I don't know how old you are, but the president can suspend a governor and even the State House of Assembly, through declaration of state of emergency in the state, to confirm this, please check or google the declaration of emergency rule in Plateau state, Nigeria in May 20004 by President Obasanjo.
@@jimniran2567 state of emergency isn't the same as the president suspending a governor. The terms are clearly stated. Let me also remind you that during a state of emergency, rights and freedoms of individuals may be suspended also. So everyone is affected not just a governor. The president doesn't say he has suspended the governor but it's an act that is done due to insecurity, medical pandemic etc. On the other hand, the governor doesn't have that power to a LG chairman. We know the differences but we always want to be mischievous. Lastly, questions like these have nothing to do with age. Resources are everywhere with no cost. I am not a gen Z
Why is it so difficult for the local government chairmen to account for the monies they received? The grassroots is under developed even though there are elected people to do this, it calls to question why have local government councilors and chairmen if they cannot do their jobs. Thanks Emwanta for making the law clear on this issue.
Adaze is a lier. He has turned himself to another Lier Mohamed I live in the US. Please give me an example of where a mayor of a city was suspended by a governor Is the 1999 Nigerian constitution the same as the US Constitution? This young man does not think of his future
I think Barrister Emwanta has established correctly that the action of the governor in this matter is absolutely legal and that the intention is for a better Edo state. Accountability is a key part of governance without which development will be far fetched. Kudos barrister Emwanta!!! Keep up the good work
I don't understand these baseless arguments. The Local Government Chairmen should submit their statement of accounts. Is it their personal accounts or public accounts?
God you Barrister Emwanta for explaining both provisions of the Constitution and the Edo State Local Government Law on the issue. Andrew is always on point.
Suspension is not removal! Valid point. Unlimited freedom without accountability of the local government chairman fall short of the provisions of the constitution. I will advise parties to have a sit down and put their house in order. Good governance at all level in Edo state is paramount.
We must commend Emwanta for shedding light on this critical issue. The real question is: why are local government chairmen so resistant to transparency? We often lament that the country is not working, but how can it when those at the grassroots level-closest to the people-fail to meet expectations? For meaningful development to take place, we must implement robust checks and balances to hold them accountable.
My dear sister God bless you richly for your unbiased submission. These suspended Chairmen were busy using local funds to settle their leaders in PDP, including paying for their Tribunal lawyers fees.
@@AfricanLawyers where is your proof they were using the money to pay for tribunal? It really shows some of you are educated illiterates. Local government chairmen have no immunity, so if they are found wanting with their funds EFCC can go after them. Not an illiterate governor that can’t read a budget , how would he know how they spent their money?🤷🏿😂🤣
What a great submission and a welcome development! Because the local government chairmen in Edo are nothing but a joke with nothing to show since assuming office 🏬
It is the electorates who has the absolute power to decides whether to reelection the said Local Council Chairman or not when their tenure elapsed, and if they has been found to misappropriate or embezzlement the allocated funds in their disposal, then they could be indicted, persecuted by the appropriate authorities, not one semi-illiterate jackboot imposed governor. Every tier of government must have its autonomy, which what it is now, and no amount of twisting the facts can give credence to the political vendetta that is obviously playing out.

You can't suspend LG chairmen, just like the President can't suspend you as a governor. No amount of spokesmen can change that
The Edo State Law was posted by the Channels tv presented to educate people like you.
