You know for some of us the 80s weren't that long ago. I was raising my children so seeing some of that stuff brings back memories. When born in 52, the 80s seems like yesterday.
*That was an M.D.'s office, probably a home/office - this is, or was, very common for "country doctors". I got my degree in 81, and I have all of the books you found there - most notably, the Medical Clinics in North America series. I had the same copier you saw in the early entryway, it was manufactured in the late 60s or early 70s. The couches on the front porch date to the late 60s and early 70s, and were popularized by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The two "Hoover" vaccuum cleaners were from the 1960s and 1970s respectively* *My guess as to the age of the place: I would guess, based on the design & style (the frame was bricked, and the inside used lathing - lathing was replaced by sheetrock around 1950), is the house was built around the turn of the 20th century, and was probably used up through the early 1990s.* *The "mystery equipment" you found in the basement consisted of an old Coal fired furnace (most coal deliveries for these stopped by 1960), and an early central air conditioning hub. While you didn't examine it, Bekah managed to sweep past the electrical panel. That panel used circular glass fuses, and was obsolete (and replaced by breaker systems in most structures in the USA) by 1965. *By the way, the old scrip pad **_cannot_** be used: assuming the 'doc is dead or retired, the NPI number on the pad (his/her prescribing registration number) will be revoked.*
@@ExploringwithRickBekah herein lies the problem...if you guys want to do this, gonsit down with books and learn about furniture styled, hardware, wood, etc. You are guessing st things. It would be refreshing to gave someone walk up to a place and say, hey here's an old house that's federal style, ir Greek revival, or whatever. Study furniture styles, dude, STUDY THUS STUFF or shoot it to be before you post it and I'll tell you what it is, then post it

Very interesting. Things I noticed: A book published in 1946 "A Dark Wood"; syringes that are packaged in a way that were not available too much prior to 1980 (I'm ex o.r. person); wiring in the basement is 1930's to 60's; Boiler is very old...probably late 30's early 40's. I'm wondering about his practice there. It was common in the 60's, and prior, for docs to work out of their homes, and also did house calls. You're probably too young to have experienced that. And these docs were generalists that had to practice in many specialties. I'm betting he was 65+ when he either passed away or had to leave the practice/home. Remember that family picture? Looks like it is from '79, 80, '81. That fellow was about 40, 44 yrs old and it looks that his oldest daughter may have been 20. So, he is too young to be the doc that had the letter to him in the 60's. My guess is he is the son of the doc, or the woman is the daughter of the doc. Why do I think so? If the place was abandoned in '86 ish, why would a 46 to 50 yr old doc, in his prime, leave behind all of that business stuff? He wouldn't. Do you two ever do research on the places you visit? That would be interesting to know who owned the place at the time. Great adventure. You two be careful out there.
Whenever I see these videos...I always wonder what the back story is. Why was it abandoned....why would people just leave their stuff behind...all those pictures, they obviously had family. Just so sad to see such beauty and history in ruins. ...and all the family history , just gone. Very sad
So often if wills aren't left & family fights among siblings, 2nd wives & her family, etc., it can get tied up in court for years. I've also seen property given to people who lived out of state & never came back to the area. It just sat.......and rotted. 😢
I was expecting antiques in a place that old. 1970's & 1980's seems almost like yesterday to me. I was hoping to see some 1880's stuff. The old house is awesome though.

i think its funny how astonished they are to see the pictures from the 80s.... its the 1980s not 1880s, only 30 years ago, could show you a whole box of pictures from the 80s. its called my teen years.

You make it seem like 100’s of years ago. The doll that didn’t make it looked like a Holly Hobby doll. I could be wrong because I was a teenager in the 80’s so I guess my OLD brain is failing me lol. Bekah you said it best when you said "you just don't get it" how someone can destroy a home like that, let me tell you though as a 62 year old Woman it's wonderful to see some Millenniums who have respect for life and things! MINE included....but one day it will all be gone or scarce and they will be sorry they didn't keep some of it. I absolutely love the way you respect the property, the way you photo and film and the way you both communicate with each other. It's really good that you are filming this for historical reasons. Thank you for documenting these places. Many of us will never be able to visit.
The microphone you found in the room, was attached to the General Electric "Progress Line" model radio laying on the floor. There was also a couple of antennas laying around there also I saw. I have serviced those radios over the years, which is why it caught my eye. I love your videos! Obviously was into medical and used the two-way radios for his practice. Probably ran it out of his home. On the basement ceiling I noticed the old style "Knob and Tube" power wires. That was done in the very early days of electric in homes. Before the modern cables like romex we see in homes today. Knob and Tube is attached to ceramic "Knobs" and goes through walls in "Tubes" to protect the wires. Otherwise, touching them in a basement when the power was on could prove deadly to people. There were no markings on them to show which was one was the hot one, Live one, or the return one. The heat in the basement was fuel oil fired steam heat, based on the type of radiators in the home. VERY nice explore! You two are great!
Reading other peoples’ comments is nearly as enjoyable as the awesome videos. Love to hear others’ takes on these places. Definitely a late 1800s home. The couches on the front porch were midcentury modern, late 50s-early 60s. Most of the furniture inside looked very 70s, especially the orange and green floral couches. Those magazines and dolls were 80s relics. On the top floor was a really cool Singer sewing machine stand, minus the sewing machine from around 1900 id guess. These videos are so riveting!
I can totally imagine what this place looked like in its heyday. It still feels warm and welcoming and alive ❤ I've yet to see on any of these sites a comment which says, "that used to be our house" or, "my family lived there". You guys are such a sweet couple. Cobwebs and Lightbulbs. Great book title or name for a band 😊 Never felt this b4 but seeing the old phots makes me think of some of my young friends, who are in their second year at uni. They are stressing and working so hard and in no time it will all be over.
Amazing at all the stuff that was in there, big huge place. Can you imagine what that place used to look like with those big columns inside and out and those porches and two way stairs and all the fireplaces!! And good for you making a long video anymore videos are becoming too short. Great job you two!!.......
Pamela Gideon-Agreed. It must've been absolutely Magnificent in it's prime!!! I don't comprehend how it could've been abandoned and not sold!!? Too bad they didn't later research it's history and do an update. I wonder if the family just moved on or if something truly tragic occurred and that's why it was left with all it's possessions?? It should've been auctioned off. It's truly a shame the home wasn't sold for another family to enjoy. It pains me to see such a beautiful home fall to shambles!!!...

