I am from Brazil and I am so proud that brazillian music is part of her life because her dad enjoys it. I am amazed by the fact that brazillian good music (Bossa Nova/MPB) is capable of going so far, be a part of people's life and inspire them across the world. Your music inspire me, Laufey. I love love love to hear you sing ♡
Laufey touch upon a very important topic, that many in the West seem not grasp or not fully understand. People think that an immigrant family get to live in a western democratic free society is enough. However that is not enough for a happy life. A sense of belonging is what is important. Laufey, eventhough perfectly well versed, half asian with best of both worlds. However she only felt a sense of comfort when she came in contact with other people who had similar background and experiences as her. This shows us that representation and diversity does matters. 9:00
Wonderful interview! It’s great seeing both geeking out, from their respective musical backgrounds, and hearing about the things that drive Laufey’s artistry. I’m particularly struck by the unique combination of youthfulness and sincerity that she displays: eg how through her music her audience can discover a concert hall for the first time and the eloquent way she contrasted “old” vs”timeless”. I’m lucky to have scored some tickets to an upcoming stop of her World Tour in Belgium. I’m sure it will be an amazing gig! And thanks again Tom for sharing this great interview.
Discovered Laufey on YT and was like..." who is this?!! Her music is like *intertwined with many genres* - but not generalized. I've listened to all her songs, introduced them to my 13 year old grandniece who has performed Laufey's songs at school events and has also performed with a well known local jazz pianist here on island. 🤗
A friend of ours played with her on the Tonight Show last week, so we tuned into the TH-cam video. What struck me was that her voice's vibrato reminded me of Ella Fitzgerald... Now I know why!
Hey Tom , I am sure glad my tax payers money is being put to good use. I love your interviews that are not the usual superficial drivel that passes for journalism in many places. If it was not for you I would have no idea of such interesting, thoughtful, and truly talented artists in our world. Wow she is a power house of talent. I thought it was a little funny when you said you come from a small isolated island in the North Atlantic, same with her, but maybe a little more isolated. As regards to some of your critics. I say if you are an typical example of a Newfoundland journalist, I for one would like to see more of you fellas. Keep on Keeping on Tom.
Laufey is such an amazingly beautiful, talented and intelligent young lady! She also has other attributes that are too numerous to mention! I'm so glad that the younger generations are picking up the musical torch and carrying forward with all this passion, devotion, determination and talent! I love all types of music! I'm into different genres of music as well as different styles from every era you can think of! I listen to performers like Jackie Evancho, the group Shut Up & Kiss Me from Romania! That group has a collection of very talented singers and musicians that I would call true Superstars! Megan Nicole, Tiffany Alvord, Connie Talbot, Emily Linge, and countless other young talents! I think there's still hope for the younger generations such as the Gen Z ers, Gen Alphas, and whatever follows! God bless all of you, and I'm looking forward to the music that's yet to be! Bye, be safe and take care!
Laufey is so wonderful! But it's interesting the way that Samara Joy is often left out of the "mainstream" Gen-Z Jazz conversation, even though she is a 2 x Grammy Winner.
@@bobski7032 Joni played the Bowl last October with Brandi Carlile after playing The Gorge earlier last summer. This October Joni is headlining two Hollywood Bowl concerts. Both sold out in minutes. As of the beginning of May Laufey and Joni were the only artists to sell out The Bowl. Bob Dylan with Willie Nelson hadn't, James Taylor hadn't and Neil Young And Crazy Horse hadn't.
She gives a great interview, but I just meet her at Sydney airport I was the only fan there to meet her and she treated me like I was not even there , I ask her politely for an autograph and was completely ignored and given a very icy response. Her manager said we no time , she then sat in her limo for 15 mins ignoring me . If this the way she treats fans she doesn’t deserve them.
She didn't say her music was jazz, it is inspired by jazz, but she also said she did some songs that was totally according to jazz standards, so her music is definitely leaning towards Jazz. And you cannot say her music is not Jazz, because Jazz itself have many sub standards. People who do not understand Jazz would consider Jazz as one single thing.
''Do you want your music to sound old?''
Laufey: ''Old no, timeless, yes.''
QUICK WITH IT! Can't be grilled!
Love watching Laufey interviews. She’s a breath of fresh air to this industry!
listening to her speak is so therapeutic
listening to her sing is so therapeutic

A great interview of an interesting, brilliant and well-spoken young woman! Bravo! (But I missed your usual, "How are ya?"
One will immediately notice that she is very well spoken. Well educated, self confident and quit talented.
This was a great interview!
I’m so happy someone young is making real music again!
A friend of ours played with her on the Tonight Show last week, so we tuned into the TH-cam video. What struck me was that her voice's vibrato reminded me of Ella Fitzgerald... Now I know why!

Q took some parts of the interview and put it on NPR which was awesome
these interviews are the best

She sounds, looks, and feels like a good music school product.
wish she can have a concert in China soon:)
i love her so much
Laufey sold out the Hollywood Bowl! So far just her and Joni Mitchell have sold out their shows this season.
Joni still performs? Anyway nice juxtaposition..but always compare her to Ella Fitzgerald

the age of consent should be lower
Coming concert in Singapore was sold out!
Laufey is single handily bringing jazz and classical music back!! It was a dying art until she came to the mainstream🤷
I LOVE YOU LAUFEY
4:13 the 40h/day LingLing is strong in this one ❤
jacob collier is gen z's jazz icon
He is not jazz either, just having crazy chords does not make something jazz
Revisit @12:00
She said limerence, BTW, not limerick.

maybe she was exhausted from her tours and events?
So. Much. Glazing.
cry about it
Good!
It's beautiful music, but it's NOT "jazz".

Is not jazz
