It's great to have this symphony available to join the companion 2nd and 4th on record. I'd been wanting to hear it, and I'm not disappointed; it's a fine opus with an effective buildup in the last movement.

I love this guy's music and listen to it a lot. Is there a section in this work that is identical to a section in "The Mysterious Moutain"?

As I recall, I listened to "Mysterious Mountain" on radio in 1967, it was later retitled "Symphony #2,.

I like this a lot. And I'm not taken with everything Hovhaness did.

They do if you only listen to one of them.

No they don't. Symphonies 9, 10 and 11 really could be by three different composers. However, Nos. 26 to 67 are more similar to each other, and are often too long for their material. It hasn't helped his reputation in academia.

Pretty boring tbh. Is Alan American or something?

Genius is never boring. You probably only listened to the first two minutes and missed the best parts. Alan Hovhaness is one of the greatest American composers of all time.

***** I was thinking of the main motif in the 1st movement. I could well be misinterpreting though
