    This is great! I also married an Iranian and while she is pretty good about helping me out, she can't always break down the "why's" and I'm annoyingly curious. I'll definitely be following your channel.
    Long and funny story: I actually worked with a Persian professor at the local University in order to translate my wedding vows into Persian. I worked on these for months, and didn't tell anyone in her family, including her. On the day of the wedding I get about halfway through my vows and my wife whispers, "That's not how you say it." My heart sank! I was mortified. So then I turn to the audience and explain what is happening. All of her family members start shouting, "No you are saying it right, she is wrong." She looks at her mom and says, "Mom he's saying the wrong word, and her mom quickly explains that I in fact I was saying it right and she just wasn't familiar with the word I was using." It was honestly the best part of the whole wedding, everyone was laughing and we all talk about it still today.
    Anyway, thank you for putting this channel together, I'm excited to learn more so I can some day speak to her parents completely in Persian.
    Also, quick note, the volume on this video was very low especially compared to the first video.

      Sweet? Funny? I think that’s horrible and sad that she did that. She acted like a brat. Didn’t seem to warm her heart that you went to all that trouble to learn her language to surprise her. All that mattered to her was you said something wrong. And mention it right there to you in front of everyone and even insist to her mother. I guess if you think that her behavior was funny then that’s all that matters. But I find it disturbing and highly insensitive.

    Doesn't Khodāhāfez mean "may god protect you"?

    • @hamedbehniafar3479
      @hamedbehniafar3479 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Yes, it does. Actually, "hāfez" here means protector. In more precise translation "Khodāhāfez" means "may god be your protector". The word "Khodānegahdār" also has the same meaning but it's very formal.

    My mom is from Iran and she did her best to try and teach me and my brother Farsi growing up but being married to a stubborn American AKA my father made it difficult. I've tried off and on throughout my life to learn the language but up until now I've never given it much consideration. I recently went through a divorce because ultimately our two backgrounds weren't compatible. Hers being the distant, American way of growing up barely having a relationship with your family as opposed to mine having a very tight knit, loving family. Being Caucasian in skin complexity and having a very American sounding name, it's always been difficult convincing people about my true heritage and especially making friends with full-blooded Persians who never fully accepted me. I finally want to commit to becoming fluent in Farsi first by being able to have a full on conversation with someone in Farsi. I'll eventually want to learn how to read and write it but that's a whole another challenge! I hope my next wife is Persian or at least half like me and we're able to speak Farsi to each other and teach our kids. I do want to mention that I am a member of The Baha'i Faith and would love to be able to chant Baha'i prayers in Farsi would be a dream come true!

    Had an experience the other day. Sis and I went to The Dollar tree, and in the aisle next to us, I caught a young girl calling her father Ba-Ba, the familiar word for father= to papa in English. They must have been from Iran, but they were out of the store before I had a chance to converse! But it encouraged me to catch the word out of the air. Feylan!

    It is important that you PAUSE when going over the material a second/third time!
    This gives the learner the time to remind herself/himself of the correct words.
