Think you Chad . I am a knee shield player by necessity .I am 54 and just got my black belt. 8 years ago i had my left hip replaced .because of this i was forced to play either closed guard . Which is limited for me or a hlf guard and knee shield game .G-roll , dogfight , deep half , lock down are all in the arsenal .However I never ever thought to attack the legs from this position ..I am thoroughly impressed and very grateful to you for sharing this . Thank you . Ossssss
Rey G - I’m thoroughly impressed with you getting your black belt at 54! I’m currently a skinny, 41 year old white belt. So, from where I’m sitting, that is a great accomplishment. I’ll remember that when I’m getting crushed by these big young guys. Hopefully one day I’ll get there too.
@@samphillips7194 unfortunately I stopped training once pandemic hit. Tried doing the zoom thing for a year with my kids. Then when things opened back up it got very busy with 4 kids in soccer and me coaching two of them. I still watch jiu jitsu videos but haven’t made it a priority to train. As it has been in the back of my mind. Been thinking of getting at least my sons back in it at the start of next school year. I’m glad you messaged. Got me thinking more about it. Oss.
We have the same body type... I am tall and skinny like you with long legs. Have been training in gi since last August.. Just went to a no gi practice and sparred no gi for my first time, and got my ass kicked. Realized how much I really don't know without gi. It is a whole different battle, and it felt very unnatural to me. After watching this video, I feel I have a better understanding of no gi, and a new move I can use. Thanks homie, you earned a subscriber!
when you swing wide over the top is there a trick to clear the guys arm that you're going over. meaning (to stop him using that hand and arm from seperating your knees)
Thanks, Chad. Is there a backup plan in case the guy reacts to the arm going under and around his leg by sprawling or just straightening the leg back? I often get that reaction in the beginning. Am I telegraphing it too much? What do you do if that happens?
Awesome video, thanks so much! I've tried this a few times and it's been working great. What do you do if your training partner tucks the foot you're trying to pull under his butt then sits with his weight onto the foot you're trying to grab? That's happened to me a few times...
Remo Heugh for an example watch the video at 1:24 this is one way to deal with them tucking that foot in. I just bumped him with my hips and pulled out on his knee with two hands to get him to fall over. This will off balance your training partner and make them fall to their hip so you can start attacking the legs. Hope this helps!
When I was doing this it felt like I had no control over the persons body/ stopping them from just stacking into you csuse theres no foot on the hip- id love to see how you control them without the foot on hip
Ed McGuigan i would say 45% triangles. 35% leglocks 20% armlocks. Just off the top of my head haha it really just depends on what I’m looking for that day.
What level guys are you getting this on? Seems like that guy you got it on over and over knew little basic butterfly defense. Who would stay up like that when you have the z guard?
Is it possible for him to jerk you into your neck. Looks like a neck injury position if the opponent over compensates towards the side of your head. Anyone?
I thought as much, I often find myself in that position. It's strange I haven't found anyone showing this entry into inside sankaku. It really opens up the half guard game: take the back, kimura, leg attacks, etc.
Yo I was trying this today against a dude that was much better than me. He would kill it by just smashing forward. I would still have the grip on his leg but he would pretty much be sitting heavy on it. Am I just not creating enough space and keeping him off balance by not pushing his head away enough?
myk702 yup, you have to really create space by pushing off his head. Otherwise they can crush you down and pass. That hand on the neck/shoulder will save you. also watch and see that I am scooting my hips back when I push away to I have the room to throw my leg over. Hope this helps you out🤙
BJJ is such that there are always liabilities or counters. Even counters to counters and so on. For example you purposefully put yourself in a what is called a dope mount position (which sucks quite much) and if the opponent is very versed in it they can make your life miserable. However your speed, inversion, reaching for the heal and such play a huge factor in pulling off this move quite effectively. In conclusion, I would always recommend getting out of your comfort zone and practice. This is a very good and sneaky move.
Ethereal Entity I think it's obvious that a lot of the moves we see BJJ players do these days wouldn't work in MMA or settings that involve striking. However, for sport BJJ and rolling this move works great.
I didn't hear anywhere in the video a mention of MMA. But it was nice of you to point it out just in case. Also, if you were so good in this move (which would mean effective and fast) I see no reason not to pull it off in MMA. Look at what Ryan Hall is doing in MMA. People said leg locks or 50/50 wouldn't work. Yet he is proving them wrong
I love how Adam pops in for 5 seconds with his comment!
Same, I highly enjoy seeing Adam

loving the series for the tall folks
Yes! Keep these types of videos coming!
This set up is nice! Thanks for sharing
I was watching this for research and I had completely forgotten that I was the one who operated the camera. I was shocked to see my big head pop up 😂
My two favorite thing so far, half guard knee shields and leg locks. 😍🤘🏼🔥
love these videos im a 6'2 208lbs white belt and find these very useful
Haha I liked the camera mans sense of humor, cheers really enjoyed that its opening my vision more
Thanks for your great instructions
Thanks for this! I never thought of going from knee shield like that!
Wouldn’t the SAL be considered knee reaping?

