    We certainly need a barbel underwater series! Imagine what these will do with those 1.20m leaders! I guess there would also be many lessons learned. Absolutely my favourite underwater videos. You can take such a lot with you even if you`re not a bream fisherman.

    • @DjDolHaus86
      @DjDolHaus86 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I've always felt that the length of the hooklength in running water is more about positioning the hook bait where the feeder contents are spilling out downstream (ie. the faster the water is running, the longer the hooklength needs to be because the current is pulling the feeder contents further downstream). To my mind the hooklength is always going to be trailing reasonably straight with the current as long as it hasn't got hung up behind a rock or in some weed. I'd be interested to see this tested though

    • @randomidiot8142

      @@DjDolHaus86 but many times the hook bait is not in the feed pile and still gets picked up.

    This one is a game changer. I'm a carp angler and mostly use helicopter rigs. I did change my end rig after this video (my previous version was simmilar to yours from the beginning of this video) and the results are astonishing! 90% baits ends up with fish being hooked in :) Previously the percentage was significantly lower.

For years I've been using short hooklengths & moving my feeder & sworn blind the movement/disturbance got me bites! • @simonmoorcroft1417
    @simonmoorcroft1417 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Looks like optimum hook link length is dependent on water depth and whether the fish are up in the water.
    I assume Irish venues are deep so the fish are off bottom in a 'comfortable' temperature thermocline. Bait particles obvious takes a considerable time to reach the bottom. Thus catching on the drop is the norm. In shallow water the fish will be close to the bottom and more inclined to follow the bait down.
    I watched 'Matrix Submerged' a few years ago. I remember that they showed that even on a 3ft mono hooklink the hookbait would land within 12 inches of the feeder. The hookbait typical landed 1/3rd of the hook lengths distance from the feeder. Soft hook lengths always follow the feeder down unless they are kicked away. I've never used a hooklength longer than 12' on any stillwater less than 8ft deep ever since I saw that. You are simply giving the fish too much slack hook length with which to eject the bait.
    I now use Lee Kerry's method of using a short 6' hook link and a 10Ib feeder mono boom with the running feeder sat against two float stops up the boom. I can vary the hook length by moving the stops and the thicker boom helps straighten everything out and reduce tangles.
    Unless your on a deep venue don't bother with long hook links unless the fish start to feed shallow in your groundbait cloud.

    • @TackleguruTV
      @TackleguruTV  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the detailed reply Simon. we'd love to do more in different circumstances, depths and where other variables come into play. Theres a lot to be said for that stiff boom and rig at the terminal end that is for sure, its something Lee Kerry has been doing for a long while to be fair, and he catches a fair few on a feeder!

    • @simonmoorcroft1417
      @simonmoorcroft1417 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TackleguruTV Thanks for the reply. Good to see you at 'The Big One' the other day.
      I'm a big fan of 'underwater' content and the X-safe system. Been pondering how to incorporate the stems into free running feeder setup.
      Putting the feeder link on a short hollow free running sleeve that 'docks' with the back end of stem seems like an idea. It would create a momentary bolt effect before it slides away and may even let the elastic have its useful bungee effect.

    Unbelievably brilliant last years underwater changed my fishing used the hybrid feeder fishing at night for bream landed me multiple doubles and a 14lb2oz pb! This year's video is already inspired me to try something new cant wait to see the results on the next one! Can you also do a short video showing the whole rig with the fluro boom please. Great job lads really enjoyed watching this one!

    Great to see. the underwater footage, only today my old Apprentise master was telling me how him and his mate became pretty high up in the bream fishing matches, (he said the matches where often 100 peggers). basically was saying how the bites where often so small most people didn't see them in the gallery watching, he said he always used a marker board, which I do remember because I copied him when I just started match fishing at about. 16 with a small club, and how he developed his own style paternoster rig with very short hook length. That was. 30 plus years ago, it makes so much sense know what he was saying after seeing this excellent video. I am Going to ask him tomorrow if he put a few turns on his reel after feeder settled to position the hook length, I am sure he did.

    I'm predominantly a carp angler I'm moving more towards pleasure style fishing and I love the guru content. Learning loads from these vids. From a carpers point wouldn't a short flouro rig on a Heli help also fish a lead clip running on a short rig work or does these tactics not comply with the rules. Keep up the good work!

    49.30 was blowing my mind. So so many fish in searching for not a lot of bait. And it's impossible isn't it to know it! At that stage you'd want a huge carpet of bait to hold them, but then it also shows that the regular casting also does the job. I suppose if you stood in the street and your favourite food kept falling from the sky you really wouldn't be far away for long. Whereas if you went and there was 70 Burgers you might not fancy it so much!
