The world lost Malcomb today, I will greatly miss seeing him, drinking coffee with him. So grateful I met him years ago and got to see him live as many times as I did😢
So many times he played you could hear a pin drop. Even patrons and bartenders whispered. Such a grounded presence onstage. He made our culture here that much richer.
A great soul. A great son of Asheville. A great heart. A great musician. The hard life of a true singer-songwriter, saloon singer - Cigarettes and whiskey - made for an unforgettable voice but killed this dear man too early. My wife, Kirsten, and I have been huge fans of his since the 80's, catching him playing little venues all over Western North Carolina. The first time I heard him was in a pizza joint in Hendersonville - and was completely knocked out by his passion and talent. As unique a singer and person as there ever was. Oh, he will be missed.
He scares the living shit out of me. He doesn't perform. He expresses himself. I'm a Tom Waits lover but that's a great act. This I think is the real deal. I can only watch so much at a time with him because he moves me to that degree. Hope he gets better from recent illness.
I loved this man's heart, speaking honestly and singing from deap down from his soul. He went thru a hard like and came of darkness in life into the light. I will alway remember his beautiful soul and the words he left us with. I will miss seeing and talking to him, but he and his words will always live inside of me
saw him years ago riding around in a water color cheverolet he played every where all over carolina and parts unknowm he was on the eastside of lonsome back then but now he's TRUE NORTH...love this song my favorite Macolm song...this and far cry from here...hang onto JESUS Malcolm and GOD'S BLESSINGS
I absolutely love this man and his music. There are wings underneath that 30 year old leather jacket with duct tape on the sleeves. Makes me homesick for the mountains.

It's just like I read somewhere: " But if you’re not touched by Malcolm Holcombe, you’re not alive "
329 views and three people bothered to check the thumbs up box? I can only imagine the only reason they didn't vote is that they fell off of their chairs whilst listening to this. if it gets better than Malcolm Holcombe, I'm not sure I want to know about it, not sure I could take sincerity and conviction that gets any deeper than this! thank you for posting and THANK YOU Mr. Holcombe for putting your heart on your sleeve and having the courage to share it with us. Brilliant Stuff!
When I heard that Malcolm Holcombe was gone, this song and this performance of it came first to my mind. Everything that was wonderful about songwriting lived its best life in this man.
There’s a documentary somewhere on here, shot sometime in the 90’s about musicians in Nashville trying to make the big time in country music. Malcolm was featured and at that time was on the verge of a record deal but hindered by his alcoholism and personal demons. It’s great to see he’s found some success in the years after. What a great talent.
Cameron Hawes He has some strong friends now who hold him up & keep him straight & connected with his true self & path, with value & tremendous support & respect? Greetings from Asheville, NC. I met & knew Malcolm around town here many years ago. Was supposed to sing a duet with him in 1992, but it never happened lol. He & I were both hindered by sheerly trying to survive. I kept him in my prayers at times, when he was sleeping in his car etc. Didn't know if he was gonna survive. God bless him, I adore him so much. I love real people. He is like gold to me.
Seen him in Dublin, amazing small stage to like 75/100 people. The intimacy of the gig to a completely captivated audience still gives me the chills. Telling his story through his music is worth a watch if he's still touring.
Wow! What an amazing style of guitar playing. You can feel all the heart and soul Malcolm puts into this performance. The type of music for a road trip to the East coast. Will certainly purchase some of Holcombe’s music. I am thrilled to have discovered him.
Love this song. I saw him play live in my hometown of Louisville, Kentucky in 2000. Amazing performer; his soul shines out of his eyes. Got to chat with him briefly after. A truly unique, genuine human. Blessings on ya, Malcolm!
One of the best perfomances I've seen. I've been listening this song for 2 or 3 years now and I've just read about Malcolm death. Amazing artist, pure talent, energy and soul. Rest in peace man, thank you for that piece of art. Love u.
WOW , He just impresses the heck out of me. You can just feel his music. I hope Malcombe knows just how talented he is. His singing is like an Opera, if you couldn't understand his words you would still know what he was singing about.
Had the pleasure of hearing and meeting Malcolm at the Frank Brown International Songwriter's Festival a number of years ago. A very interesting musician/songwriter would be an understatement to say the least !! If you ever get the chance go to the Frank Brown which takes place every November !! You'll be happy you did !!!
Amazing, I'm speechless. What a way to capture the longing of going home with all the feeling of melancholy, yearning, trying to recapture that familiar place now long gone.
Same old sirens, on the West Side ! The continuum of the bleakness, matched by the desperation of man. Deep resect for this truant messenger from the Dark Side ! Everything touched today becomes the pain of tomorrow. Save the people ! Colder & colder. Powerful story, this !
Same old sirens, on the west side Same old troubles, right down town You tried to hold me, like no tomorrow You tried to keep me, on your mind Yea, I still hear the mornin' thunder (You´ll see) I still see you, through a window Oh Lord, it's gettin' colder tonight Oh Lord, summer's 'bout all gone Right behind you, is my suitcase Follow me boy, we're goin' home, Yea Why can't you open up your eyes? Nah you know, It don't matter 'bout my size You´ll see, I can't figure out nothin' You´ll see, I can't figure out what to say Oh Lord it's gettin' colder tonight Oh Lord, summer's 'bout all gone Right behind you, is my suitcase Follow me boy, we're goin' home.. Hah, goin' home, Ha haa Today we're goin' One day, one day, Lord Yea la la la, Oh Lord, it's gettin' colder tonight Oh Lord, now summer's 'bout all gone Right behind you, is my suitcase Yea, I said, follow me, boy, whatever, Follow me, boy, we´re going home One day, said we're going..home One day, Lord knows Said, we're going, mmm, one day, goin' home - one day
There was nothing Malcom that was ever cultivated. He was a pure soul who just played the music that was in him and had to come out. I am so sad he has left this world.
Never seen any one like him. This is my favorite song of his. So sad he's gone but if there's a heaven he's playing there tonight!!
The most beautiful tune I have ever heard. I hear it in my dreams
The world lost Malcomb today, I will greatly miss seeing him, drinking coffee with him.
So grateful I met him years ago and got to see him live as many times as I did😢
Gave him a ride home from my favorite watering hole years ago. We never did find his house 😅. Enjoyed the company nonetheless. RIP Malcolm.

