Fun fact, China actually got there hands on one of the AMSL older models. They took it apart in the hope to reverse engineer it so the could learn how it worked and build there own machines. They couldn't figure it out and never be able to put it back together.

Adyen is a over hyped and way to expensive stock. Let me clarify. Paypal does the same and that stock went down from 308 high to 50-ish. And when you look at who founded Adyen you might conclude that there is a lot on the books in the way of networking and political support. Oh, and Adyen is underpricing PayPal. That is why Amazon and others went to Adyen. However, that also shows a big logic problem. How can a company like Adyen be worth more than PayPal if they do the mostly the same and are competing against eacht other? Nah, Adyen should be around 250-300 euro's compared to the competition on the payment market.

As I reacted on the original video: Rotterdam, while having it's own chamber of the VOC, was not nearly as important as he made it out to be until 1850. It was then when the canal was dug that connected the port to the North Sea, and Rotterdam could expand and integrate it's harbor with the railways where other cities (Marseille, Antwerp, Hamburg, London) could not. And later, when shipping containers became a thing, Rotterdam still had space to build harbors that could cater to that.
And a lot of the video footage and images they use are plain wrong! King William the 4th? The photo they show is that of someone in 18th century clothes, not 13th century! Not to mention that there never was a king William 4th... there was a Count William 4th of Holland, Zeeland and Hainaut, who granted city rights to Rotterdam (and was in fact the 3rd count to do so after Wolfert van Borselle in 1299 and Willem the 3rd in 1329, but the other 2 city rights were retracted)

@@Arnaud58 I'm not going to fact check the entire video, too much work. Here's one example: the Nieuwe Waterweg canal which enabled Rotterdam to expand its port to become one of the largest in the world was completed in 1872. It didn't exist in 1300 and it didn't exist in the age of the VOC spice trade. In the VOC era, Rotterdam was just one of many ports along the rivers and the coastline. So the entire storyline which ties Rotterdam to the global dominance of the VOC and the spice trade is nonsense. In the video, a map shows the location of Rotterdam, only the dot for the location is actually where Amsterdam is which was the most important port for the VOC trade. Charlie noticed that, too.
It is apparent that the maker of the video has put a lot of work in collecting facts, but the narrative he built around those facts is too fictional.

The problem for The Netherlands was having a small population. Much smaller than countries like Germany, Great Britain, France, etc. and thus being unable to conquer and populate large areas. So the Dutch focussed on control. Farmer protests didn't exist in the 17th. and 18th, century. Yrs, the stock market was invented in The Netherlands and the first one was established in Amsterdam. Yes, and Philips is headquartered in Eindhoven.

  • @Greavers

As a person from Eindhoven, the main city next to Veldhoven I can say, ASML is a great company which branched of Philips. The video really makes it look like ASLM is run by people from Veldhoven which is not entirely true. It's a huge company run with "the best" people from all over the world. House prices skyrocketed in Eindhoven just because ASLM is buying houses for their Expats to house. Eindhoven/Veldhoven is some sort of the Silicon Valley of the Netherlands. Also the Netherlands doesnt home 19 mil but 18 mil people. The thing that we're nr5 on export doesnt mean we produce it here, we just buy and ship for more money etc. Still a decent video and i'd say it's also a scary monopoly to be in. China even tried and copy the latest machines from ASLM but the tech is so advanced they still didn't get it work yet.

So many smart people concentrated not only in Veldhoven, but in other cities in the Netherlands as well. ASML is a very advanced high-tech company as been told in this video. The Dutch are responsable for a number of inventions throughout the last few centuries; back in the time of the VOC the Dutch build innovative ships that could reach ports all over the world through shallow water. The first stock exchange in Amsterdam, create land where once was water, windmills that could drain the land dry, dykes, dambs etc. In the modern era, the last century ; the Dutch invented the cassette tape, video, cd, and at last but not least the microchip! And the Dutch keep inventing and improving on everything!!

You will be astounded and laugh a lot. Especially about the sea wars with the English. England only came to the fore AFTER the Dutch king became also King William, in an event called The Glorious Revolution of 1688. This William brought with him over 40.000 people who informed the English about how to build better ships, forge better cannons, finance large enterprises, run exchanges, and many other stuff. Only then the British Empire started to grow.

