lately i always knew how i wanna start my music, because i'm working on a concept album. the concept forces me to think of the things with a certain goal in mind. but usually i'm making beats like you, just starting with any pleasant sound trying to get somewhere, being guided mostly by my emotions
Good luck, man! I finished my weekly beat challenge in 2024, and I can guarantee it's worth it. It changed my perspective and shaped me in a truly special way.
Nice video. Regarding mixing while producing: I wouldn't worry about doing it - I do some basic mixing just to make samples etc sound the way I want, knowing that I will do a final mix at the end. I think having a "rule" to not do any mixing while producing is counterproductive since EQs / compression can really change the feel of a sound and make you look at the whole track differently. Also something I suggest: try to pitch your drum samples up and down (like a non-destructive pitch without any timestretching) to potentially change the way they sound and fit the key of your chords. I notice for example that your snare could work better if it was a few semitones higher.
good job! I have to go work on mine now...

theres is not everyone in the development and coding crowd could even start a song and more so make this melodic and groovy, cheers!

That's awesome!
Thanks for sharing you process. I find it hard to separate mixing and producing as well - what ever sounds good or whatever the track needs...
Thanks for watching! Good to hear I'm not the only one :)
