How sharp is it? Couldn't sharpen it all the way with the gold inlay almost to the edge. I wouldn't be surprised to find some of these that people have sharpened into the gold without a care in the world for how beautiful the knife is.
"Bıçak" in modern Turkish. Literal translation is indeed "Knife" btw. Also, using anything other than a leather strop to clean the edge is indeed a crime for these ceremonial pieces.