Fun fact, we don't just control China, many others too.
Also, since we shouldn't offend, so lets not call it "control", we just "guide" the big boys.
ASML is only a small piece of the pie, we have so many of these kind of things (being 'best in class' in certain markets/products/etc) that when you chuck all those things together we suddenly have serious 'weight' and means to control/guide others, wich is how we get things done in much much bigger countries, despite being a tiny country that really shouldn't have this much control.
Spoiler alert: giving up our empire was a bit of a ruse, instead we just changed to easier tactics & they are starting to bear some serious fruits now, sorry y'all, just try and ride our coattails i guess 😉

USA does design most advanced chips which are manufactured in Taiwan with machines made in The Netherlands. It is a global enterprise. EU and USA should do more manufacturing within borders and we are safe from China taking over Taiwan. Better invest in chip factories than weapons to fight China. The CEO of the Taiwan factory already said when we stop the factory it cannot be started up again, not for China and not for US/EU. Hence we should start using the damn machines ourselves, to the max.

It is correct. There are appr 19.000.000 people in NL up to this day. The number you mention is excluding refugees and immigrants from Ukraïne, Syria, Africa etc who are still waiting for their permits. These people are not included and the nr increased by appr 2 million. They are non registered citizins. Most of them are accomodated by immigration centers located allover Netherlands and lot of them are still illegal who are living with their family members in the refugee centers hiding from the police and their consulate. I received this last info from the local police departments as well. Its hard to find the illegals that are on rampage stealing and commiting petty crimes bc they have no identity nor registration so that makes it easier bc they will and cannot get convicted by law. Very crooked but reality in many countries

Well forget about the history part, because it doesn't make any sense.
And yes, the Netherlands do have advanced technology on multiple branches of science.
They are one of the big tech centers of the world. As a result a company like ASML has become a world leader in chips manufacturing machines. Key is to use this knowledge to its advantage, and to guard it against copy. Because it involves many disciplines of science and precision, it is not very likely China, US or any other can do this in the near future. So for the time being, it holds a world monopoly on this technique.

I think the best thing the Netherlands could do by now would be to improve its education. After all, our money and power really comes from technological development, but our schooling still focuses on language rather than the maths required for technological development. Even though our schools are very much behind on maths, this already is our main source of income. Imagine where we could be if we actually prioritized maths like Singapore.

Very cool video! But it wasn’t king William IV of the Netherlands, that granted Rotterdam city rights. The Netherlands was still part of the Holy Roman Empire during the 14th century. Rotterdam a small town in the county of Holland, and was administered by count William IV in 1340. We’ve never had a king William IV by the way, simply because king Willem Alexander does not like to be called Willem IV. As his ancestor was king William III.

  • @peterhurd9667
    @peterhurd9667 ปีที่แล้ว

Some parts of the video are indirectly misleading. ASML on its part is dependant on Zeiss, they are the only company capable of making the mirrors to the precision neccessary to such advanced chips.
ASML is owned by Intel, TMC, Samsung and a number of American hedge funds. Strictly speaking the Dutch government and Veldhoven have very little say in sales and developement strategy of ASML.
The Dutch empire was the leading nation of the slave trade, untill the Brits wrested that from their hands after a third war, ostensibly about trade routes, but those routes controlled the slave trade.
At one point in time all aldermen and councillors of the city of Amsterdam were slaveholders.
The succes in the spice trade came at enormous cost the the inhabitants of a number of islands in south east Asia who were wiped out by soldiers of the VOC, the richest company in history which had its own army to plunder and opress the inhabitants of the countries they colonized.
The Dutch even sent an army to re-conquer Indonesia after having been occupied by Nazi germany.
It was the American government which put an end to that by threatening to withhold financial aid through the Marshal program.
The Dutch have only recently made a start of recognizing the dark side of our history in, amongst others, south east asian countries.
It took untill 1972 for the country of Surinam to gain independance. Don't get me started on Dutch complicity with, and foundation of apartheid South Africa.

Hey man, I really enjoyed watching the video. But video you were discussing speaks about King Willem IV. But in that time NL was a Republic, Willem IV was a Stuart, not a king.
And, ASML does give NL some power, but as you'd expect, in the end NL will listen and oblige to whatever the US or China tells them to do. ASML might be powerful, but the rest of the economy isn't and our military is kinda worthless ATM. I love the idea, but NL is far from powerful.

I had her broker ID checked and she’s fully verified! So I began with a few bucks, only to get huge returns in a month. I reinvested and now I get short term monthly returns… So glad I don’t rely on pay checks anymore.