The rag doll with the blue bonnet was Hollie Hobby and the doll head without a body was a Cabbage Patch Kid. Both very popular in the early 80's. Almost every little girl wanted a Cabbage Patch doll for Christmas and stores ran out. Since I couldn't get one at a store I bought one from a gal that made them. Looked cute,but wasn't the " real McCoy " so my little girl was disappointed. She had Holly and later she also had a Cabbage Patch Kid with its adoption papers, ect. All ended ok!🙂
Holly Hobby was my favorite doll when I was a kid! Raggedy Ann was as well! I collect dolls and I think I'm going to try to find those dolls. That was an amazing home! Wish I could clean it up!!
I would suggest that you get an extra battery for your camera. Than you won't worry so much about running out of battery. Also a good flash light. When taking photos, things to shoot, the old fire places, door knobs, window that are different shapes, stair wells. the columns inside and out side of the house. The kittens on the porch where one was peeking out of the porch would have been an adorable shot. Good luck on your next exploration.
Also, did you ever follow up with public records to find who owned the property? I would have done some investigating to see if I could find out what happened to the people who lived there.
It's strange that some of us want to know what happened to these people while others are quite content to just watched a video. But seeing all their possessions . You have to ask the question? What could make them make them just walk away from their lives ? And why couldn't they be bothered to try and find out? Cause in another video of their's but much more unsettling then this one . I ask them if they could look into what happened since they had everything that with a bit of effort we'd probably have a answer to that question now but have never heard back . Such a shame that these families are going to fade into history without even some one trying to make an effort and put some closure to their story . Maybe some one else might come along and fill in what we'd all like to know.
This property had loads of paperwork and names, if we were told the name we could have researched the family ourselves. It leaves us questions as to what happened to them. Nice to have followups on any houses you have researched
Hi Guys, This home was probably built between 1860-1870. Due to the fact that there are fireplaces in every room & back then that was the main source of heat... Radiators happened a bit later after 1880... & I see most of the fireplace mantles were of Marble & some our of wood which indicates this home was built for a very prominent person back in the day... I see there are some of those radiators on the porch etc.. which I'm thinking that perhaps there were scrappers in the area....& they were trying to move it for salvage... or when the Dr's practice closed perhaps someone was intending to rehab and had financial issues & were unable to complete the work... The Dolls you found were the Cabbage Patch and Holly Hobble which was from the early 80's.} Perhaps the Dr who lived & worked in this home passed away & the family moved without being able to sell this home & then again maybe the realitives /family of this Dr did not want to own such a large home..which requires a lot of upkeep & maintenance...Heartbreaking beyond sad that vandals destroyed the inside with graffiti as well as damaging the interior & turning the contents upside down.... I live in a Queen Anne Victorian which was built in 1891... I do know alot about them...Is it possible you could at least tell me which town in Pa so I can check the History of this Home with the Local Historical Society... Only if you are able.. :-) I respect your privacy...

It's probably actually a bit more recent than that, closer to 1900, maybe 1910. The reason for this is that there are so many bathrooms, none of which appear to have been added on later. During that time, closets weren't super common in bedrooms because of wardrobes, or I'd say that maybe they had converted them into bathrooms later on. I've also read that 1800's bathrooms were usually pretty large, but I don't know if that was true in every case. Only the bathroom on the first floor looks like it's newer than the 1920's, probably from the 1950's because of the "sink with the face" and the choice of mint green as the color. I remember reading that people didn't put bathrooms on the 1st floor because hygiene was a more private issue which was confined to the bedroom areas on the 2nd floor. Here are a bunch of examples from different eras. www.pinterest.com/craftsmanjunky/early-1900s-bathrooms/?lp=true Also, the exterior windows have this "boxy" decorative trim which I found on an old farmhouse near my parents house a few years back. I was able to date that farm house to around 1900-1910 but I can't remember the actual year anymore and the house is long gone so I can't look up the property records anymore to find out.
I live in an 1891 Queen Anne Victorian in Conn and the upstairs bathroom has an original copper tub with lion's feet... the downstairs bathroom was added in later years.. :-)