Rest in Peace. One of the greatest singer songwriters ever. The world just got a little sadder..
I'm back. Can never get enough Malcolm. He's gone home, and RIP Malcolm Holcombe.
I have the unfortunate habit of not hearing of a musical master until they are gone. 😔
The angels are Dancin’ in heaven tonight listenin’ to you

R.I.P. Malcolm. Thank you for everything. 😢

Go see him if you get the chance. So good live.

That level of intensity is just pulls you in to every detail of the performance... a masterpiece moment.
I've seen him a couple of times. One of the few shows where the audience is quiet so they hear every word!
I absolutely love this man and his music. There are wings underneath that 30 year old leather jacket with duct tape on the sleeves. Makes me homesick for the mountains.

If i'll go back home one day, after all those years. This would be the song that plays in background.

I listen to Malcolm and I equate the music to the feeling I get listening to Blaze Foley. different styles but the intensity and emotions are similar.
Great Singer and:....so right....so true.....

Another mean old man. How many of us are there and how do you keep finding them? Thanks, Don!
the man
I never check the thumbs up or down. I'm not sure if there is any point to it?
If your dogs talking to you and his lips aren't moving don't listen to him. Funniest quote I ever heard him say
Wow
good lord
Hey ya know I am related to Malcolm Holcombe
Some of us just fall through the cracks
brujo este tio te tiene que molar por cojones, aunque no te guste el blues
Malcom can play - but he looks slightly insane. I wonder if he cultivates this?
Creativity and insanity walk hand in hand, my friend.
espacho Not for everyone. There are sane guys who are very creative. I know one.
Certainly not insane, simply his unique style of presentation. A sweeter man does not exist.
There was nothing Malcom that was ever cultivated. He was a pure soul who just played the music that was in him and had to come out. I am so sad he has left this world.
