  • Different components/causes of interference are :
    i) Allelospoly/competition (which involves the depletion of one or more growth resources between species growing in association in the same habitat).
ii) Allelopathy (release of chemicals by one or more species in the association). It includes allelochemicals/allelochemics, which cause allelopathic influences on the recipient species and allomones, which are none but the allelochemicals offering certain adaptive advantages to the producer plants, e.g. repellents, attractants.
iii) Autotoxicity (toxicity within same species). For example, wheat against wheat (in rotation), green gram against green gram (in rotation), alfalfa against alfalfa (in rotation or in close stand).
Autotoxicity is usually observed in the rotation of same crop. It may also occur simultaneously, but yet to be established. It is a form of allelopathy called autoallelopathy or autotoxicity or autoinhibition, the other form being alloallelopathy or alloinhibition.
iv) Soil sickness (quality and yield of a crop when grown on the same land for many years together reduce). It is albeit enlisted separately, allelopathy is the prime among other causes of soil sickness.

Sorghum falls under allelopathy or soil sickness or both?? i think sorghum comes under allelopathy as well as soil sickness because it produce chemicals and also known as exhaustive crop
