I hope they can do something about this. Even as a Kenyan traveller sometimes when I go to the beach I feel overwhelmed by people who don’t take no for an answer.
Week ago back to Europe, Lithuania. Had a week holiday in Malindi. Your point about beach boys, is very important and i don't understand, why goverment do not solved this problem. As you say lots of tourists stay in hotels, go to safari or other activities with guides, but avoided to go alone in beach, because of this sellers. The white sandy beaches are just like the Maldives, for a fraction of the cost. (The coconut should have been ksh 100. Disappointing to see the locals take advantage of the tourists). i have never been to Diani beach but i do think it is stunningly beautiful!! Kenya in a small country but there is so much diversity in the landscape, it is just a very beautiful country! The locals are so much more friendly and kids all smile in Kenya. (Unfortunately the tourists have spoiled the kids offering them money and chocolates etc, so they ask for it now). The Tourism Ministry needs to fix the problem with the harassing and intimidating hawkers.
Hi Gabi, me and my family were just in Diani too. As you said, the beach looks like paradise, BUT, as soon as your feet touch the sand you are hounded by the salesmen. If you tell them no, they walk alongside you still trying to sell to you, if you tell them you have no money on you they then ask you for food and if you say no to that we even got asked to give them our clothes. I tried telling some of them that this was my first holiday in 5 years and they were spoiling it for me and my family, but they just kept going and going. Really detracted from our stay and we will NEVER return because of this. Sad but true. Cheers Mark and Jane.

Yes Diani beach is amazing. Though far from everyone else. The locals. Otherwise Mombasa beach on the North is beautiful too and more busy with both locals and tourists
I visited Diani Beach in December 2020 and gad a similar reaction to its beauty and lush white sand. I dined at Howards, which looks like the place you were dining at too. In January 2021 i visited Mombasa and enjoyed that as well. Im yet ti visit Watamu. That motorcycle rental is priced well ($10/day) i may get that next time i visit. New sub loving the content.
