Holy fuck, I'm newish to fishing and you're the first TH-cam angler ice found that actually explains things. Everyone else just says, "This is the rig, now watch this edit of me casting and catching". This makes you the first angler I've actually subbed to. Thanks and keep it up
New to Bass fishing and have bought a fishing kayak. Like your teaching style and appreciate the informative videos! Any kids who doesn't have someone to teach them...your videos will definitely help them!
Hands down one of the most informative videos I have watched so far on bass fishing. Just getting into bass fishing and just learned more in the 27 minutes of this video than I have in hours of watching TH-cam. Keep up the great work and thank you. Can't wait to get out there and put these to the test.
I'm a northern California fisherman as well and I have to say your videos have taught me so much. And since we fish the same waters your advice is even more helpful. Thank you for making these videos!!
I have heard countless people swear by the ned rig but have never fished one myself until yesterday. I went out to my local pond where I have been skunked the last 3 times I have been out put on a ned rig and within the first 20 minutes I had caught 3 decent sized largemouth. I am a believer. It works just fish it slow and they will bit.
hey IF, wanted to let you know you are the best youtube channel i have seen so far for dispensing clear information that's useful, especially for beginners, with the pandemic and everything happenin right i've taken up fishing again after like 7 years break and you are my main source if info! thanks again.
My girlfriend and i usually fish for catfish. She tells me she wants to start bass fishing one day...pretty sure ive watched most of your bass videos now. They are incredibly in depth and i love them, keep it up
Watched about six of your videos on Bass fishing last week. Headed up to Navajo Lake in NM and caught 40+ small mouth over two days. I really started nailing them when i utilized your advice on top water and wacky rig. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I just ordered my first baitcasting reel. I feel confident enough to give it a shot after watching the tutorials you have!
I had lot's of doubt that I could do this, but this is the BEST teaching videos, I am in So Cal and can't wait to try what I have learned. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
I came up on this about 3weeks ago. I was desperate and not catching anything at all. I took the wacky rig from this and have prob caught over 50 bass lol. Thank you for this and I caught a 5 pounder today. I plan on coming back to this video each time I get confidence in a bait and getting better at another method thank you again!
Nick, I watch all of your vids and have gone over this one several times. I get something extra from it every time I view it. It is, richly, informative and entertaining, as are your other vids. Love to finesse fish and always seek new ideas. Keep makin' 'em, man.
This is the best video I have found for how to just catch bass. most videos are all about BIG bass and odd techniques but this video shows how to just catch bass. if you go out and get the stuff for these 4 rigs and you fish them, you will catch a ton of bass. Thanks Nick! You were the first ever youtuber I watched (you taught me and my dad to bass fish) and your my absolute favorite TH-camr! You also inspired me to make my own youtube channel and got me back into making videos when I met you at the 2018 B.A.S.S Master Classic and you subscribed to me channel :) Keep it up nick!
Your videos are outstanding. You have a way of explaining techniques for bass fishing that rookies can understand. Only downside is you just cost me about $100 at Bass Pro Shops. Thank god for curb side pickup in this post corona world. I’ll let you know if I catch anything next weekend. Goi g to try all the different rigs.
God job brother!! I like the way you explain things. I'm in southern California and I'm having a hard time getting a bite . I'm new at bass fishing , my PB is 4lb. lol , on the Ned rig believe it or not. And now I'm hooked!! I love bass fishing!! Thanks for the info.
Went out today its been about 5 years since I’ve bass’s fished .. went out to a neighborhood lake around 1pm , alittle too hot , for 1 bite , left came back at 530-645 and slayed it with 7 -2-3 lbers, and 2 prolly 4-7 lbers I missed... so it was nice , such a great time..
very good informative. i have been bass fishing for years but didn't use or fully understand these techniques until watching this video. i cant wait to get back out on the water and try these new skills thanks for the tips
Great video! I saw another where they put the hook slightly under the "skin" of the lure and then was told to push the barb through the "skin" and then put it back in, so it is kind of the best of both worlds. I guess something could be said about this possibly messing with the motion of the lure...
Love the wacky worm, but on a baitcaster 10 lb line. Still, today was in the 30s but went kayak fishing anyway and fished with the spinning rod 6 lb line. Just don't like the feel of it but fished anyway. Nothing. Went to my baitcaster and just felt at home much more in feel. Finally caught an 18" 2 1/2 lb smallmouth. Did what you said, just reel in the hook and lean into it. Thanks man.
Thanks. This was very informative. Particularly the last one (Ned Rig?) Wasn't aware of that one in that detail. Took me back and made me rethink my tactics and rigs. Dankie.
Nice information and I'll try out these different presentations. Quick question what are the weather and water conditions for these techniques: i.e. muddy, stained or clear water/ windy, mild wind, calm/ sunny or cloudy / water temp etc. etc. etc.?