Most of that furniture is 60s - 70s. But that photo, that really did look 80s! I wonder why all that stuff is still there, and what happened. It is weird, and sad.
InTheirImage7 I was thinking the same thing!! I live in a huge Farmhouse on 26 acres that was built in 1920 and I've really spruced this home up. I love it!! There is also a little log cabin beside of me that was built in 1849 and it's in amazing condition. I have no neighbors and that's the part that I think I love most! Lol These old houses amaze me and I wish that people wouldn't vandalize them! It's really sad.
My guess is that the people in the pictures were not the doctor, but his kids and grandchildren. Eventually he got old and passed on. Far too often, the heirs are living far away and can't deal with the house easily, or don't want to due to how much stuff there was and how overwhelming it is to go through. So they take what they want and leave the rest behind. If property taxes aren't paid, eventually the county will seize the home and land, and it becomes property of the local government. If it's in rough shape like this one, it can be really hard to get rid of it at auction, because fixing the home up would be a major investment for a new buyer.
You guys know how to explore..thank you guys for going slow and steady without rushing and done in 10 minutes max. Next time take some extra batteries and a flashlight (torch)...so you dont have to worry about dark rooms. Thank you so much for taking such care to document and doing a great explanation. The green dishes in the box in the closet upstairs came in Duz Laundry Detergent in the 1950's. My mom had the whole set. In fact, everybody we knew had those dishes.
Sue Nuckles yah, I’m 70 yrs old and my Mom used to collect dishes from laundry detergent box. And myself? I use to collect nice drinking glasses from Gas ⛽️ stations will a fill up or so.
OHH! You totally missed several pristine magazines on the table with their MAILING LABELS intact! That was a prime opportunity to find out who lived/worked there!
That porch is beautiful! I love the architecture. It's so classic Victorian. That stereo and TV console was very popular in the 70s and 80s. I would imagine this was such a beautiful home. Some of these items could be antiques. Looks like looters and vandals have been through the house. I really enjoyed this video. This house is amazing. I love your enthusiasm. Beautiful structure. I can imagine how it must have looked in it's heyday when it was first built. I believe the room with all of the overturned sofas, photos and chairs must have been the Dr's office patient waiting room, as it's just off the main entrance. That would explain the many magazines and also children's toys there. Just my guess. Thanks for taking us on your adventures!
This big old house is really impressive and very mysterious! I am usually curious to some degree about previous residents, but this one is such a puzzle, what with the photos, medical stuff, kid toys, etc. Wouldn't it be great if vandals and thieves had left it alone for us to see in it's entirety? Wow. Never gonna happen tho......Really great job, Rick & Bekah, as always! (PS: The orange tiger kittens were beautiful, may they live long and prosper.)
I lived in a similar house growing up. It was in the country on acreage & we found out, while doing repairs, it was also owned by a doctor previously. Our house was once in downtown Sacramento, California, a prominent doctor's home. He became alcoholic and lost his license. The home was moved to what was then a very remote area. Although it was a two story when my family purchased it, it had been a 3 story home with maid quarters on the third floor. When it was moved, it could not fit under power lines and some road-ways, so the top floor was taken off. We found lots of old liquor bottles hidden in walls, in the attic (previously 3rd floor) and even under the home (no basements here, but it was set up on cinder blocks). After the doctor lived there, a free-spirit family with many children lived in it & moved out, leaving much of their things in shambles & trash galore. They intended to update the home when they bought it, but lived too free a life-style to follow through. In that respect, it reminds me of what was seen in this video. My parents bought it for very little (basically land value), cleaned it up, and restored it the best we could. It's a beautiful 5,000+ sq foot home which my parents sold when they retired & didn't want to deal with stairs anymore. The huge pocket doors, woodwork, built-ins, and moldings/casings were so very intricate. My worst memories of those years were the Saturdays spent dusting all those detailed cut-outs/grooves. The upkeep was endless, but wish the home was still in our family.
I'm watching this video in July 2019. I had that Holly Hobby doll when I was a child during the 70's. Cool video! 👍 However, it may have been mentioned already, but you should wear respirator masks when you go into these old houses.
I would have skipped all of the junk and went straight to show the architecture and the moldings and woodwork on the inside. When you first see the mansion from the outside, you're like saying to yourself -- "Wow, the inside has to be awesome"? But, then when you did get inside of the mansion -- your video then mainly just focused on the debris and junk in the house. If you would focus more on the architecture next time and not spend so much time on the debris left in the house -- it would be a lot better. Although, I do appreciate that you both took the time to explore the house -- as I grew up in the south and there are many old mansions that I've always wanted to see the inside of and never had the opportunity. What kind of camera did you use to film this ? It's obviously a very high-end camera because all the footage is very stabilized and crystal clear. I would love to know the name of the manufacturer and which model it is? Thanks for making the video -- I did enjoy it very much! I wish that this mansion was salvageable -- but it does appear to have a lot of major damage from the elements and it sits right on a major highway! Very sad. The building of the highway is probably the cause of it being abandoned. It's such a beautiful old mansion! P.S. -- From all of the different sets of "living room furniture" and the different bathrooms on each of the floors -- it appears that this place had been divided up into different apartments. Old mansions did not have that many 'bathrooms' -- most of them just had one large bathroom and it was usually located on the 2nd floor where all of the bedrooms were.
I knew of a mansion in that i was in as a child it was built late 1800s and had many barhrooms this place once was a mansion but may have been split into apts.
This was a cool explore. Ok. This is my take on this beautiful home. I would say it was built in the early to mid 1800s. The doctor that lived there had his office in the home along with his grown children (or child) and the doctors grand children later in his life. By the looks of the waiting room furniture, I would venture to guess that the doctor had his office there since the 50's. He probably passed away and left the house to his grown children who could not care or afford its upkeep.It must have been something in its day. Thats for sure.
This home was built nowhere near the early 1800's. Prior to the late 1880's there was no knob and Tube, they didn't have that kind of construction or electricity, etc. This home was built no early than about 1880. My Georgian Colonial was built in 1823, is one of the oldest homes in the state of OH and the first of its kind coming out of the construction of Log Cabins. By comparison and architecture that home was built about 60 years after mine, that is based on the framing techniques among other things.
I see a lot of comments on here where people want to “fix” the place up. I don’t believe they understand what that would entail. That house would need to be completely gutted. All the floors torn up, walls torn down, the whole 9 yards. That is, if it’s even structurally sound and I have high doubts on that! I’m sure it would cost less to build a replica!
17.5 minutes in and I see an antique bassinet, then a beautiful marble fireplace (love all of them in the house)!! Next was the antique metal gas room heater. LOVE the split staircases!! I grew up in a house that had radiators that were plain and the ornate radiator sitting in the bathroom at the top of the stairs is just GORGEOUS!! That house was approximately 100 years old in the '70's. This house looks much older because of the doorknobs. The doorknobs in our house were the glass ones that looked like gems. Looking at the hole in the wall between the bathroom and the bedroom, it looks like there may have been copper pipes that were stolen for their value. The red and yellow game looks like an old connect four game. On the third floor there is an antique Singer sewing machine table with the pedal that operated the sewing machine! What a shame the actual sewing machine is missing. Very old lift-latch doorknob in the basement!! Near the end in the basement it looked like there might have been a room on the right with a little window. I remember in the house I grew up in there was a room in the basement that had a door and a little window up high. My mother told me that it was originally a coal room and that the coal truck had a shute that poured coal in through the window of the room for the coal furnace. Loved the video!! Keep up the good work!
Definitely that build-in record player was from the 60's. It played amazing music n the base was awesome! My late grandparents n aunt owned one. #greatmemories
The problem with a lot of these beautiful old homes is people don't want to pay for maintenance let alone all the repairs. You would have to live for the house! That's why many are unsaleable. Makes me smile at the oooos and ahhhs over the tv/stero systems that my generation had in our homes. Great house great video. Thanks!

