Thanks Dan,This was fantastic.I was born in 1956, so all my memories of the 60s and 70s music and especially The Beatles are great.I miss those times so much.
@@MoviesMusicMonsters No other band compares to The Beatles. John, Paul, George and Ringo were unique and their songs were top notch. If I had to pick my favorite Beatles song it would have to be, Hard days night.

Visiting Abbey Road Studios and sitting inside studio 2 was otherworldly for me - almost an out of body experience. I was lucky enough to be in London at the same time a Beatles lecture series was taking place in November 2021. Right place, right time. Climbing the stairs to the control room ... seeing all the original equipment ... simply amazing, and I agree it's too bad more people can't experience it. Fun fact: I went to high school, and was college roommates for one year with, the CEO of Avid Technologies - maker of Pro Tools. We lost touch years ago, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's been there - we were both huge Beatles fans and drove to L.A. to see Beatlemania while still in HS in '78.
Thank you Dan, that was awesome. To see it from a fans perspective instead of a documentary is even cooler. I was born February 6th 1964. I guess I was racing the plane coming in from London on February 7th! I'm a lifelong Beatles fan, and the city I live in in New Jersey is actually the hometown of Paul's current wife. A couple of years ago, he was wandering downtown about 5 mi from where I live. Talk about missing an opportunity in my own backyard! But again thank you for that fun trip to Abbey Road Studios
Alan Parsons was the sound engineer on the Beatles album Abby Road also engineered Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. He, of course, went on to put together one great recording career himself.
I was 17 when Mark Lewisohn released his Complete Beatles Recording Sessions book and got it for Christmas. I spent so many hours poring over every little detail and listening to the songs while reading about how they were made. It's such an incredibly interesting and valuable book
Hey there :-) yeah, it's a great book but even Mark Lewisohn himself feels this outdated. He's including a lot of the newly updated information in his huge Trilogy of books.
One other reason to visit, is not so much to cross the pelican crossing BUT to watch the reaction of drivers as the almost endless number of people cross the road on the only grade 2 listed road crossing in the entire UK. Expect expletives :)
"Wish You Were Here" was also recorded at Abbey Road. During the recoding a guy walked with no eyebrows and overweight. The members of Pink Floyd didn't know who he was. Then after a time Richard Wright asked who that was and it was Sid Barrett. One of the original members of the band. They had not see him in years, last time he was skinny and had eyebrows. It hit them all hard on how much their friend had changed, even Roger Waters started to cry.
Dan: First, I am SO appreciative of your humble attitude upon your invitation into Abby Road. Most TH-camrs would say "It's about time I got in here." Thanks for the incredible access!
While I was just a kid growing up in the 60's (born 59) I really remember the Beatles. I can remember the time just before and once they hit the air waves everything changed. I can remember when their newest albums came out and started being played on the local AM radio. I also recall the news when it was announced they were breaking up. Always wished they could have produced one more album together but that was forever ended in 79. While I am not a musician in any way, I always am curious on how they old songs were recorded. Just as you talked about the modern offerings for the classic sound effects, they just aren't the same as what they used back then. Good video, and anymore Beatles content would "be so cool" to watch one day.
Born in London, 1944, during WWII, last there for 2 weeks in July 2013, and the surrounding areas, from Earl's Court. Saw wherevI lived, Park West, near Edwere Road above Marble Arch. My parents came to NYC in 1949 on the Queen Mary, and first back in 1979 with my parents. Now 80 years old, and a USAF Disabled American Veteran, and remember the Beatles arrival to NYC in 1964, while starting college. Cheers. 😊
I was fortunately invited in a few years ago by two kind employees and given a wonderful but brief tour. Also could not take photographs. Thanks for this.
Ah!!! I'm so jealous! I visited London in 1988 and made it as far as getting my picture taken at the entrance of Abbey Road at the top of those iconic steps (and I still treasure it), but could not make it inside, even though I was in radio at the time. This sort of makes up for it. Love all the photos and stories and you got a couple of songs mastered at Abbey Road! Are you kidding me? Thanks for the tour, Dan! Well done!
Dan. Here is a suggestion for a video What ever happened to Dr. Demento. For those who might not know who this zany person is Dr. Demento born as Barret Eugene Hansen is the only DJ who played novelty records on the radio and introduced Weird Al Yankovick to the world
Thanks Dan. I was born in 1957. As a kid, I lived in St John’s Wood for a while. I’d go past the studios often. Occasionally I’d see band members from Beatles, Pink Floyd etc. going in and out. Lords cricket ground is close by too. Another legendary place. How cool is that! 😁
I've been outside the Abbey Road Studio which was pretty damn cool. Walked over the zebra crossing. I'm glad you got to look inside. You're a lucky guy.
As a life long Beatle fan literally for 60 years, this would be like visiting a shrine. A unique view behind the scenes and info I never knew. Thanks Dan.
Not a die-hard Beatless fan but I do enjoy their music and the new tricks they did on each album. Paul is my favorite and he really opened up when he started WINGS. Ringo and George also made songs I still like. But there is no denying what they did for music and how a little studio was part of it.
Such an awesome and unique adventure. While not especially a Beatles fan, I would have reveled in a tour of what was then EMI simply for the fact that John Barry recorded many of his film scores here, including several of the James Bond scores.
Hi Dan. Awesome tour. I’m a photographer and had the privilege to spend a week in studio 2 doing documentary photography for Alexander Kariotis and the Rock Opera Orchestra. I was in awe as soon as I walked in the building. So much history there. It was amazing to see all that vintage gear just sitting in the hallways. Standing in Studio 2 had a familiar feeling to it. It looked just it did in all those Beatles documentaries I’ve seen over the years. I really love your channel. So many topics hit a cord with me. Keep up the awesome work! Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
That’s the kind of experience that most of us mere mortals can only dream about! Last time I was in London I had quite an extensive tour of the Abbey Road studios….parking lot 😊
You should do a short video on last night’s episode of Doctor Who entitled “The Devil’s Chord”. It takes place mostly inside EMI Studios during the time when the Beatles recorded their first album.
Brilliant report Dan! I’m a Yank living in the U.K… never been to Abbey Road, but you’ve got me chomping at the bit now! Must make a visit after all these years. Cheers!