How has the journey went so far brotha. I’m in a similar position but I prefer no gi 😂
Great series
Man I love this setup! I just got my blue belt so no kneebars yet but I got the straight ankle on another blue belt the first try. Awesome stuff!
You’re a great teacher that always keeps it entertaining. I’m always anticipating the next video. Thank you
Thank you bro 💪
Do one in gi please!
This is getting added to my game. Thank you 🙇🏽♂️
Beautiful
This is fantastic, thankyou!
Lmao at Adam!
Beautiful!

Thanks for the video Chad. Seems like you are getting more comfortable with the camera and it's upping the quality of the videos.
Taths so great!!
This shit with adam is gold
Cheers for the vid chad I will be sure to use this knee shield series in my csw classes

Thank you for the video.
When you told Adam , he would be in your Channel, this is not what i had in mind, lol
Would it be classed as reaping ending in that stright foot lock position
Reaping is to the _inside_!
You're a beast kid ✊👊 keep up the hard work !!
This is gold. Thank you!
Appreciate it chad! Good stuff

Thanks for the details and breakdown Chad. I’m gonna experiment with this. You’re a beast!
Thanks
my issue with the leg scoop is they keep sprawling out, what can you do if once you get that lock over and scoop they sprawl out?
When I was doing this it felt like I had no control over the persons body/ stopping them from just stacking into you csuse theres no foot on the hip- id love to see how you control them without the foot on hip
Yeah he gives up way too much space without controlling them first. Craig jones does a good breakdown of this, calls it Z guard something
this has been my go to move for awhile, once i think i got good at it i will move to something else
Love your smile
Beastlike ❤
1:00 do loads more videos like that but full length videos plz
Thanks, Chad! I’ve been doing this wrong for months! Happy Holidays!👍🏻🥋
Nice
What would you say are your percentages of submissions with leg locks, chokes and arm/shoulder locks?
Ed McGuigan i would say 45% triangles. 35% leglocks 20% armlocks. Just off the top of my head haha it really just depends on what I’m looking for that day.

Pseudo Mortality not a good idea to use this in a real fight he didn't mention that.
Nice 👌 thats my game. Thx 🖐
Is the ankle lock IBJJF legal?
Adam is hilarious
Me a white belt watching this after I just pulled off my first knee bar. 😅 Coming for them knees and ankles baby. I’ll stay away from the heels
Is it possible for him to jerk you into your neck. Looks like a neck injury position if the opponent over compensates towards the side of your head. Anyone?
Hm, possibly. It’s never happened to me before though. Maybe if it was someone really big. I grab the foot before he gets a chance to do so.
In the gi, can you do this move if the guy weave the arm and grab the bottom leg?
gabriel henrique yup, you can👍
🔥🔥🔥🔥
So I've been looking everywhere but I can't seem to find anyone doing this. Can't this same setup be used to set up inside sankaku?
Remo Heugh yup! It works perfect to get into inside sankaku
I thought as much, I often find myself in that position. It's strange I haven't found anyone showing this entry into inside sankaku. It really opens up the half guard game: take the back, kimura, leg attacks, etc.

awesome man! thats what i suspected. Thanks for the quick reply. I'll give it a shot today.
myk702 - how did it go? Still using this move at all?
Se fala pa caralgo confunde agente mano slc.. passa a tecnica de uma so vez
Chad, how tall are you?
I am 6’3
is any part of this illegal in gi?
jmstephe011 depending on your belt level it is all legal
No liabilities right?
Guitar Shredder never!

K guard before it was cool
OSU
Adam......
Poor Adam, lol...
Have pity on Adam!
Poor Adam, he is a hurt soul. Just give him a chance 😂😉👍🏻
Beeaaast
Do not use this in the street this is not gonna help you as a real fighter.
Ethereal Entity I think it's obvious that a lot of the moves we see BJJ players do these days wouldn't work in MMA or settings that involve striking. However, for sport BJJ and rolling this move works great.
Kevan Tovi true but still should be noted.
Ethereal Entity nobody said this was for street fights
TheChickenChaser well mma then.
