Yep, and I've seen some people teaching on the Internet and making jokes about other's pronunciation or grammar, which boosts even more that fear. The other thing is I got a C1 in Listening comprehension but a B2 in speaking, and even when I've taken more classes I haven't seen any improvement, I'm convinced, It's not about learning more is about practicing, I don't really need a C1 in speaking and I need is a fluent B2+
I think that this is the absolute best video I have ever seen on learning a new language. I am so inspired and encouraged. Thank you Luca - you are truly a gifted communicator and teacher.

I agree with Luca. I enjoy learning English (and Portuguese) at 59 years old, watching videos of people like you. I don't see it as an effort, but as a pleasure. And, of course, I think your videos are the best.

I enjoyed this conversation because, to begin with, I'm subscribed to these two amazing channels. Next, I love the process and the sensation of learning and understanding a little bit every day about the English language. Finally, I am planning to learn another language using English; I'm thinking about French. Let's enjoy the learning journey.
I'm a native English speaker and I struggle with words, sentences etc. People who want to learn English (you got this), just keep going. I'm learning korean, japanese, Italian. There's a lot more I'm wanting to learn, it's fun.
I'm currently trying to learn Spanish, and I'm going through that struggle of wanting to try to speak more, but my mind goes blank. Other times when I'm to myself I find myself In my head putting together sentences, then checking google translate to see if I'm accurate lol. Some days when I don't feel like reading material in Spanish or learning or have doubts in the back of my mind, videos like this motivates me to keep going, learning from other people's experiences.
Oh, I get that feeling! Trying to speak a new language and your mind just blanks? Happens to the best of us. It's cool you're playing around with sentences and checking them on Google Translate. If we look at the physiology of stress reactions the blood is not flowing as well as when you feel relaxed and calm. In the other words your energy, the emotions you feel meter!

Hi Jennifer, what country did you come from? I hadn’t known the fact that you weren’t a native English speaker until today. You are amazing. Thank you so much for your work that helps others to learn English.
As someone who has learnt 2 foreign languages, I’d suggest a principle that helps me a lot when it comes to stressful real-world interactions. «He/She doesn’t speak my native language at all».
Dude Define fluent !!! Let’s look at it objectively, I have been living in North America my entire adult life. I have been hanging out with the native of the land since ever. Becoming fluent even in one language other than the language u raised up to Is humanly impossible It is a loosing battle Hitting books 24/7 hoping one day you will turn into rather morph into her ( the teacher ) is a fallacy
Fair point! I think it's important to remember that you can't compare how you speak your second language to your native language. Because you will always speak your native language better simply because you've learned it for 10, 15 or 20+ years longer than any additional languages. I'm sure you're doing great though. You certainly write naturally ;)
Speaking of how the brain works, remember one of its main jobs is to make all your behaviors into the most ‘energy efficient’ way possible. That’s why anything you start to learn (physically or intellectually) makes you tired. So you have to push through and your brain says ‘ok if this is gonna keep happening I better get used to it so it doesn’t ‘cost’ as much energy’ Gl everyone! ❤
Regarding the resources to learn a foreign language, English is actually the best one to be learnt because it's easy and there're unlimited resources from dictionaries to websites and TH-cam channels to learn it. And theoretically one can be better even then a native speaker because you can learn vocabularies and expressions that even natives don't know. The only problem is that it is hard to be as fluent as natives when speaking.
Absolutely, English is super accessible with all those resources out there! Sure, sounding like a native is tough, but hey, it’s all about practice and finding your groove.
Learning languages is very much like losing weight. First, there are no secrets. Both take commitment and repeated effort. Second, there is a genetic aspect to both learning and fitness. It is very pronounced in bodyweight and fitness. But there is a great deal of evidence that intelligence is also greatly influenced by genetics. Third, the earlier you start working on both, greatly (And I mean exponentially.) influences the end result. Beginning to properly work on fitness or languages early in life has been irrefutably shown to have a multi fold result in performance and productivity. Fourth, having someone with knowledge and experience in teaching what you want to learn assist you will greatly improve your results. That is why people with financial means have a greater chance of success in either of these two areas. Fifth, effort is the number one factor influencing success. So,no matter what your disadvantages may be, your attitude and motivation are more important than anything else. And lastly, no matter where you are in life, the longer you wait to begin working on any goal, the longer it will be before you see any appreciable progress/results. So moral of the story? Thanks for watching! 😁
