Dr. J vs HOU, 1977 Eastern Conference Finals, Game 5

The 1st year following the NBA-ABA Merger saw the Philadelphia 76ers hosting the Houston Rockets in the Eastern Conference Finals. The 76ers, led by league MVP "Dr. J" are up 3 games to 1, and attempting to clinch a berth in the NBA Finals (against Bill Walton's Blazers). But closing out the Rockets is no easy task. This video will highlight the plays that Julius Erving made for Philly during his attempt to clinch a berth in the NBA Finals.

Julius took a step back when he went to the NBA to play for the 76ers, due to teammates, the coach… but in that same season when it came to Playoff time? The Dr went to work! He really showed what prime (ABA) Doc was about, leading them all the way to the Finals, playing some amazing basketball. Doug Collins was great but McGinnis (RIP) really underperformed through that run…

Took 6 less shots a game in Philly. Was more of a point forward in ABA. They didn't want him getting 30-35 a game.

​@@scottdavidson9963World Free ain't letting any teammates get 30 PPG or so. He wasn't interested in passing or distributing. He was out to get his. And McGinnis too, at times.
George was also an ABA MVP and seemed determined to prove why.
