I'm English and growing old. I've felt a connection with Chinese culture since I was a child, but only now is it developing into a near-obsession. The longevity, depth, richness and sophistication is breathtaking, which is why I watched this all the way through even though there were no English subtitles. It was sumptuous.
Cao Siyuan I've long had a suspicion along the same lines. There has been a series on British TV over the past few weeks called 'The History of China.' The presenter visited a 'suburb' of Xi'an, and it looked very familiar to me. I saw a photograph of a mountain range in China many years ago, and felt that I knew it because I'd been there even though I've never been to China. I used to have glimpses of the interior of a building with exposed wooden beams and wooden walls that was lit by oil lamps, and somehow knew it was in China. And there are other example. So yes, you might be right. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the modern, post-Mao China now rediscovering its ancient culture and re-asserting its place as one of the world's leading civilisations? I hope so. Thank you for replying.

My hope is not for dominance or competition by or between east and west, but for mutual respect. (And I do realise that both Europe and Japan exploited China during the latter days of the Qing.)
