Adding 268 MORE horsepower to a '93 F-150: Engine Swap Pt.1

  • We're kicking off a new phase of this project truck: it's a 1993 Ford F-150 SIngle Cab Short Box, and right now its powered by a 200hp 351w V8. At 5.8 liters, this ford was powerful in 1993, but it's nowhere enough for what the owner wants to do with it today. This is going to be an off road centered "prerunner" style build with long travel suspension, superduty axles, and a whole lot more power. Were ADDING 268 MORE horsepower to this truck, which will bring the total to 468hp and 507 lb.ft. which should make this thing scoot in a hurry. That means a new engine is going in place, but the question is which one? Of course, the LS is a popular choice, but we want to keep this thing all Ford, but we need some more cubes and more power.

I have two main questions, question number one is what you're going to do about the fuel system. I have a mild Big block in my F350 and tried to reuse the stock EFI fuel system and it can't seem to keep up and I'm only making somewhere around 320 horse.
My second question is why the owner went with TBI instead of a multi-port setup since you're already investing in aftermarket EFI anyway? I know the small block Fords have a good selection of really good flowing fuel injected intakes and it seems like multiport is a far superior system to throttle body injection for efficiency and cylinder to cylinder distribution. As far as I'm aware when I bought my Terminator x system it was the same exact price as the sniper setup but I could be wrong, it's been quite a while now.

I will be glued to this build. I have a 96 bronco I've been wanting to do more changes on. Are you going to be running the stock trans?

If you’re building a pre-runner why are you doing a solid axle swap? It already has the dana 44 TTB and there’s multiple kits available with 18+ inches of travel off the shelf. Unless you’re wanting to build a multipurpose vehicle that can rock crawl and go fast in the desert.

Giant Motorsports has some slick TTB and Twin I beam kits.

Trucks were still flat tappet, let me know if that factory 5.8 will be for sale

This is a 93, the 94-97 blocks had hydraulic roller provisions even if they were flat tappet equipped.

Lol my dad did that with his 48 ford it only had like 70 horse power he fixed it by yanking out the old flatty and stuffing in a Buick 333 nail head driving the hp to 220hp even with the old Rochester 4bbl it flew by everything and surprisingly even gas stations too