I love all the details of that old house (plaster and lath walls, so probably around 100 years old), and they get excited about a shoe, a can of shaving cream, and condiments.
Also I noticed there is lots of water damage ....& perhaps this was small at first when the Dr lived there with his family& perhaps they only patched up the leaks from the roof above indicated the roof was old back then and needed to replaced... & Overtime since the house has been left unattended the leaks get bigger and works its way into the interior causing the plaster to crumble and the wood to rot..} So sad that all these items were left behind... especially the family photo's..... Heartbreaking.....
I'm watching abandoned house videos on Halloween and couldn't resist having a look at this grand old place. What an exquisitely beautiful home, even in it's decaying state. I wonder if it could still be restored, obviously it would cost a small fortune. With all these beautiful old homes that have been abandoned, you know there was some point in time when the place was still restorable, even if costly, and it's just such a shame that the right person didn't come along to buy it and fix it up before it fell into complete ruin. Back in the 1980's the clothes and decor from the Victorian era became very popular again, kind of a reaction to the punk and new wave trends of the time. More conservative folk were liking the gentler Victorian era look. It became very popular to buy old Victorian homes and fix them up during that decade. I wonder if that might have been the case with this home, or if it were passed down thru the family for generations. With knowing the doctors name, maybe you could look up the history on it. It would be really cool if you could do some kind of follow up video on this one, telling what you found out about it. Interesting to see the Holly Hobbie and Cabbage Patch dolls in there from that era. Like Bekah, I always get a kick out of seeing toys, too. Somehow they seem to bring the house to life in some way. What fun it would have been to live in this house in the 1980's if it were in fine shape. All the benefits of the modern times with all the old grandeur of the Victorian architecture. You'd have a room for everything in this one. Like most people, the thing that shocks me the most about abandoned houses is when people leave their old family photos behind. They were probably the Doctors children. I understand that old people die and sometimes the family doesn't want to be bothered to take their stuff, but you would think surely there would be someone in these families who would want the photos. I often see baby photos in them and it's just hard to imagine nobody wants them. I run across old photos from the 70's and 80's in second hand stores like Goodwill, too. It would be so weird to have your photo being sold in Goodwill, or some second hand store. I once came across a painted portrait of what looked like some teenage debutante in one. You could imagine some wealthy family probably paid a small fortune to have it done on her 18th birthday or something. I would still love to know the history behind that. Families are large, hard to believe not one family member was interested in having it. It makes me think the family members just don't know about these photos or something, but weird to think they don't have them and strangers are looking at them instead.
cool vid. you found documents with the doctors name, did you try googling it for public death records and newspaper articles? maybe youd find some info on what happened to him and his family?
They look like a family on a crime show I seen the family was a doctor and they was killed, but not at home while on vacation. I wish I could remember more. Might be helpful I only watch "cold case files" and "Forensic Files"
Wow the cool turntable/tv thing hahaha! I just felt my age! My parents used to own one of those! It's so sad that people have to tear the place apart. I was just watching some explorers from Belgium and the places abandoned where they live are pristine! Not touched, not trashed. Just left beautiful and frozen in time.
That must've been a beautiful home back on its day. The doll you picked up first was Holly Hobby!! Worth some good money. In pretty good condition too.
It looks like the house had a boiler for the radiators as well as fireplaces... The porches would indicate that the house could have been built in the mid to late 1800's, the stone walls in the basement would also support that... Brick walls in the basement were a part of the time period...
You can still just build one from scratch. I bought some house plans for a Victorian but me and the wife decided we didn't like each other any more so the house never got built, lol.