Nick, you are a great teacher and have great appeal to "average Joe fisherman." Always enjoy following you in your efforts to help us "duffers" get ahead. Sure would like to see you do a video that focuses on Ned, Neko and shakey-rigs by themselves. This vid did a good job, in general, but I'm sure you could do a great one on the across-the-board applications and strategies of their use. Keep making those fantastic videos.
Nick, what about using a weedless shaky head trick worm? I am going to experiment using one, and wondered how effective it would be in a small bass pond, with thick cover underwater? Tell me your thoughts...
Though this was uploaded over two years ago this is the first time I get to view it. Well explained and for me very informative. I am a recent subscriber. Thank you for the information.
great instructional video up to the information on the use of the ned rig...ned rig uses a flat jig head with a floating 2 1/2 to a 3 inch piece of plastic bait like a piece of floating worm...Z-man has kind of cornered the market on the ned rig...also normally uses lighter weights like 1/5 oz...ned rig is designed for lots of fish, not big fish...anyway that's what the big boys down at the boat ramp said...
Excellent tips...reminded me of some things I have forgot to do. My problem is that i shore fish 90% of the time...so there are times when I want to fish the very light setups but then I can't get the distance on my cast :(
Stren! i never hear people bring up stren. I have brought in a 36 inch drum on 6lb stren mono. Never had another line that tough for the finesse and having no memory. plus i have never had line last as long as stren yet biodegrade if left in the water when discarded.
I'm just starting to fish, I have 2 daughters. It was there idea to pick it up, but I don't even know where to start. I'm in el paso tx. Any tips, just got my license. I'm doing fresh water fishing. I heard there's catfish, crappie, bluegill, carp and bass.
Thx Nick for this good video. For dropshot fishing in winter here in central calif, what do u think for the length of the tag end with the weight? 6 inches? I like fishing ned rig and dropshot at lake amador from the bank, if your familiar with this lake its full of slate type of rocks, so i lose a lot of bottom contact plastic baits, like ned rig and dropshot, shaky head...Do u have any advise for a bank fisherman on lake amador with all the rock snags?
3 years back I got married and became a step father to a little girl and a teenage boy. They both wanna fish(particularly my girl lol) and what I know about fishing could be written on the point of a pen lol. Anyway me catching fish=me being my girls hero...therefore you helping me figure out how=YOU being MY hero lol. Heres a sub, keep em coming please. Very comprehensive info by the way..sry bout the long comment
if someone were fishing in a lake where it was primarily small mouth would you change this list at all (say tubes jigs for example). I seem to have more sucess hopping tubes and sometimes hair jigs than I do with senkos. Im starting to use drop shot although Im not as effective at it yet. I also get a lot on superflukes in the deep ultra clear water I fish. Im interested in the ned rig, seems similar to the concept of tubes although maybe a little less "hoppy." but seems like it would imitate crawfish (which are the main forage along with perch fry).
Hello Nick, thank you for the explanations which are extraordinarily detailed. The video is 6 years old. Is the Zoom Trick Worm still in your top picks?
do you ever fish castaic? I live right by the lake and I'm having a heel of a time getting hooked up from the bank, I was hoping you might have some lake specific tips
Nick - what makes you decide to use one of these over the others. Wacky vs. weightless texas vs. ned etc. Also is there one that is better for smallmouth vs. largemouth and vice versa.
Hey nick I have a johnny Morris micro guide rod but my question is WHATS A GOOD KNOT AND TEST SO IT DOESNT GET STUCK IN THE MICRO GUIDE..or did I make a huge mistake on purchasing such rod🤔
Eric Villasenor I have some micro guide rods and I don't have any problems with a uni getting through it. Just take your time tying it and make sure the knot is SUPER LUBRICATED when cinching the knot down. Cinch slowly and adjust the loops in the knots while you're doing it to make sure it's perfect
I'm new to fishing and this shit is so confusing to me. I just learned today that using a clip swivel is bad apparently. I'm now going to tie a fluorocarbon leader. I want to use a drop shot from a shore of a lake. Do I have to cast it and reel it in all the time or could I just let it sit out there? I want to use a live worm sometimes too. What do rig do I use if I just want to cast a worm out there(for bass) and leave it in the water while I have a beer?
I recently bought my first spinning reel to throw senkos and try drop shot rigs. I ended up spooling on 10 pound fluorocarbon. Will this be ok for drop shot rigs? I bought 10 because I figured it would be a good middle ground for when I’m throwing senkos around structure. I’m almost to the point where I’m going to start using mono due to the dang price and superior abrasion resistance haha.
what is your go to line for an all around fishing for these rigs . how do I know when I need to change line and not the presentation or baits and what not. I'm more of a crank bait and spinner bait guy but I've always fished with 10lb line. recently put on 30lb braid for frog fishing. is that really necessary to have a heavy line. not sure I like the braided line. having a hard time with the poppers and that braided line. seems to over pull the bait and Im constantly trying to catch up with it. what is the trick to keeping that bait popping and not pulling it through the water on that braided line. I noticed right away that line has no give. very sturdy line and I do like that. very responsive but I'm not sure how to handle it.
Im an experienced bank bass angler and 90% my bites are on the mid to close retrieve. Seldom on the first drop and reels. I cast 45 degrees out at most or usually parallel.

