its a virus we still dont know much about. Theres a reason why some scientist are now pointing to the lab leak theory being legit since its showing signs of a virus that has features of other known viruses. I remember reading one quote by one that said his biggest fear being a scenario similar to the 80's during the HIV pandemic where it wasnt until years later that people started showing symptoms in people who previously had none

You’ve always been polite and kind online. I met you at 2019 NCAAS and you were very sweet. I actually have a picture of you cooing over my son who was about 5 months old at the time. I hope you're feeling better but as a physician, I just want to tell you that this virus can really hang on and not to push yourself too hard because it won't speed up your recovery (also, going to the gym didn't give you pneumonia; there is nothing you did to cause it.) It can take weeks to feel normal after this virus. Just take your time because pushing it will not work. Remember - 3 months you got back into elite shape so go SLOW now.

    I have said this before and I will say it again. Mykayla's comeback is very important to a pressing paradigm shift in the gymnastics landscape (same for Chellsie Memmel). She is an adult married woman who is pursuing her sports career in gymnastics and pushing to reach to the highest level. Regardless of the outcome, it sets the right example. Much of the horrible USAG problems uncovered in recent years were worsened due to the young age of the athletes who were competing for team USA. These athletes did not have the mental structure to identify emotional and physical abuse and speak out. Of course the main responsibility should be on the adults in charge, but if the athletes were older and more mature perhaps things could have been different. Also it speaks volumes to longevity in the sport. How many juniors were burned out and pushed through injuries because they and their coaches felt they needed to make it by 16 or 18? Ohashi, Flately, are just some examples. If gymnasts felt they have more time, the management of their careers would probably be safer for their health. Mykayla is showing that it is possible to go from elite to NCAA and then come back to elite and foster a career as an adult. As a viewer, I also think it is more interesting to watch older athletes that bring big skills but also life experience and that fans of the sport can relate to. Best of luck!

      People are so quick to judge and make nasty, uninformed comments! It’s both annoying and idiotic quite frankly! COVID is contagious for only 1 week; the symptoms can last long afterwards, months in fact. Some people die (people who already have medical issues AND healthy people), for some it’s like a mild flu, some bounce back after a few days; others are affected for months. There are also people who never fully recover their health. So, she’s not minimizing COVID and she’s not careless. For those of you who really want to judge her, then judge Simone (who I love) and her training contingency too…she said her gym was shut down at first but then the elites were allowed to keep training. The people hating on Myk here didn’t like her in the first place, so haters gonna hate anyway - it’s quite simple: just stay off her channel!

    Thanks for sharing sweetie! Glad your feeling better. One of the reasons I have been harping on doing a video on head injury awareness is because head injuries can damage the blood brain barrier making you more susceptible to infections spreading into the brain. That is not just true for COVID but any infection like pneumonia. All the medical research shows that head injuries, infections, lesions etc. in the brain are major factors in homelessness, abuse, suicidality and aberrant behavior. This information can save many lives including your own. Please take brain health seriously. These little girls look up to you. Come on you got this 😉.

    Ugg poor thing. I just want to give you a hug. I can just see how hard this year has been on you. Keep moving forward. Look into a lung exercising machine called a Aerobika Oscillating Positive Expiratory Pressure Therapy System. You can use it while you watch TV and it will help with getting back your lung capacity and fitness.

    I know this is a late comment but just wanted to say that I understand and I commend you for going back to gymnastics and seeing how well you are doing because COVID can really make it hard to get back to “normal” life let alone back to elite gymnastics.
    Im so glad you two, and your families are doing better. I was positive for COVID back in November. Mine started with severe nausea. I then started to get a fever, green beans and broth tasted the same, my fever was 103.5, and then started having trouble breathing, then couldn’t keep anything down. I was so scared because I have other medical issues .. postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS)and a couple autoimmune disorders. I lost about 30-40lbs in the two weeks I was sick, ugh it was the sickest I had ever been. I had to go the the ER where they gave me dexamethasone IV, twice, they did a chest X-ray and I too had bilateral pneumonia. I contracted while at a small salon, took my mask off for five minutes and the hair dresser and I were positive but across the small space the mani-pedicure and my mom weren’t positive and thank good my parents didn’t get it and they were helping me so much because with my POTS, I was so weak. I was diagnosed with lasting COVID symptoms with the pneumonia. I got a chest x-ray three months ago and my doctor thinks I still have pneumonia but I also have scar tissue. I still feel like I have COVID without the fever but many other “COVID” symptoms

    When I had covid I lost my smell, but not my taste. I had chills, fever, and slept a lot. It also attacked my lungs and gave me bronchitis. I had to get an inhaler to help. Stay strong! Get well soon!

    Let your body heal. I had the same situation in February last year ending up in the hospital with pneumonia. I was supposed to see a cardiologist also after I got home. I put that off to long so I had to have a phone visit. I just wanted to get over the pneumonia first. They were not even testing for Covid at the time but my Dr thinks I had covid. It has taken me a long time to start feeling normal and get my energy back. Please be kind to yourself and body as it takes time. On another note, I’ve been wondering how you are doing after the PRP therapy. Any side effects or issues since the injection? Stay well and good luck.

    I had covid in January, very mild... and was cleared 10 days after onset. However, ever since I went back to work I've felt very run down, lingering headaches, body aches, etc. Finally broke down after about 6 weeks and went to the doctor. She sent me for a chest x-ray and turns out I have mild pneumonia and "ground glass" opacities. Hopefully on the mend now, but even a mild case can be serious!