Also..one of the porches with the columns on the interior was enclosed at a later time .. but was originally an opened porch... you can tell by the age of the windows that were added later...

You know for some of us the 80s weren't that long ago. I was raising my children so seeing some of that stuff brings back memories. When born in 52, the 80s seems like yesterday.

*That was an M.D.'s office, probably a home/office - this is, or was, very common for "country doctors". I got my degree in 81, and I have all of the books you found there - most notably, the Medical Clinics in North America series. I had the same copier you saw in the early entryway, it was manufactured in the late 60s or early 70s. The couches on the front porch date to the late 60s and early 70s, and were popularized by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The two "Hoover" vaccuum cleaners were from the 1960s and 1970s respectively*
*My guess as to the age of the place: I would guess, based on the design & style (the frame was bricked, and the inside used lathing - lathing was replaced by sheetrock around 1950), is the house was built around the turn of the 20th century, and was probably used up through the early 1990s.*
*The "mystery equipment" you found in the basement consisted of an old Coal fired furnace (most coal deliveries for these stopped by 1960), and an early central air conditioning hub. While you didn't examine it, Bekah managed to sweep past the electrical panel. That panel used circular glass fuses, and was obsolete (and replaced by breaker systems in most structures in the USA) by 1965.
*By the way, the old scrip pad **_cannot_** be used: assuming the 'doc is dead or retired, the NPI number on the pad (his/her prescribing registration number) will be revoked.*

Very interesting. Things I noticed: A book published in 1946 "A Dark Wood"; syringes that are packaged in a way that were not available too much prior to 1980 (I'm ex o.r. person); wiring in the basement is 1930's to 60's; Boiler is very old...probably late 30's early 40's. I'm wondering about his practice there. It was common in the 60's, and prior, for docs to work out of their homes, and also did house calls. You're probably too young to have experienced that. And these docs were generalists that had to practice in many specialties. I'm betting he was 65+ when he either passed away or had to leave the practice/home. Remember that family picture? Looks like it is from '79, 80, '81. That fellow was about 40, 44 yrs old and it looks that his oldest daughter may have been 20. So, he is too young to be the doc that had the letter to him in the 60's. My guess is he is the son of the doc, or the woman is the daughter of the doc. Why do I think so? If the place was abandoned in '86 ish, why would a 46 to 50 yr old doc, in his prime, leave behind all of that business stuff? He wouldn't. Do you two ever do research on the places you visit? That would be interesting to know who owned the place at the time. Great adventure. You two be careful out there.

Whenever I see these videos...I always wonder what the back story is. Why was it abandoned....why would people just leave their stuff behind...all those pictures, they obviously had family. Just so sad to see such beauty and history in ruins. ...and all the family history , just gone. Very sad

So often if wills aren't left & family fights among siblings, 2nd wives & her family, etc., it can get tied up in court for years. I've also seen property given to people who lived out of state & never came back to the area. It just sat.......and rotted. 😢

The microphone you found in the room, was attached to the General Electric "Progress Line" model radio laying on the floor. There was also a couple of antennas laying around there also I saw. I have serviced those radios over the years, which is why it caught my eye. I love your videos! Obviously was into medical and used the two-way radios for his practice. Probably ran it out of his home. On the basement ceiling I noticed the old style "Knob and Tube" power wires. That was done in the very early days of electric in homes. Before the modern cables like romex we see in homes today. Knob and Tube is attached to ceramic "Knobs" and goes through walls in "Tubes" to protect the wires. Otherwise, touching them in a basement when the power was on could prove deadly to people. There were no markings on them to show which was one was the hot one, Live one, or the return one. The heat in the basement was fuel oil fired steam heat, based on the type of radiators in the home. VERY nice explore! You two are great!
The fireplaces in this place are amazing. That tells me this place is old.
Reading other peoples’ comments is nearly as enjoyable as the awesome videos. Love to hear others’ takes on these places. Definitely a late 1800s home. The couches on the front porch were midcentury modern, late 50s-early 60s. Most of the furniture inside looked very 70s, especially the orange and green floral couches. Those magazines and dolls were 80s relics. On the top floor was a really cool Singer sewing machine stand, minus the sewing machine from around 1900 id guess. These videos are so riveting!