Hello, big fun of your videos.... I have a question for you. what do you think about a drop shot/shaky head combo? i don't see a lot people doing it or talking about it.
Holy fuck, I'm newish to fishing and you're the first TH-cam angler ice found that actually explains things. Everyone else just says, "This is the rig, now watch this edit of me casting and catching". This makes you the first angler I've actually subbed to. Thanks and keep it up

Appreciate that Bill!
Once I heard the intro music I automatically liked and subscribed. I’m a Texas boy! 🤘🏼✊🏻
You do one heck of a job covering the subject. Can't think of anyone doing it better.
I'm an advanced bass fisherman in Ontario Canada and your videos are great. Not only for beginners.
Keep up the great work.

Very rare that I agree with everything said in a fishing video but I gotta say very spot-on and "informative ". Thanks. Great job!
Ed Forbes thank you!
Can you please do a video on lures, and effective water temperatures to use them.
Mountain BowHunting yes I will
I had lot's of doubt that I could do this, but this is the BEST teaching videos, I am in So Cal and can't wait to try what I have learned. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

mike craig thanks brother! Will do!
Love the attention to retrieval and setting the hook on different baits small mistakes I make brought to light. Thanks and keep it coming.
Appreciated brother I fish at a pond near my house that's pretty opened up and wide it's raining today but when it stops I'mma try these rigs
Dude this is the most descriptive and helpful advice I've seen yet. Exactly the type of help I was looking for!
Hi Nick, I am from South Africa, started bass fishing recently. I am enjoying your videos quite alot, super informative. Just wanna say thanks!

Letting the Texas rig sink to the bottom and waiting before tapping rod seems obvious but is a nuance that is important to landing bass. Great video

Was fishing plastic red shad worms , with Texas rigged.
great advice! rainbow worm on a drop shot is a key setup in cali.
very good informative. i have been bass fishing for years but didn't use or fully understand these techniques until watching this video. i cant wait to get back out on the water and try these new skills thanks for the tips

Great. Can you do top four top water and mid-depth baits. Keep em' coming, quality video, info, and tid-bits. Thanks.
Ur videos are amazing g and I love how serious and focused u are about fishing
Just found you, well done. BUT what about a swivel or a swivel hook? Yes or No and if Yes where to place it? And Leader or no leader?
Thank you
What is the last bait you hooked up to the NED rig at about 23:50 in the video? Thanks
This winter im really struggling. Im trying to catch bass but I cant. I am going to use your tips and hopefully catch a bass. Thanks.
From Florida I enjoy your videos. I’ve learned much and doing well with the techniques you’ve taught

question? for you Nick, will bass eat crawfish style baits even if that's not a food source in the body of water your fishing in
Great videos! It is hard to find really informative fishing youtubers on the west coast, especially near the bay area where I live. Subbed!
You rock we tried the drop shot with the zoom wacky style and caught 3 in 10 mins.
On the drop shot rig and wacky worm...what size worm? 4",5",6",6 1/2" by the way I live in North Texas if that matters.
Excellent tips...reminded me of some things I have forgot to do. My problem is that i shore fish 90% of the time...so there are times when I want to fish the very light setups but then I can't get the distance on my cast :(

