John Bailey Guitar, true that! Relying on others' transcriptions of the man's work has led to much unnecessary obfuscation of the musical elements, and sometimes the reality, imho. Peace, Daniel
Apparently you have studied Allan to a level that normal masters would.... you playing this on a classical electric guitar is almost out of the realm of my understanding of guitar...amazing
are you kidding me ! how long did that take ! lol .I'm curious if thats the same way Allan played it ,I mean the positions and the scales . i've listened to that song many times i never thought about learning it , crazy talent out there these days , cmon everyone ! lets write some good pieces and really carry the torch. good work.
Ha it took me a week or so I think. It's exactly the same notes so yes the scales/chord tones are the same but Allan deffo played it differently position-wise. Cheers!
Great playing dude! just got a subscribe for me, I am a fellow nylon jazzer currently teetering on the edge of getting myself a godin. Any reason you chose the more crossover version over the "classical" models?
Ben Hamilton hey man. I've got an endorsement with Godin but I've used them before that for years. I love Holdsworth but got a lot of my right hand technique from watch nelson veras who used a Godin. I wanted the classical right hand with a fusion sort of sound as I use overdrive sometimes and a deeper body might have encouraged feedback. I try to cut out a lot of the acoustic sound.
hey. I played a lot of classical guitar and its much more akin to the right hand of Nelson Veras with some small elements of Ralph Towner. I played a lot of Bach and a lot of 20th C classical stuff like Leo Brouwer.
Great job, John! All nylon strings? I was somewhat influenced by Allan when I was only playing electric. When I went all nylon, I gave up that style. You've managed to get the best of both worlds, I think.
ChuloDavidcito thanks man. Yeah all nylon. I play all kinds of guitars more my work as I play for a famous singer but for my own stuff I use entirely fingers and nylon. When I switched from plectrum a few years ago I wanted to retain all my big chops so I played Britten, Malcom Arnold, Bach and Brouwer to get my finger stuff together and did a load of classical recitals, then loads of bop heads and metheny type stuff. Then I started to tie it in with my own approach to harmony and improvising. Transcribing this and Jarrett and other stuff just to keep in shape really!
How exciting to play for a famous singer! I veered way off into flamenco, and that's where I got my chops. No possibility of those Holdsworth stretches on those necks and spacings. But that's just fine anyway. :)
I wasn't expecting this to be so clean. Nice.
Very good!! Saludos desde Barcelona.
So Nice... (so nice so nice) well done Lad!! Now write one! you are amazing you can!
Hey Bob! Thanks, check out my other vids. Lots of original stuff up there. Cheers!
Congratulations, fantastic!
Mad respect!
This has got to be in the top 5 most impressive things I've seen on guitar. And I see things every day.
Fantastic job - playing it on a nylon string guitar is even more impressive - love it !
BRAVO JOHN!
Incredible!. On a nylon-strung acoustic! Amazing playing.
Bravo!
Wow !! Absolutely wonderful
Refreshing to see it played with some of the more practical fingerings for most hands. Thanks man, nice job!
RockStarJazzCat ha. Indeed. Where there's a will, there's a way!

@@rockstarjazzcat i thought people can play guitar without the small thing
saw your band at Glyde house a few days ago. Great to hear 3 Allan Holdsworth tunes. Glad you are keeping his exceptional music alive.
Thank you very much! We had a lovely night there. Lots of fun and very challenging! Best, John
It's interesting to hear a more staccato take on a Holdsworth line. Masterful playing too.
Great playing, let’s keep the master alive by playing his music
exceptional playing.........alan would be proud

@@johnbailey9201 Just did that
Awesome
This is awesome. I just don’t have the technique to be able to play this fluid and certainly can’t improvise like Allan

Hey Marcus! Thanks man. I've certainly put in a lot of hours on Allan and on classical! But I'm terrible at most other things in life 😂
very cool, respect, man! which mode/scale is used here? do you think in modes/scales and see them all over the neck like holdsworth said he did?
like the sock haha!
When did Josh Hartnett learn to play guitar?? 😊

How did you learn that right hand technique? It looks similar to how Matteo Mancuso plays

Turn up that Godin please
Haha it is a bit low..
Really great, is the transcription out there or did you figure it out? Thanks
Matthew Thibodeau hey Matthew. I just worked it out, sorry bud.
Do this on acoustic guitar is exceptional
Eduardo Coelho thanks dude.
Parabéns..., Tocar Temas de Alan ñ são fáceis..., Ainda mais quando se é feito sem palheta.
great playing but never play against the solo cant tell whos plating you or the artist !
Great job!