Too bad they didn't later research it's history and do an update. I wonder if the family just moved on or if something truly tragic occurred and that's why it was left with all it's possessions?? It should've been auctioned off. It's truly a shame the home wasn't sold for another family to enjoy. It pains me to see such a beautiful home fall to shambles!!!...

Wow 80's, cracks me up. I forget that's been 30 some years ago. Old to me would be 1920's.
The rag doll with the blue bonnet was Hollie Hobby and the doll head without a body was a Cabbage Patch Kid. Both very popular in the early 80's. Almost every little girl wanted a Cabbage Patch doll for Christmas and stores ran out. Since I couldn't get one at a store I bought one from a gal that made them. Looked cute,but wasn't the " real McCoy " so my little girl was disappointed. She had Holly and later she also had a Cabbage Patch Kid with its adoption papers, ect. All ended ok!🙂

Holly Hobby was my favorite doll when I was a kid! Raggedy Ann was as well! I collect dolls and I think I'm going to try to find those dolls. That was an amazing home! Wish I could clean it up!!
I am old enough to remember both dolls. I still have a Holly Hobbie doll exactly like the one in the video, it's packed away in a box somewhere.
I would suggest that you get an extra battery for your camera. Than you won't worry so much about running out of battery. Also a good flash light. When taking photos, things to shoot, the old fire places, door knobs, window that are different shapes, stair wells. the columns inside and out side of the house. The kittens on the porch where one was peeking out of the porch would have been an adorable shot. Good luck on your next exploration.

It's strange that some of us want to know what happened to these people while others are quite content to just watched a video. But seeing all their possessions . You have to ask the question? What could make them make them just walk away from their lives ? And why couldn't they be bothered to try and find out? Cause in another video of their's but much more unsettling then this one . I ask them if they could look into what happened since they had everything that with a bit of effort we'd probably have a answer to that question now but have never heard back . Such a shame that these families are going to fade into history without even some one trying to make an effort and put some closure to their story . Maybe some one else might come along and fill in what we'd all like to know.
This property had loads of paperwork and names, if we were told the name we could have researched the family ourselves. It leaves us questions as to what happened to them. Nice to have followups on any houses you have researched

Hi Guys, This home was probably built between 1860-1870. Due to the fact that there are fireplaces in every room & back then that was the main source of heat... Radiators happened a bit later after 1880... & I see most of the fireplace mantles were of Marble & some our of wood which indicates this home was built for a very prominent person back in the day... I see there are some of those radiators on the porch etc.. which I'm thinking that perhaps there were scrappers in the area....& they were trying to move it for salvage... or when the Dr's practice closed perhaps someone was intending to rehab and had financial issues & were unable to complete the work... The Dolls you found were the Cabbage Patch and Holly Hobble which was from the early 80's.} Perhaps the Dr who lived & worked in this home passed away & the family moved without being able to sell this home & then again maybe the realitives /family of this Dr did not want to own such a large home..which requires a lot of upkeep & maintenance...Heartbreaking beyond sad that vandals destroyed the inside with graffiti as well as damaging the interior & turning the contents upside down.... I live in a Queen Anne Victorian which was built in 1891... I do know alot about them...Is it possible you could at least tell me which town in Pa so I can check the History of this Home with the Local Historical Society... Only if you are able.. :-) I respect your privacy...

It's probably actually a bit more recent than that, closer to 1900, maybe 1910. The reason for this is that there are so many bathrooms, none of which appear to have been added on later. During that time, closets weren't super common in bedrooms because of wardrobes, or I'd say that maybe they had converted them into bathrooms later on. I've also read that 1800's bathrooms were usually pretty large, but I don't know if that was true in every case. Only the bathroom on the first floor looks like it's newer than the 1920's, probably from the 1950's because of the "sink with the face" and the choice of mint green as the color. I remember reading that people didn't put bathrooms on the 1st floor because hygiene was a more private issue which was confined to the bedroom areas on the 2nd floor. Also, the exterior windows have this "boxy" decorative trim which I found on an old farmhouse near my parents house a few years back. I was able to date that farm house to around 1900-1910 but I can't remember the actual year anymore and the house is long gone so I can't look up the property records anymore to find out.
I live in an 1891 Queen Anne Victorian in Conn and the upstairs bathroom has an original copper tub with lion's feet... the downstairs bathroom was added in later years.. :-)

Most of that furniture is 60s - 70s. But that photo, that really did look 80s! I wonder why all that stuff is still there, and what happened. It is weird, and sad.

