Coyote Crossing and Citation Landing Sidney Ohio. Pilot Vlog 54

  • Pilot Vlog 54. We start with an early morning takeoff from The Cahokia Saint Louis Downtown Airport after pulling the Cessna Citation Encore out of the hanger. As we taxi on the taxiway a Coyote crosses in front of our aircraft. There's lots of turbulence during the flight to and from Sidney Ohio, and both takeoffs and landings are in the video.

    SIdney, Ohio is my hometown!!! My grandpa and I spent many hours watching trains cross the concrete arch bridge back in the day. Nice to know that there's still a nice old-fashioned "American" diner downtown. If you ever go to Sidney again, I would recommend The Spot on the southwest side of the square. Great hamburgers and pies. If they're still there....

    Love your videos. While I am not a pilot, I too travel frequently for my job, and you are so correct, it can be challenging and even frustrating to not be able to be there at times when things suddenly come up. So glad your family is OK. We can not do our jobs without the support of our families.

    Thumbs up for your taste in music. And thumbs up for the great day you had: didn't hit the coyote, diligently endured the bumpy ride, landed your fast jet on that narrow runway safely, and had noone hurt in the car accident at home. You can look at it from this angle too and appreciate ;)

      +Marin Delgado thanks Marin. Since the camera is attached to the window. it moves with the aircraft so you don't see us bouncing around. Where it's really noticeable in the time-lapse. You can see the airplane constantly moving to compensate for being displaced by the turbulence.

  • @GaryMCurran

    Glad to hear that Chris and Anna are alright. Of course, now you have to deal with the insurance companies and the depreciation on the car, and getting a new one, etc. I'm also glad to hear that no one was injured, and that there was an Officer there quickly.
    Tell Chris that I understand completely about your comments, my last job would have taken me 1.75 hours, at a minimum, once I walked out the door, and if it was later on in the afternoon, it would have been 2.75 hours to get home, and I'm don't have a flying job! Being there as quickly as you were was great. Of course, then you have the days like when you went to pick up the M2, and got stuck overnight.
    Unrelated topic to the accident. When you or the co-pilot calls Vr and Rotate, does the co-pilot move his (or her, but I haven't seen you flying with any females yet) to cover the throttles the pilot has just vacated? I've never been able to notice, and I'm curious.

    • @captmoonbeam
      @captmoonbeam  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gary C thanks Gary, Sounds like you know exactly what I'm talking about. Once the pilot removes his hand from the yoke the other pilot is not placing his hand behind them but, he is monitoring the power and will call or make a power adjustment. If a thrust reverser were to deploy during takeoff the throttle would automatically snap back to idle. Don't want to get in the way.

    Sidney can be a bit bumpy on approach in the summer. I train out of a strip about 8 miles SW of there and have flown into there tons because of cheap avgas. Nice little airport, but it can get quite busy on a Saturday afternoon.

    You told me you don't have the after burner mod. After watching the approaches, in not so sure.. Think your fibbin.
    I remember about a hundred years ago I shot an approach to Mecham filed and as soon as I touched down a heard of deer crossed the runway. Fire walled that bugga, lear 35, and did a go around. Thought for sure we hit one, or many. Would have sworn I heard a thump.
    Thankfully we didn't hit any.

    • @captmoonbeam
      @captmoonbeam  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +richard schindler That could have been catastrophic. Makes me think of the Lear accident where they were landing and hit deer, The deer took out there brake lines and they went of the end of the runway and burned. Can't remember if they got out or not.

    Great Video(s)! Quick question, why do you blur out the Registration on the cockpit panel? Reason I ask is, we can hear what it is from ATC. IS this just something your company wants you to do or is there some other reason?

    • @captmoonbeam
      @captmoonbeam  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Fitch93 I originally blurred the N numbers and bleeped it in the audio. That was when TH-cam was a different place and I did it more to protect the privacy of aircraft owners and passengers. The audio thing was a real pain and I didn't do that very long. Then I stopped blurring the N# on both sides. Now I just do it if it's very predominate in the video. If I'm being lazy i don't even do that. The aircraft was just sold and one day I imagine someone will walk up to the new captain and ask if he's Captmoonbeam.

    A Philadelphia lawyer could have fun with a BMW driver T-boning your car in a school zone. Then you "could" buy your own Citation. But there's a scary thing going on here. I'm beginning to recognize turning landmarks in St. Louis, and I've never been there!

    Hey just 2 quick questions... 1. About how many hours a year do you fly with your current company. And also I'm about to do my commercial multi check ride I'm a low time pilot. And I do plan on getting my CFI. But I want to get a job flying for a small charter company or nighttime cargo because I wanna get some hard IFR time even single pilot IFR to build my experience and I wanted to know if you had any advice on getting a job of that nature???

    • @captmoonbeam
      @captmoonbeam  8 ปีที่แล้ว
