    I got a brand new 3300w (MK2) this year for my birthday. Huge upgrade from my 2101 MK2. I looked high and low for a vintage 145 but only turned up scraps and units with questionable alterations. I'm satisfied with my 3300w, I would have loved a vintage Leslie (again) but owners are asking way too much for fixer uppers in my region of the US.

    145 with the win! Nothing better than the real deal. Great comparison! I’m pairing a 145 with SKX Pro.

    I had a 145 with my M102 my old man cut and modified Dudley Moores A100 in the 80’s! And shipped it to USA!

    Trust me I own the 3300 and play an b3/122 at my Church, a Big difference with the wooden cabinets! By far!!! Been thinking about selling my 3300 to buy a 145/ 122/ 147 to use with my a100 so I can get tht sound tht I'm use of hearing at Church!

    I know 2 guys who purchased the 3300 and went back to the 145 within a year. Something about the old Leslie’s authenticity where volume wasn’t an issue. Just Mike the Leslie 145

    Instantly, the 3300 sounded much duller to me, almost nasal and weak in the midrange, whereas the 145 had more presence in the midrange/upper midrange to it. Maybe careful EQing can help the 3300 but it'll be difficult I guess. The overdrive is oftentimes covering up the weaknesses. As always, everything boils down to the upper driver.

    In my opinion, the 145 Leslie is the better one. The high as well as the low frequencies come out stronger and richer. The Leslie 3300 sounds more subdued and not as rich as the 145. However, the 3300's compactness makes it easier to handle than the 145 or other original Leslies. But when it comes to music, compactness is not important. The sound is crucial and the 145 is the clear leader.

      Fully agree. I wouldn't pay all that money for a new 3300.They don't sound that good as a well kept old 122 or 145 But Honestly if you can find a good old Leslie, there arent that many around eg in Scandinavia. your gonna end up paying at least about the same ammount as a brand new 3300. Even on a less than stellar recording like this there is much more punch in that 145 than the 3300. A couple years ago I heard a demo from a Danish guy selling an old Acetone spinet organ, and he demoed it thru its own speakers and a custom Leslie with an externa tube amp, and what a difference that Leslie setup was. It almost got that old Rice Cooker of an organ to sound like a real Hammond. You just need a decent clonewheel to get a good result. 90% of the magic lies in the Leslie and the Amp. There are some decent Leslie sims today in many clonewheels for us that just don't want to Haul a Leslie around and miking it up correct, but you still can't get it perfect without a real Leslie.

    First of all good to see a demo using an organ, most demos seem to use a guitar, and also without your overdrive, 3300 great for stage work, but for me valve Leslie’s have it for normal use.

    I use an skxpro with a leslie 147. There’s just nowhere enough enough volume. I have all gain stages turned all the way up on the organ and still the volume is weak when playing in a band. Not sure if there’s something I’m missing and the manual is of no help. My A100 with the same leslie is like 10x louder. Considering getting 3300 for the skxpro and keep the 147 at home with the A100.

      They are putting out at different levels. Google the Lounsberry Tall and Fat pedal for a good start.

    Thanks, Nick! The first blind test was funny... I thought you have started with the 3300 and then switching to the 145. :D lol Later, I can clearly hear the difference, of course. Both sounds great and has it's own character. I'd use a vintage 145 but in Hungary there's one for sale once in a bluemoon. So, I purchased the 3300WP. Can you shoot a video of the rotors while switching between slow/fast & fast/slow, please? It'd be interesting to see the difference how those horns/rotors speed up and slow down... Thank you

    • @nickfoleyuk
      @nickfoleyuk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s an interesting idea yes! You’d like to think that they were the same right? It’s all tweakable too. The 145 top rotor has a couple of subtle speed settings but not the rise and fall. I’ll have a look

    Mate, both of them sound incredible but, I agree about the warmer sound from the classical one, unfortunately, nowadays they are almost swept from the face of the earth.

    3300 when you want more power and volume. I've had a 22 and a 145, now I use a 723....any comparisons on the 723?....I have the 2005 porta B3 now. had a 1959 B3

    • @nickfoleyuk
      @nickfoleyuk  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not overly familiar with that Leslie 723. I have a 621 coming in soon which I think is a similar config. I’ll have a look at it

    Personally, I love the sound of the 145 better than I do the 3300. The 145 has a lot more punch and phat sound to it than the 3300 does. The 145 most definitely has my vote for the win between the two.

  • @Blues.Fusion

    Everything you do to make the 3300 sound better makes the 145 sound better. In a loud mix probably the 3300 is the ticket.

    Gheez you guys have no clue what so ever. I see several flaws in this set up when looking at how they Leslies are micked up and how thee cabinetts are placed. One of the cabs are close to the wall which will make a huge difference, the bass part of the cabinetts have one with an open port and the other with a closed port. All these things make a huge difference. I'm not saying that it is wrong it's just that I wouldn't call this an A/B test in the slightest way. And besides the 3300 has an equalizer that seems to be set to full on everything which of course will influence the sound alot. I'm not saying one is better then the other it's just not a fair test.

    V21 in the 145? Also what Preamp are you using?

    • @nickfoleyuk
      @nickfoleyuk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, jenson driver. I’m going organ into organ grinder and then into 145 which has been modified to accept a quarter inch Jack. Look back on my other vids for more on that.

    • @yaminub
      @yaminub 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nickfoleyuk ok so you don't have a separate preamp to boost the signal before that. So I can probably make do with my 147 doing the same thing (unless I'm overlooking the differences in the amplifiers)

    • @nickfoleyuk
      @nickfoleyuk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yaminub that’s correct. I use the level on the organ grinder to boost it, as you correctly surmise the line level input is natively a lot less that the Leslie is expecting.

    Lamento decirte amigo que me llevo una enorme decepción con la respuesta del audio de demostración, soy músico profesional y con el oído educado con cincuenta y cuatro años de experiencia, tuve un órgano Hammond B-300 con un ampli Leslie 822 y nunca sonó así, parece que has colgado un parlante simple en la pared y lo haces sonar a alto volúmen, no parece un Leslie de a de veras por favor corrige ésta deficiencia; ah, y deja de ser muy charlatán, ve al grano, más demostración musical y menos palabras.