Sometimes elderly people end up in nursing homes and think they will be going home, and they never leave them. That is what is sad.
InTheirImage7 I was thinking the same thing!! I live in a huge Farmhouse on 26 acres that was built in 1920 and I've really spruced this home up. I love it!! There is also a little log cabin beside of me that was built in 1849 and it's in amazing condition. I have no neighbors and that's the part that I think I love most! Lol These old houses amaze me and I wish that people wouldn't vandalize them! It's really sad.
My guess is that the people in the pictures were not the doctor, but his kids and grandchildren. Eventually he got old and passed on. Far too often, the heirs are living far away and can't deal with the house easily, or don't want to due to how much stuff there was and how overwhelming it is to go through. So they take what they want and leave the rest behind. If property taxes aren't paid, eventually the county will seize the home and land, and it becomes property of the local government. If it's in rough shape like this one, it can be really hard to get rid of it at auction, because fixing the home up would be a major investment for a new buyer.

The green dishes in the box in the closet upstairs came in Duz Laundry Detergent in the 1950's. My mom had the whole set. In fact, everybody we knew had those dishes.

That porch is beautiful! I love the architecture. It's so classic Victorian. That stereo and TV console was very popular in the 70s and 80s. I would imagine this was such a beautiful home. Some of these items could be antiques. Looks like looters and vandals have been through the house. I really enjoyed this video. This house is amazing. I love your enthusiasm. Beautiful structure. I can imagine how it must have looked in it's heyday when it was first built. I believe the room with all of the overturned sofas, photos and chairs must have been the Dr's office patient waiting room, as it's just off the main entrance. That would explain the many magazines and also children's toys there. Just my guess. Thanks for taking us on your adventures!
This big old house is really impressive and very mysterious! I am usually curious to some degree about previous residents, but this one is such a puzzle, what with the photos, medical stuff, kid toys, etc. Wouldn't it be great if vandals and thieves had left it alone for us to see in it's entirety? Could still be repaired, with lots of money. Beautiful house, lots of property. The amount if vandalism is inexcusable!
I lived in a similar house growing up. It was in the country on acreage & we found out, while doing repairs, it was also owned by a doctor previously. Our house was once in downtown Sacramento, California, a prominent doctor's home. He became alcoholic and lost his license. The home was moved to what was then a very remote area. Although it was a two story when my family purchased it, it had been a 3 story home with maid quarters on the third floor. When it was moved, it could not fit under power lines and some road-ways, so the top floor was taken off. We found lots of old liquor bottles hidden in walls, in the attic (previously 3rd floor) and even under the home (no basements here, but it was set up on cinder blocks). After the doctor lived there, a free-spirit family with many children lived in it & moved out, leaving much of their things in shambles & trash galore. They intended to update the home when they bought it, but lived too free a life-style to follow through. In that respect, it reminds me of what was seen in this video. My parents bought it for very little (basically land value), cleaned it up, and restored it the best we could. It's a beautiful 5,000+ sq foot home which my parents sold when they retired & didn't want to deal with stairs anymore. The huge pocket doors, woodwork, built-ins, and moldings/casings were so very intricate. My worst memories of those years were the Saturdays spent dusting all those detailed cut-outs/grooves. The upkeep was endless, but wish the home was still in our family.

However, it may have been mentioned already, but you should wear respirator masks when you go into these old houses.
I would have skipped all of the junk and went straight to show the architecture and the moldings and woodwork on the inside. When you first see the mansion from the outside, you're like saying to yourself -- "Wow, the inside has to be awesome"? But, then when you did get inside of the mansion -- your video then mainly just focused on the debris and junk in the house.
If you would focus more on the architecture next time and not spend so much time on the debris left in the house -- it would be a lot better. Although, I do appreciate that you both took the time to explore the house -- as I grew up in the south and there are many old mansions that I've always wanted to see the inside of and never had the opportunity.
What kind of camera did you use to film this ? It's obviously a very high-end camera because all the footage is very stabilized and crystal clear. I would love to know the name of the manufacturer and which model it is?
Thanks for making the video -- I did enjoy it very much! I wish that this mansion was salvageable -- but it does appear to have a lot of major damage from the elements and it sits right on a major highway! Very sad. The building of the highway is probably the cause of it being abandoned.

P.S. -- From all of the different sets of "living room furniture" and the different bathrooms on each of the floors -- it appears that this place had been divided up into different apartments. Old mansions did not have that many 'bathrooms' -- most of them just had one large bathroom and it was usually located on the 2nd floor where all of the bedrooms were.
Yes I wish they wouldn't focus on the spiderwebs/debris, just on the dateable items and the actual architecture of the house.
I knew of a mansion in that i was in as a child it was built late 1800s and had many barhrooms this place once was a mansion but may have been split into apts.

