Since no one else did, I looked it up. It's the Pyloric Caeca. A digestive organ, though the actual function of it is a mystery. No one seems to know exactly what it does. Here is the most confident definition I found. The pyloric caeca increase the overall intestinal absorptive surface area, and thus the absorption efficiency of nutrients of the gastrointestinal tract. Exciting huh?

Being born and raised here in SE Florida we grew up fishing and camping mostly in the 10,000 Islands out of Flamingo, Chokoloskee and the Keys then later on in the Atlantic. Great memories and I know Gabes two boys will remember these days fondly. The one thing I never did growing up was go hunting. I would have love to have done that. Thankfully my son is hunting now and teaching his young kids. He just bought his first boat an older Mako 21.1. S I happy for him and ad he is carrying on that family tradition along with a new one of hunting.

That is the Pyloric Caeca of the fish it is an appendage that secrete enzymes and provide additional digestive areas to the intestine.
It’s pretty odd looking. Kinda like cooked ray meat.

The function of the pyloric caeca of fish has been uncertain since their detailed description in 345 B.C. by Aristotle. He suggested three hypotheses about their function: "to store up the food," "putrify it up," and "concoct it" (i.e., storage, fermentation, and digestion). Our results for trout, cod, largemouth bass, and striped bass support the third but not the first or second of Aristotle's theories. In all four species, the caeca prove to be a major site of sugar, amino acid, and dipeptide uptake, contributing more uptake than the entire remaining alimentary tract in trout and cod. Caecal brush-border membranes contain hydrolytic enzymes. X-ray plates taken at various times after trout had ingested radioopaque marker, and observations of trout fed blue dye plus glass beads of graded sizes, show that caeca fill and empty of food with the same time course as proximal intestine. Thus, whereas the caeca of mammals and birds serve as fermentation chambers, fish caeca are an adaptation to increase gut surface area. Parts is parts.

Hey kelly, a little tip to catch the speedos use 6 to 8 lb test anything more they see it and dont eat as well. Also a very small panfish hook to. You can use this trick on ballyhoo and they will be alive all day in your live well. Small chunk half the size of your nail works great.
Thumbnail with a girl in a bikini. Everyone else on the boat is wearing sweats. Drive the traffic but if someone comments on the hot chick they are the problem. I guess you can have your cake and eat it too. 1/4 million people have nothing better to do than this? Shame.

When diving in Grand Cayman, my husband brought cheese wiz with him, and squirted all around him and the fish went crazy. I couldn’t see him through the fish!
Oh yes people do that in Islamorada at alligator reef !! All the fish love it
We did that in Hawaii with a fruit cake!! It was crazy!! Also, we have used sweet peas, they all come out of their hiding spots for some peas & fruit cake!!!

One of my most memorable nights fishing was with some Cuban guys out of Marathon, we filled the chest with yellow tails! You should have seen everyone jumping up the ladder and out of the pit when a shark pulled the handline spool out of my hands and was skittering around in the boat! Nobody wanted that line to get around their leg and pull them over!

You guys be careful rinsing off your hands over the side of the boat . Back in late 70's 78 or 79...a buddy of mine was off shore fishing 🎣 in N.Carolina...leaned over and rinsed off his hands...Came up with a ring finger.. a pinky finger and the side of his hand missing. Barracuda was hanging out underneath the boat in the shade. Was his left hand and they believe the sunlight flashed off of his wedding 💍 ring...causing the Barracuda to strike. Went in the water with 4 fingers and a thumb...came out with 2 fingers and a thumb. [So watch out with jewelry rings and watches]
Tourniquet....elevate and ice in a towel. Like Bluegabe always says...the ocean is no joke and can be unforgiving. Just lost a diver last week off Jacksonville. However, don't live in fear...just be ready for it, and aware.

Just to add I believe that organ/part of the fish intestine is like the villi (which is like an anemone and helps absorbs the good nutrients) which we know the process is digestion then absorption then elimination. Although in fish the villi or that part is very undetermined unlike in human anatomy.

Kelly, if you like watermelon, try to find some FL grown melons. With how dry of a year we had, all the melons grown near Lake O are absolutely delicious. When growing, if they get too much water they just get watery but not sweet. With the drought, I'm sure the farmers gave them perfect water amounts and they are so freakin sweet this year.