Sir Bass Thumb thank you!
Hey nick I have a johnny Morris micro guide rod but my question is WHATS A GOOD KNOT AND TEST SO IT DOESNT GET STUCK IN THE MICRO GUIDE..or did I make a huge mistake on purchasing such rod🤔
Eric Villasenor the downside is no knot to knot works well in micro guide. It's best to just run a 2' leaded if using one.
I feel your pain. I too bought a rod with micro guides. Its the last one Ill ever own. Pain in the ass with little to to benefit that I can see.
Use an FG knot. it's the smallest diameter knot available and arguably the strongest if done right.
GorhamAirsoft thanks for your suggestion..I REALLY do appreciate it👍🏻
Eric Villasenor I have some micro guide rods and I don't have any problems with a uni getting through it. Just take your time tying it and make sure the knot is SUPER LUBRICATED when cinching the knot down. Cinch slowly and adjust the loops in the knots while you're doing it to make sure it's perfect

Thank you for a very helpful video. I am new at bass fishing and am learning much from your videos. Thanks again!
Informative fisherman what about the Tokyo rig?
Fantastic video! Learned a ton of little tricks that I never even considered
Great video on drop shotting....my favorite technique! Love to throw a drop shot year round.
Thanks for the tip. I'm new to using the drop shot and the other ones you mentioned
Im an experienced bank bass angler and 90% my bites are on the mid to close retrieve. Seldom on the first drop and reels. I cast 45 degrees out at most or usually parallel.
Pro tip for you, tie a ned rig at the bottom of your drop shot instead of a drop shot weight! It's killerrrrrr for finding fish when conditions are tough or in the heat of summer
Josh Kroll I like your style
Thanks for breaking every bait and lure down step by step. It helps me a lot lo e your videos cause you do this
I can attest to the success of these finess techniques
How do you decide if you should use a casting or spinning set reel?
if you are fishing a weight on your drop shot , what difference does the weight of the worm make
Dumb Question, but do you have any videos or tutorials on rigging the dropshot?
i have yet to find a good video explaining line. each kind, what its for an what it does, the test lbs when where an why to use certain lbs test on certain rigs, water, an is lower test lbs strong eough to handle bigger fish or is heavier
test always more durable or is lower lbs test of other line like fluoro just as strong as high test lbs mono or is all the same. love the vids very helpful keep it up. thanks
are you using the thin or thick Mosq. hook
Zoom finesse worms are my favorite. never tried drop shoting or wacky rigging them. Only Texas rigged.
on dropshots I use Roboworm or Biospawn and they work just fine. Nice video!
👍 great video my brutha! Is the #5 rig the Umbrella rig? Or Tokyo rig? Just wondering.
You said a good drop shot worm is the Zoom Trick Worm do you mean the salty ones or the "original" which I think has no salt?
I'd go no salt. I always go normal.
Can you use a live worm with the drop shot?
Can you do a video showing how to tell you when have a bite on slack line?
thanks for this!! any benefit on not using the o ring for a wacky rig?
Was that a zman Hula stick on the Ned rig?
I automatically subscribed soon as i heard "Still Tippin"
The Bass Pro stik-o is such a good value
hell yea Nick I agree about the trick worm, I've gone around the board with trick/ finesse worms of all kinds of brands but I always got bags of trick worms in the stockpile, they just work! and cheap
kushcrumbleshatter1990 hard to deny what works! Thanks bro!
What is a maskitio hook spelled it wrong but never heard of it?
how would you retrieve bigger zoom worms like 12-14in worms
I prefer the watermelon chartreuse trick worm but I agree about it being the best dropshot worm
What is your favorite soft plastic to use with the drop shot? And what soft plastic do you find works best?
I use a speedcraw by Zoom on the Texas rig
would fishing any of these be a problem with a braid main line and a flouro leader?
death pandemic in heavy cover yeah
Love your videos!! Thank you so much. What is the size/length that you recommend for the zoom trick worms??
Great Video and Information! The Delta water temp is down to 47 degrees, do you have any idea where the fish are?
Wil Hilton most are sitting in 6' to 12' faster tapering banks with rock are always much higher percentage. They don't like a lot of current this time of year either so target slower water.