This was a cool explore. Ok. This is my take on this beautiful home. I would say it was built in the early to mid 1800s. The doctor that lived there had his office in the home along with his grown children (or child) and the doctors grand children later in his life. By the looks of the waiting room furniture, I would venture to guess that the doctor had his office there since the 50's. He probably passed away and left the house to his grown children who could not care or afford its upkeep.It must have been something in its day. Thats for sure.
This home was built nowhere near the early 1800's. Prior to the late 1880's there was no knob and Tube, they didn't have that kind of construction or electricity, etc. This home was built no early than about 1880. My Georgian Colonial was built in 1823, is one of the oldest homes in the state of OH and the first of its kind coming out of the construction of Log Cabins. By comparison and architecture that home was built about 60 years after mine, that is based on the framing techniques among other things.
I see a lot of comments on here where people want to “fix” the place up. I don’t believe they understand what that would entail. That house would need to be completely gutted. All the floors torn up, walls torn down, the whole 9 yards. That is, if it’s even structurally sound and I have high doubts on that! I’m sure it would cost less to build a replica!
17.5 minutes in and I see an antique bassinet, then a beautiful marble fireplace (love all of them in the house)!! Next was the antique metal gas room heater. LOVE the split staircases!! I grew up in a house that had radiators that were plain and the ornate radiator sitting in the bathroom at the top of the stairs is just GORGEOUS!! That house was approximately 100 years old in the '70's. This house looks much older because of the doorknobs. The doorknobs in our house were the glass ones that looked like gems. Looking at the hole in the wall between the bathroom and the bedroom, it looks like there may have been copper pipes that were stolen for their value. The red and yellow game looks like an old connect four game. On the third floor there is an antique Singer sewing machine table with the pedal that operated the sewing machine! What a shame the actual sewing machine is missing. Very old lift-latch doorknob in the basement!! Near the end in the basement it looked like there might have been a room on the right with a little window. I remember in the house I grew up in there was a room in the basement that had a door and a little window up high. My mother told me that it was originally a coal room and that the coal truck had a shute that poured coal in through the window of the room for the coal furnace. Loved the video!! Keep up the good work!

The problem with a lot of these beautiful old homes is people don't want to pay for maintenance let alone all the repairs. You would have to live for the house! That's why many are unsaleable. Makes me smile at the oooos and ahhhs over the tv/stero systems that my generation had in our homes. Great house great video. Thanks!

I love all the details of that old house (plaster and lath walls, so probably around 100 years old), and they get excited about a shoe, a can of shaving cream, and condiments.
Those couches on the front porch are probably Danish 1960's, teak wooden legs and very expensive if redone right.
Also I noticed there is lots of water damage ....& perhaps this was small at first when the Dr lived there with his family& perhaps they only patched up the leaks from the roof above indicated the roof was old back then and needed to replaced... & Overtime since the house has been left unattended the leaks get bigger and works its way into the interior causing the plaster to crumble and the wood to rot..} So sad that all these items were left behind... especially the family photo's..... Heartbreaking.....

I'm watching abandoned house videos on Halloween and couldn't resist having a look at this grand old place. What an exquisitely beautiful home, even in it's decaying state. I wonder if it could still be restored, obviously it would cost a small fortune. With all these beautiful old homes that have been abandoned, you know there was some point in time when the place was still restorable, even if costly, and it's just such a shame that the right person didn't come along to buy it and fix it up before it fell into complete ruin. Back in the 1980's the clothes and decor from the Victorian era became very popular again, kind of a reaction to the punk and new wave trends of the time. More conservative folk were liking the gentler Victorian era look. It became very popular to buy old Victorian homes and fix them up during that decade. I wonder if that might have been the case with this home, or if it were passed down thru the family for generations. With knowing the doctors name, maybe you could look up the history on it. It would be really cool if you could do some kind of follow up video on this one, telling what you found out about it. Interesting to see the Holly Hobbie and Cabbage Patch dolls in there from that era. Like Bekah, I always get a kick out of seeing toys, too. Somehow they seem to bring the house to life in some way. What fun it would have been to live in this house in the 1980's if it were in fine shape. All the benefits of the modern times with all the old grandeur of the Victorian architecture. You'd have a room for everything in this one. Like most people, the thing that shocks me the most about abandoned houses is when people leave their old family photos behind. They were probably the Doctors children. I understand that old people die and sometimes the family doesn't want to be bothered to take their stuff, but you would think surely there would be someone in these families who would want the photos. I often see baby photos in them and it's just hard to imagine nobody wants them. I run across old photos from the 70's and 80's in second hand stores like Goodwill, too. It would be so weird to have your photo being sold in Goodwill, or some second hand store. I once came across a painted portrait of what looked like some teenage debutante in one. You could imagine some wealthy family probably paid a small fortune to have it done on her 18th birthday or something. I would still love to know the history behind that. Families are large, hard to believe not one family member was interested in having it. It makes me think the family members just don't know about these photos or something, but weird to think they don't have them and strangers are looking at them instead.

They look like a family on a crime show I seen the family was a doctor and they was killed, but not at home while on vacation. I wish I could remember more. Might be helpful I only watch "cold case files" and "Forensic Files"

It's so sad that people have to tear the place apart. I was just watching some explorers from Belgium and the places abandoned where they live are pristine! Not touched, not trashed. Just left beautiful and frozen in time.
That must've been a beautiful home back on its day. The doll you picked up first was Holly Hobby!! Worth some good money. In pretty good condition too.
It looks like the house had a boiler for the radiators as well as fireplaces... The porches would indicate that the house could have been built in the mid to late 1800's, the stone walls in the basement would also support that...
Brick walls in the basement were a part of the time period...
The house is no older than 1880's that is clearly identifiable by the construction techniques.
The columns in the front "hallway", both down and upstairs, were originally porches and not part of the interior.

Also..one of the porches with the columns on the interior was enclosed at a later time .. but was originally an opened porch... you can tell by the age of the windows that were added later...
