Both can do each other's specific style quite well, but the majority each other's discography is defined by these slight differences.

Malefic used drum machine since Xasthur started until the year 2007 that he could buy a real drum set, which was in Defective epitaph where he showed the drum set right on the music album. In the One Man Metal documentary he mentions that but he doesn't want to admit that from the beginning he used the drum machine. And Wrest, I understand that from his beginnings he also used an electronic drum kit. Until this split he was able to play a real drum set (and the sound change is noticeable unlike his first albums like The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide and the demos like Shadow of No Light).
