This worked like a charm. I was trying to reconnect to a new router after having moved to a new apartment. Did the reset, followed by holding down the WPS button on my router and the push button on the back of the printer. After a few seconds, a page should print out the new connection. I hope that helps anyone stuck trying to do the same thing.
Tutorial starts at 0:22 and ends at 1:00 1. Open up top front panel. 2. Turn on power switch WHILE holding green GO button. 3. Three lights should be lit, let go of the GO button. 4. Press GO button 10 times in succession. 5. Close cover. 6. Press GO one last time.
Oh my god! I've tried everything and nothing made sense - turning power off and then holding Go button - but your directions were PERFECT!!! Turn power on WHILE holding green GO button, etc.! Amazing. Kisses and hugs!!!
Hi, very informative video. It worked up to point. I have a Brother HL 2040. I did as you did in your video but all that happened was that after I closed the front panel, and click the 'GO' button again, the printer goes into warm up mode , the Yellow light goes on for the drum and toner and the rollers start rolling and doesn't stop. When I tape on the 'GO' button the red light make a clicking sound for every tap but nothing happens except the rollers in the back and top just keep rolling and the Yellow toner and drum stay lit. I have to unplug it and repeat it over but the same thing happens Thanks It went from all lights on till just the problem I have now so I know something progressed
Your reset does not clear the static IP address set on my 2nd hand HL-2270DW printer. Sharing what I found.... Actual factory reset (clears IP address settings) is: (1) Turning the printer off (2) Holding down the "GO" button and turning the printer on (3) Keep holding it down until the top three printer lights come on (Toner/Drum/Error) (4) Release the "GO" button (5) Press the "GO" button 6 times in succession Also to print out Printer Status (3 pages): Press the "GO" button 3 times in succession The default password for using BRAdmin is "Access"
I’ve got a 2340dw - not used for a while but turned it on & am getting maintenance 4 error. Tried trouble shooting tips but buttons are all non responsive- any ideas what is wrong or is it ready for the scrap heap?
Brother printer "Error 4 Unable to Print" error usually refers to a mechanical error somewhere in the printer. Remove the toner and drum and see if there is anything in the way/ Also, try spinning the rollers on the drum and toner to make sure they are not stuck. That may cause the error. Check the back of the printer where fuser is and see if there may besomething thre or out of place. DO NOT TOUCH ANY ROLLERS WITH BARE HANDS. Hands will leave skin oils and cause print quality distorion. Use clean disposable gloves.
You may need to do a few things, if you are using ethernet, watch the back lights at the port when the printer resets and the lights dont turn on next to the ethernet cable then it didn't reset correctly. I had to do the toner then unit reset for the ethernet to turn back on. update The printer will default to wireless after some firmware updates and the ethernet port will be turned off !! If the ethernet port is turned off try the above and if that doesn't work do the following; Turn off the power to the printer, hold down the GO button and continue to hold it down while you turn on the power to the printer, when the 3 lights on top of the printer turn on, release the GO button and then press the GO button six times, the printer will reset.
I concur on this - about firmware update messing up printer. at some point when I upgraded firmware on my HL-2270DW printer, afterwards it hadn't be able to stay connected to network anymore via ethernet to my router. finally I had enough and got around and called Brother for troubleshoot, they told me to print test page showing its settings, it has both ethernet and wifi enabled :o , by pressing 'Go' button 6 six times seem to reset network, with only ethernet connection active, however a few hours later it got disconnected from home network again. this time I did factory reset according to this video, followed by tuner reset, drum reset; it seems to fix the problem, 2 days later at time of writing, the printer is still connected to my home network.
I turned off the printer during while it was printing, and now it shows error light. I tried resetting, but it didn't help. Do you know how I could fix this?
Did you check all paper passageways to make sure that there is no paper anywhere? Pull the toner out, check there, and open the back door of the printer where the fuser is and also check there. Then restart the printer. Off, then on.
Unfortunately, this did not work for me. I have an HL-2240 and right after I press the Go button 3 times it never resets and attempting to press the Go button after never lights up the Go button anymore. My PC restarted during a firmware upgrade .😔 Ever since any time I turn off wait 8 secs turn on the printer again none of the lights come on but for a 1⁄2 sec and the printer never makes any startup sounds. At least with the factory reset attempts, I can get lights on the display, just never restarts.
I pushed the cancel button too strongly to try to tell it to stop printing so may have hurt that button so now it is on error/paper, but I fixed the paper already. It still is not working.

Make sure you are selecting the correct printer. There may be 2 of the same printer model installed on your computer and only one of them is going to be the one that you have. What is the error message?
I have followed these instructions four (4) times. Each time the printer starts again, but states the printer is disconnected. The first time I pulled out the USB connector and put it back in. STill not connected. I tried this three more time, making sure I did not move the printer so as to not disconnect it. Nothing changes. anyone have any additional ideas? Thanks
